Paper defects mean that there are some defects in the paper such as hole, emboss, and fold during the paper production, which mainly results from the limitation of technological level. In the past time, artificial visual inspection and off-line checking were often used to detect the paper defects. However, its shortcoming was highlighted along with the improvement of industrial technology level and increasing demand for paper. In order to realize the online detection and markers for paper defects, the project designs the on-line detection system based on line-scan digital camera. Firstly, the principle and detection scheme of the system for the paper defects was presented. Then the overall structure of the system was designed. After that, the hardware circuit of the system was designed using TMS320F2812 as main control chip. It mainly consists of the function of each module and the working process of the system. Finally, the software of the image acquisition system was presented. With the experimental verification, the system has advantages of low cost, high efficiency and strong resistance to interference. The functions and indexes achieved the design requirements.

Water quality monitoring plays an important role in contamination control and environment protection. This paper describes an on-line multiparametric water quality monitoring system based on visible spectrophotometry, which combines embedded technology with GPRS telecommunication technology. This system can realize online wireless monitoring to concentrations of chromium (Cr), plumbum (Pb), A surfactant (AS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), ammonia nitrogen (AN), total phosphorus (TP) and total phenol (TPh) in real time. The mechanical structure, hardware circuit and software design of the system are completed. The absorption spectrums of pure water and MB-SDS complex have been measured. Preliminary experiments using a model machine show that each mechanism of the system runs well. Moreover, the monitor possesses many advantages, such as high degree of automation, high reliability, high efficiency, compact structure, small size, and so on.

Recently, cutting has replaced grinding in the finish processing of hardened steel. However, tool damage is a major problem in high-efficiency operations that use high-speed cutting and high feed rate conditions instead of the present cutting conditions. Therefore, the examination of a new cutting technique that can realize high-efficiency cutting is desired. In this study, the effects and efficiency of driven rotary cutting are investigated in the finish turning of carburized hardened steel. Based on the results, flaking occurs at the cutting edge at a short cutting length of 0.2 km using single-point turning. On the other hand, even if the cutting length amounts to 1.5 km, the tool wear width without flaking is small in the case of a driven rotary tool. Additionally, the tool wear is uniformly distributed along the circumference of the cutting edge. Furthermore, based on an examination of high-efficiency processing by increasing the feed rate, it is clarified that a feed rate of 0.3 mm/rev is the optimum condition from the viewpoint of wear resistance and surface roughness. Additionally, even if the cutting length amounts to 5.0 km for this condition, the flank wear width is as small as 0.04 mm, and the tool wear progresses gradually.
