Various methods of video-enhanced microscopy combine TV cameras with light microscopes creating images with improved resolution, contrast and visibility of fine detail, which can be recorded rapidly and relatively inexpensively. The AVEC (Allen Video-enhanced Contrast) method avoids polarizing rectifiers, since the microscope is operated at retardations of λ/9- λ/4, where no anomaly is seen in the Airy diffraction pattern. The iris diaphram is opened fully to match the numerical aperture of the condenser to that of the objective. Under these conditions, no image can be realized either by eye or photographically. Yet the image becomes visible using the Hamamatsu C-1000-01 binary camera, if the camera control unit is equipped with variable gain control and an offset knob (which sets a clamp voltage of a D.C. restoration circuit). The theoretical basis for these improvements has been described.

AbstractMolecular ballistics combines molecular biological, forensic ballistic, and wound ballistic insights and approaches in the description, collection, objective investigation, and contextualization of the complex patterns of biological evidence that are generated by gunshots at biological targets. Setting out in 2010 with two seminal publications proving the principle that DNA from backspatter collected from inside surfaces of firearms can be retreived and successfully be analyzed, molecular ballistics covered a lot of ground until today. In this review, 10 years later, we begin with a comprehensive description and brief history of the field and lay out its intersections with other forensic disciplines like wound ballistics, forensic molecular biology, blood pattern analysis, and crime scene investigation. In an application guide section, we aim to raise consciousness to backspatter traces and the inside surfaces of firearms as sources of forensic evidence. Covering crime scene practical as well as forensic genetic aspects, we introduce operational requirements and lay out possible procedures, including forensic RNA analysis, when searching for, collecting, analyzing, and contextualizing such trace material. We discuss the intricacies and rationales of ballistic model building, employing different tissue, skin, and bone simulants and the advantages of the “triple-contrast” method in molecular ballistics and give advice on how to stage experimental shootings in molecular ballistic research. Finally, we take a look at future applications and prospects of molecular ballistics.

The influence of the pretreatment polyester short fiber on the mechanical process and the properties of the NR/ SBR compound was studied by using contrast method. The results showed that the maximum power and the unit energy consumption increased because of short fiber, and the temperature also enhanced. So the low rotate speed is better. When the composite were cured, it had much characteristic such as rapid vulcanization speed, short scorch time and vulcanization smooth period. But the mechanical properties were increased. In the end, the microscopic photo of composite with the scanning electronic micrograph was taken.

The combined high and low cycle fatigue (CCF) test on full scale turbine blade in the laboratory is an important method to evaluate the life. In fact, the low cycle fatigue which is usually caused by the centrifugal force can be confirmed easily. While, the high cycle fatigue which is usually caused by the vibration and aerodynamic force is often hard to determine. So the previous scholar has proposed the contrast method to determine the high cycle load in the field. This method utilizes the new and used blades to determine the high cycle within certain limits. While it can’t be applied effectively in the whole life range with the low cycle-high cycle-ultra high cycle fatigue theory raised. So this paper put forward the modified contrast method to realize the optimization. Firstly, the CCF tests are carried out on the turbine blade systematically. Then, the CCF damage properties, including the crack propagation, the fracture morphology and the dynamic characteristic are analyzed. Lastly, the new modified contrast method is proposed with the new coordinate axes, new fitting criterions and amend method. Through comparisons we conclude that: the new method is slightly complicated, but the evaluate precision has significantly increased. So it could be used to deal with data for CCF tests on full scale turbine blade in the future.
