Six shaft failures were encountered in a centrifugal water pump, part of the engine cooling system of a container ship. The last two failed pieces were received for analysis. A detailed study was carried out to determine the cause of the component failures. Historical data was collected, visual inspection was performed and a photographic file was created. The pieces were measured in order to record their general features and a 3-D model was generated. Hardness measurements were carried out. Microstructure was examined by means of light microscopy. A finite element simulation was conducted in order to determine the stress topology and to identify possible critical areas. Chemical analysis was carried out. The shafts were manufactured onboard, from AISI 304 stainless steel. The low hardness of both pieces indicates insufficient mechanical properties. Microstructural examination showed characteristic microstructure of coarse austenite. The presence annealing process derived twins and limited grain-boundary carbide precipitates were verified. The shafts failed due to torsional fatigue. Fracture initiated at the keyway on the propeller side as it was predicted from the finite elements analysis. Material selection material has and poor machining were found to be the main cause of failure. Appropriate recommendations were provided.

The article provides an overview of the principle of the pump D630-90, as well as methods for studying the real conditions of technical support to improve maintainability and optimize technological processes and systems. A technological process for the restoration of the shaft of a centrifugal water pump has been developed and an algorithm for managing it has been proposed, on the basis of which the system for energy-efficient management of the recovery area has been implemented. Also in the article some questions of use, metal-filled compound SK812, and also application of ultrasonic processing of a surface of a shaft of the centrifugal water pump of mark D630-90 are mentioned and considered. The developed technological process of pump shaft restoration showed that it is characterized by simplicity, it fits well into the production process of repair and can be widely used in repair shops.

The coolant (water) pump assumes an important role of cooling system in IC engines. With upgrading of the engine power by turbocharging and turbo inter cooling, the water pump capacity needs to be increased corresponding to the power. This capacity enhancement has to be achieved without calling for a major change in the existing water pump, envelop and related fitment details. This requires a clear understanding of centrifugal pump for its performance parameter. One such engine is upgraded by turbocharging from 195PS to 240PS @2200 rpm. Improving water pump flow by changing the impeller dimensions, impeller casing, increase the suction, delivery pipe diameter had been done. Validation of the water pump in its actual engine installation was taken up as a part of the research work. Flow rate comparison of the new pump with the existing pump was made and the results were analyzed. The new water pump gives better flow rates for the engine speeds up to1800 rpm, beyond which the flow rate is slightly lesser than the existing pump.

Pump shafts are generally exposed to the liquid being pumped either on a continual basis or at certain locations along the length of the shaft. The shaft material is austenitic stainless steel, description ASTM AU 79 TY 316. The purpose of this study is to determine the failure of the water pump shaft used in the power plant. Metallography is the study of structure metal shaft can used as a means for CWP metal pelleting (Circulating Water Pump), for the purpose of damaged or deeply degraded areas. SEM test is used to know the beginning of the crack (crack initiation). EDS test is used to chemical composition and Vikers hardness test is also used to know the hardness material. These three tests to support in analyzing the failure of the pump shaft. The conclusion of this failure analysis is the shaft material has porosity. Fatigue cracking comes from the outer surface area.

This research studied the effects of suction heads on the efficiency of a thermal water pump with steam. In order to save energy, the authors also studied the appropriate amount of air added to a steam working fluid. Cooling time was attempted to be shorten, direct contact cooling was employed. The system comprised feed water tank (FT), liquid piston tank (LT), heat tank (HT), storage tank (ST), well tank (WT), and check valve (CV). It was directly cooled by cooling water. Thermal energy input was supplied by an electric heater as a substitute of heat sources such as firewood. An operation of the pump consisted of five stages: heating, pumping, vapor-flow, cooling, and suction. In conclusion, increasing the suction head raised the pumping efficiency until the maximum was achieved. Using air in conjunction with the steam working fluid could lower the working temperature suitable for solar application. In addition, the simulation of a thermal pump with steam was merely presented. A good agreement between the test and the model was found. The larger pump size was selected to be constructed and tested in order to increase the pump efficiency. Agricultural application of the larger pump could obtain energy source from waste of firewood at no cost.

PT Indonesia Power UPJP Perak Grati is the one state-owned enterprice (BUMN) which operates on an electricity power generation so that needed same assistance equipment for manufacturing, a 6 Kv induction motor, need to do a maintenance periodically for keeping the accomplishment. The author wrote te thesis to analize the motor disturbance Close Cycle Cooling Water Pump (CCCWP) #A Steam Turbine in order that there is no the suddenly disturbance in the motor equipment so that make the accomplisment of cooler system steam turbine disturbed. The method which doing the taking same data for motor vibration noise using vibxpert whict can analize the result and taking same data using motor current signature analysis (MCSA) functioned for analyzing the disturbed of the current and voltage. Based on the result, it can be concluded that vibrasi noise increase periodicly from bearing motor  side there is a current data different becaused the outer part motor so that need doing a maintenance strategy so that the equipment remains reliable to operate.
