Impact strength data is a noteworthy factor for designing airport pavements, civilian and military structures etc and it is ought to be modelled precisely. In order to achieve an appropriate modelling data, it is important to select a suitable estimation method. One such commonly used statistical tool is the two parameter Weibull distribution for modelling impact failure strength accurately besides the variations in test results. This study statistically commandsthe variations in the impact failure strength (number of blows to induce failure) of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) subjected to drop hammer test. Subsequently, a four-different novel method for the computation of Weibull parameter (Shape parameter) based on the earlier researchers test results has been proposed. The accuracy of the proposed four novel method is demonstrated by comparing with power density method and verified with goodness of fit test. Finally, the impact failure strength of FRC is offered in terms of reliability. The proposed four NEPFM is very suitable and efficient to compute the shape parameter in impact failure strength applications.

Abstract: The effect of fibre content on the Strength and ductility behaviour of hybrid fibre reinforced concrete (HFRC) beams having different fibre volume fractions was investigated. The parameters of this investigation included service load, ultimate load, service load deflection, ultimate load deflection, crack width, deflection ductility and energy ductility. The fibre volume fraction (Vf) ranged from 0.0 to 2.0 percent. Steel and polyolefin fibres were combined in different proportions and their impact on the above parameters was studied. The ductile response of hybrid fibre reinforced concrete beams was compared with that of control beam. The test results show that addition of 2.0 percent by volume of hybrid fibres improve the strength and ductility appreciably. Empirical expressions for predicting the strength and ductility of hybrid fibre reinforced concrete (HFRC) are proposed based on regression analysis. A close agreement has been obtained between the predicted and experimental results.

Abstract Improvement in fracture behaviour of fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC) due to the inclusion of various types and combinations of fibres is widely reported. The fracture behaviour of FRC needs to be fully understood for the optimum use of these fibres in structural elements. Fracture behaviours of synthetic fibre-reinforced concrete (SynFRC), hybrid fibre-reinforced concrete (HFRC) and steel fibre-reinforced concrete (SFRC) are investigated in this study using digital image correlation (DIC) technique. This work focuses on improvement in the structural performance of FRC through a comprehensive study of the change in the crack length, crack opening and fracture process zone (FPZ) due to different fibres addition and their combinations. Three distinct fibre dosages of 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.00%, of macro-polyolefin fibres, hooked end steel fibres and their hybrid combination are regarded as research parameters. Test outcomes indicate that HFRC offers higher post-cracking resistance when compared to SynFRC. SFRC showcases superior fracture performance than that of HFRC and SynFRC. Full-field strain measurements from DIC are used to measure the crack openings at different load levels during the fracture tests. Results of DIC analysis show good agreement with experimental measurements. Continuous monitoring of strain contours using DIC reveals the effective engagement of fibres along the depth at higher dosages for HFRC when compared to that of SynFRC. Also, HFRC had longer cracks than SFRC at a particular load.

A comprehensive program of experiments consisting of compression, uniaxial compression, direct shear, flexural as well as splitting tensile and air permeability tests were performed to analyse the effect of the level of fibre dosage and the water–cement ratio on the physical properties of hybrid fibre-reinforced concrete (HFRC). Two types of fibres were studied in terms of their effect on the properties of HFRC. The results indicated that the mechanical properties of concrete were significantly improved by increasing the fibre content. However, increasing the percentage fibre content past a certain peak performance limit (0.9% glass fibre (GF) and 0.45% polypropylene fibre (PPF)) led to a decrease in strength compared to reference mixes. Additionally, the incorporation of hybrid fibres yielded an increase in air permeability in the tested specimens. The results showed that the strength-related properties of HFRC were superior to the properties of single fibre-reinforced concrete.
