Abstract We study the SL(2) transformation properties of spherically symmetric perturbations of the Bertotti-Robinson universe and identify an invariant μ that characterizes the backreaction of these linear solutions. The only backreaction allowed by Birkhoff’s theorem is one that destroys the AdS2× S2 boundary and builds the exterior of an asymptotically flat Reissner-Nordström black hole with $$ Q=M\sqrt{1-\mu /4} $$ Q = M 1 − μ / 4 . We call such backreaction with boundary condition change an anabasis. We show that the addition of linear anabasis perturbations to Bertotti-Robinson may be thought of as a boundary condition that defines a connected AdS2×S2. The connected AdS2 is a nearly-AdS2 with its SL(2) broken appropriately for it to maintain connection to the asymptotically flat region of Reissner-Nordström. We perform a backreaction calculation with matter in the connected AdS2× S2 and show that it correctly captures the dynamics of the asymptotically flat black hole.

The paper deals with mathematical modelling and computer simulation of a gearbox driving system with a double stage gearbox. Mathematical modelling and computer simulations are used for supporting diagnostic inference. Vibration is thought of as a signal of gear condition. It is stressed that vibration generated by gears is influenced by many factors. These factors are divided into four groups: design, production technology, operational, condition change. The condition change of a gearbox is given by gear faults that are divided into single faults such as a tooth crack or breakage or distributed faults as pitting, scuffing, and erosion. The faults are modelled in the case of a crack as a change of tooth stiffness in the case of distributed faults they are given multi-parameter functions. Simulated signals undergo signal analysis by spectrum, cepstrum, time-frequency spectrogram. It has been shown by computer simulation that single and distributed faults are identified by cepstrum. For explicit fault identification time-frequency spectrogram has to be additionally used. The computer simulation results are confirmed by analysis of measured vibration signals received from a gearbox wall/housing. The aim of mathematical modelling and computer simulation, besides finding the relationship between gear condition and vibration signal is in the future to give vibration signals for neural network training.

The South Asia high (SAH) is a prominent circulation system of the Asian summer monsoon, exerting profound influences on the weather and climate in China and surrounding regions. Its formation and maintenance is closely associated with strong summertime continental heating in the form of surface sensible heat flux and the latent heat release in connection with the Asian monsoon. In this study, the possible response of the South Asian high intensity to the thermal condition change in the Tibetan Plateau is examined with four modern reanalysis datasets, including the Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA), MERRA version 2 (MERRA-2), the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) interim reanalysis (ERA-Interim), and the Japanese 55-year Reanalysis (JRA-55). Despite the surface air warming in the four modern reanalysis datasets, reduced surface wind speed in three of the reanalysis datasets, and decreased surface sensible heat flux in the MERRA-2 dataset, there is no statistically significant trend in the SAH intensity over the period 1979–2015. One of the possible reasons is that the response of the upper-level circulation to the thermal condition change of the Tibetan Plateau occurs mainly in the 200-hPa subtropical westerly jet stream, which is located far away from the center of the South Asian high. Thus the South Asian high intensity is not particularly sensitive to the thermal condition change of the Tibetan Plateau, while the center of the South Asian high intensity over the plateau exhibits a northward trend over the period.
