In the fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) unit of oil refinery, the attrition resistance of FCC catalysts is affected by particle shape. Although some sophisticated methods, such as Fractal dimension and Fourier analysis, have been introduced to particle shape analysis, most of them are used to assess the shape of individual particle. It is difficult to be used as a means of powder quality control in the course of application and production of FCC catalysts. So three shape factors, i.e. Short/long ratio (S), Roundness (R) and Concavity (C), are applied to characterize them in three different aspects.A small quantity of FCC catalyst powders were spread on a glass slide M and a thin layer of glue was spread on another glass slide N, then all the particles on slide M were sprinkled on slide N by vibrating manually up and down, in the meantime moving back and forth more than 10 times.

Physicochemical properties of commercial medical CO2 sorbents Amsorb Plus, Draeger 800, Draeger free, Loflosorb, Sodasorb, Sofnolime, Spherasorb, Ventisorb, as well as of the Russian adsorbent HPI were studied to determine the chemical compositions, textural characteristics, effective protection time with respect to CO2; crushing and attrition resistance of granular sorbents were measured using the SHELL SMS-1471 and ASTM D 4058 96 procedures. The best performance (a high CO2 capacitance, strength) was observed with Draeger 800. The obtained data on operating properties of commercial sorbents and recommendations can be useful for medicine, rescue works, as well as for scientific and production activities when cleaning air mixtures from carbon dioxide is necessary.

Tween 60 and Tween 80 as dispersant had been adding in the preparation process to increase the surface area of VPO catalysts. XRD、 XPS and TEM characterization tests show that the crystalline phase and the catalyst surface area of adding surfactant Tween 60 and Tween 80 are different from that did not. Although the two types of crystalline phase are to (VO)2P2O7but their microscopic structures are different and found that the surface area of the former is 35-40m2/ g, while the surface area without adding surfactants is only 19m2/ g.

Four VPO catalysts were synthesized through intercalation and exfoliation in various alcohols and subsequent reduction of the exfoliated VOPO4sheets with various alcohols to produce VOHPO4⋅0.5H2O. The resulting VOHPO4⋅0.5H2O that undergoes the intercalation-exfoliation-reduction (IER) process will be further activated into VPO catalysts, and addition of 1 mole % Bi(NO3)3⋅5H2O in the first stage of this experiment has also being investigated. The synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) in H2. Catalytic evaluation of the IER-treated and Bi-doped VPO catalysts was also studied on microreactor. The VPO catalyst produced through IER using 2-butanol and ethanol with addition of Bi, IERC(2Bu-Et)RBi1, gave the highest MA selectivity due to reactive O2−species released from the additional crystalline V5+phase formed by doping 1% bismuth as promoter (O2−-V5+pair) at relative lower temperature. Nevertheless, the VPO catalyst produced through IER using isobutanol, IERC(isoBu), gave the highest activity due to high amount of reactive O−species released from V4+phase (O−-V4+pair) whereby the IERC(isoBu) catalyst synthesized consists of high percentage of V4+(93 %).
