Mexico is a country that requires the construction and expansion of infrastructure to increase the competitiveness of its economy. Building this highly competitive logistic platform has had an impact on Mexico’s cultural and social heritage. In the State of Morelos, the municipalities of Cuernavaca and Jiutepec considered that sustainable development could be integrated with heritage preservation at the time of land use plans’ designing and adoption. Hereby described, a geographic information system-based predictive model, differentiating areas by their potential for different types of resources, is suggested as a solution to protect Mexico’s heritage within a uniform permitting and compliance process.

The article discusses the development of a methodology for creating a geographic information system for the analysis of cycling infrastructure in the city of Novosibirsk. A publicly available GIS for analyzing cycling infrastructure with an up-to-date database should ensure efficient control over the state of the city's cycling infrastructure, its use and development, as well as access to the cycling infrastructure information to all interested citizens with the ability to contribute to its improvement. To im-plement GIS in practice the following basic instruments were used: full-featured software for preparing mapping materials – ArcGis; JavaScript library, intended to display maps on websites – Leaflet. As a result the article represents technological scheme of GIS creation, gives the description of structural content for attributive information, offers the methods for analysis of the condition and development of cycling infrastructure, as well as describes tools for the creation of the interactive map with the help of Leaflet.

Most Brazilian municipalities are small, i.e., with less than 50,000 inhabitants. In the State of Goiás, for example, 91% of the municipalities are small. Of these, only 4% have their municipal solid waste (MSW) disposed in authorized landfills. Thus, the present study aimed to propose a municipal solid waste management facility (MSWMF) shared between two small municipalities of the microregion of Chapada dos Veadeiros, in Northeast Goiás. The reason for selecting this microregion is that it is composed only of small municipalities that use waste dumps for the disposal of their MSW. For this purpose, the areas subject to approval or restricted for the installation of a MSWMF were identified with the aid of a geographic information system (GIS). Also, the host municipality (HM) of the MSWMF proposed for Campos Belos and Monte Alegre de Goiás was defined with the use of mass geometry methodology. According to the results obtained, 59% of the territories of these two municipalities that will integrate the proposed MSWMF are restricted for the installation of landfills, and Monte Alegre de Goiás was selected to host the landfill.

Introduction:The opioid epidemic is overwhelming communities across the United States. West Virginia (WV) has been devastated, heralding a 86% increase in deaths from 2012-2016, and over 1,000 deaths last year as per WV Health Statistics Center. Treatment centers and providers have emerged throughout the state to provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT). The impact of these clinics on the opioid abusing population is not yet fully understood.Aim:Utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS), a comparison of MAT provider locations versus regions of historical overdoses can indicate areas of deficiency. If no providers emerge in underserved counties, overdose deaths in those areas will continue to rise. Methods:Maps were created using current DEA-X licenses in WV registered through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAHMSA). Overdose death rates were taken from WV Public Health Records from 2010-2017. Two maps and corresponding data were compared for overlap or lack thereof. Results:Of the 338 locations of DEA-X licenses registered, 17.5% are in Cabell County, which led the state in overdose deaths in 2017. Only 2.5% of the total providers are currently in Wayne County, which had the second highest overdose death rate. Berkeley County, which was 3rd highest, has a mere 6.5% of total providers. Comparatively, Kanawah County, home to the state’s capital, has over twice this number of providers despite consistently having at or below the state average of overdose rates. Resources are pulled towards population-dense areas or university centers, where the epidemic is present but misses counties with higher overdose rates.Discussion:Results show a lack of MAT providers in many of WV’s devastated counties. Treatment centers exist throughout the state but are concentrated in regions with large cities or academic centers. This distribution limits accessibility to a marginalized patient population, making improvements unlikely in WV’s future opioid-overdose death rates.

Although geographic information system–based studies are particularly increasing in other sectors, few have embraced their full potential in health services allocation in Malaysia. This study aimed to produce a visual map on the distribution of smoking cessation clinics (SCCs) in Malaysia and analyze its pattern against the national population of smokers. SCC addresses were obtained from the government website and mapped using geographic information system tools. A total of 199 and 449 private and public SCCs was mapped throughout the country, respectively. The lowest SCC to smoker population ratio was in the state of Negeri Sembilan with 1:3000. The highest SCC to smoker population ratio was in Sabah with 1 SCC for 15 000 smokers. Almost 70% of SCCs were primary health clinics. Smoking cessation clinics were distributed throughout all the states in Malaysia except the state of Sabah.
