In order to investigate the design method of single tapping screw connections between steel plate and non-steel plate and the applicability of calculating the shear capacity of single tapping screw connections with sheet steel under 2mm according to Chinese code Technical code for design of cold-formed thin-wall steel structures(GB50018-2002),theoretical analysis was carried out on single tapping screw connections, which were distinguished by connection forms called steel plate-steel plate connections and steel plate-non-steel plate connections. The results show that: Chinese code GB50018-2002 is suited to calculate the shear capacity of single tapping screw connections with sheet steel under 2mm and the results are safe compared with test results. The design method of single tapping screw connections between steel plate and non-steel plate is given on the basis of test results.

AbstractAn intensive site investigation consisting of electric cone penetration tests, vane tests, Delft sampling and thin wall sampling holes has been carried out in soft alluvial soils in the Humberside area. This programme facilitated a correlation to be made between static cone end resistance with the undrained shear strengths obtained from the vane testing and laboratory test results. A discussion is presented on the various cone correlation factors (Nk) obtained and these results are compared to the cone factors established by others in similar soil conditions elsewhere.

For further study of mechanical properties of concrete-filled steel box columns (CFSBCs) with longitudinal stiffeners, axially loading tests of CFSBCs with longitudinal stiffeners was conducted to obtain their ultimate bearing capacity and failure modes. The test results were compared with those of hollow steel box columns with longitudinal stiffeners. Cross section of the test specimen was scaled from a chord member of Dongjiang Bridge. The experimental results show that failure mode of CFSBCs with longitudinal stiffeners is local buckling of steel plates, which is different from that of concrete-filled thin wall steel tube columns with longitudinal stiffeners. Although longitudinal stiffeners can prevent global buckling of steel plates, the effect is less obvious than that of concrete-filled thin wall steel tube columns. Meanwhile, three-dimensional finite element models (FEM) of the specimens were modeled using computer program ANSYS to obtain bearing capacities and load-strain curves. The FEM results coincide quite well with the test results. Further, influence of width to thickness ratio on mechanical behavior of CFSBCs was analyzed using FEM.

Combining with productive practice, production of intermediate castings in high-strength turbochargers under the condition of intermediate frequency furnaces is analysed in this paper. By adopting measures of compound inoculation and increasing Sulfur, 95% type A graphite and high-strength intermediate castings whose tensile strength is 300 MPa are acquired. Furthermore, moderate amounts of S and Mn as well as CE values are determined according to test results. As for thin-wall gray cast iron with high strength and complicate structure, whenwSis low andwCis high, castings with good graphite form can be produced. But it is not stable and the strength is low. Adding inoculants like Calballoy and Si-Ca-Ba can significantly improve the graphite form on the edge of thin-walls. WhenwCis stabilized at about 4.1, stable and continuous production of high strength gray cast iron with good graphite form can be guaranteed by adding sulfur and controlling the amount of Mn. The proportion of A type graphite and that of pearlite are both more than 90%.When high-strength gray cast iron is produced in intermediate frequency furnaces,wSshould be controlled between 0.1% and 0.12% andwMnshould be controlled between 0.5% and 0.55%.

Technical Code for Design of Cold-formed Thin-wall Steel Structures mainly provides single-limb and lattice sections of axially-loaded members of cold-formed thin-walled steel, and there is no related design method for compound section. In this paper, combined the relevant test datas, the load-carrying performance of short axially-loaded column with gusset plate between double cold-formed C steel were analyzed through effective width method from code and DSM. By comparing the computing results with test results, it indicates that the computing results of DSM are more consistent with the test datas. As a result, I come up with suggestion formulas of effective width method which are applied to short axially-loaded column with gusset plate between double cold-formed thin-walled C steel.

This paper provides an overview of the use of pullout testing to determine the optimum parameters for assuring reliable tube to tubesheet joints in condensers and heat exchangers. The test is described with typical test methods, equipment and test precautions. Numerous examples of data from a variety of units, tube materials, and tubesheet materials are presented. Also included are unique tests which were performed to qualify the tube expansion procedures prior to use in nuclear facilities. These tests include mockups for pneumatic and helium leak testing, and hydrostatic testing of mockups with rolled test joints at over 600 psi. Examples will include testing with 3 roll expanders compared to 5-roll expanders in heavy gauge titanium tubes, test results with a double tubesheet arrangement, and high strength joints with thin wall titanium tubes in brass tubesheets. An example comparing the pullout forces determined with a HEI beam strip analysis to the actual pullout test data is also discussed.

The stability bearing capacity of cold-formed lipped channel columns under axial compression is presented. It is shown that DSM is valid for prediction the stability capacity of cold-formed lipped channel columns under axial compression. The results calculated by suggested method agree quite well with the effective width method in Technical code of cold-formed thin-wall steel structures (GB50018-2002) and the test results are safe.
