Four fit young men participating in a high altitude mountaineering expedition took part in a 15-day trial of two high-calorie dietary supplements. They ate either a high carbohydrate or a high fat supplement, alternating every 3 days. All dietary intake was recorded. Subjects completed a daily questionnaire assessing the severity of symptoms. Within a single-subject design no statistically significant differences were obtained between the severity of symptoms and dietary carbohydrate or total calories. This suggested that the dietary supplements had no effect on symptoms, a finding that is discrepant with the existing literature. However, we did find that subjects consumed more calories while on the high carbohydrate supplement.

This study compared two high carbohydrate (CHO) diets in 14 male runners for effects on muscle glycogen deposition, endurance, and sensations of gastrointestinal discomfort. Muscle glycogen was measured in the vastus lateralis at rest and run time to exhaustion at 75 % VO2max was measured following 3-1/2 days on a 50% CHO diet. After 14 days the subjects consumed a 20% CHO diet and continued training to reduce glycogen. During the next 3-1/2 days, subjects ran less and consumed a 90% CHO diet emphasizing pasta and rice (Pasta, n=7) or lesser amounts of pasta and rice supplemented by a maltodextrin beverage (Supplement, n=7). Glycogen was again measured, followed by a second run to exhaustion. Compared to the 50% CHO diet, Pasta increased muscle glycogen by 27.1 ± 12.2 mmoles/kg muscle (M±SE; p < 0.05) and run time by 15.7±5.9 min; Supplement increased glycogen by 43.2 ± 13.5 mmoles/kg (p < 0.05) and run time by 29.0 ± 7.4 min (p < 0.05). Total glycogen concentrations and run times were not significantly different for Pasta versus Supplement. Subjects reported less gastrointestinal discomfort and greater overall preference for Supplement than for Pasta. Thus, glycogen loading can be accomplished at least as effectively and more comfortably by substituting a maltodextrin drink for some of the pasta and rice in a glycogen loading diet.

Background: A long-standing association exists between elevated triglyceride levels and coronary heart disease (CHD). High consumption of fat and carbohydrate influences enhancement of triglycerides level. Sport can reduce cholesterol and triglycerides level. Objective: This research aims to analyze relationship between carbohydrates and fat intakes with triglycerides level on female aerobic gymnasts. Method: This is an observational research using cross sectional research design which was held in Miracle Gymnasium on February17- 18th 2017. 30 subjects were selected as subject because fulfill the requirement (older than 20 years and have willingness to be a subjects). Research variable areintakes of carbohydrate, fat, and triglyceride levels. Result: Result shows 53.3% subjects have high level of carbohydrate and fat intakes followed by 20% subjects with high level of triglycerides. Subjects with high level of carbohydrate, fat intakes and high triglyceride level are 28%. Subjects withsufficient carbohydrate, fat intakes and high triglyceride level are 12.5%.Fisher’s exact test was done to prove hypothesis with results there is no significant relationship between carbohydrate and fat intake with triglyceride level. Conclusions: Subjects with high carbohydrate and fat intake is 53.3% and 20% subjects have high triglyceride level. Relationship between carbohydrate and fat intake with triglyceride level on female aerobic gymnasts is not significant (p>0.05). Keywords: Intake, Carbohydrate, Fat, Aerobic Gymnasts, Triglyceride

Wheat is an alternative food product that contains high carbohydrate, which is currently consumed by many Indonesian people in order to substitute their staple food of rice. However, Indonesia must import large amount of this product, and during the last decade the imported volume has dramatically increased. In 2008 the imported wheat reached 4.9 million tons. Since 2001, Indonesian Government has developed domestic wheat agribusiness which aimed to establish industrial villages of domestic wheat production. However, due to some obstacles, the program is not successful yet. Therefore, it is needed to study the competitive position of wheat agribusiness in Indonesia. The study’s objectives are (1) to portrait the current domestic wheat agribusiness in Indonesia, (2) to analyze the domestic wheat competitive position, and (3) to formulate strategy for developing domestic wheat agribusiness in Indonesia as an effort to fulfill some part of domestic wheat demand and to build industrial villages of wheat production. The study was conducted in 2009. Data have been analyzed by using the frame of Porter’s Diamond Theory in order to find out the competitive position of Indonesian domestic wheat agribusiness. Afterwards, SWOT analysis is used to investigate internal strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats of Indonesian wheat agribusiness in order to formulate the developing strategies. Finally, the approach of strategic architecture is used to arrange the formulated strategies where it can be easier to get the picture. The conclusion of Porter’s Diamond analysis showed that each subsystems of domestic wheat agribusiness in Indonesia still do not support one to another, therefore, its competitiveness becomes weak. In order to strengthen its competitiveness, domestic wheat agribusiness needs to be developed more properly by paying attention to development strategies which have been consciously formulated and put in mapping of strategic architecture.

Introduction. Lead pollution is a common environmental problem. Having no physiological functions, this toxicant has a negative polytropic impact on a body, including neurotoxic, reproductive, and transgenerational effects. The mechanism of lead toxicity is oxidative stress. Flavonoids have active antioxidant properties. They are widely represented in plant foods, are able to restore protective capabilities of cells and have chelating properties with respect to lead. One of the representatives of this group of substances is dihydroquercetin. The objective was to study the effect of dihydroquercetin on behavior of rats with hereditary chemical body burden exposed to lead at 60 mg/kg during 25 days. Materials and methods. We studied the behavior of rat offspring in an open field and established their blood lead levels by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry. For statistical processing the U-Mann – Whitney test was used. Results. In the present experiment, the effect of lead on the offspring of male albino rats exposed to 60 mg/kg of lead for 25 days caused changes in the activity of animals in the open field. The severity of changes was more pronounced in animals with a hereditary chemical body burden. These animals showed a decrease in orientation and physical activity and increased anxiety. In rats with a hereditary burden, changes in behavior were detected when administering dihydroquercetin. The activity of animals demonstrated a positive dynamics: we observed a statistically significant increase in physical activity and orientation. The number and duration of behavioral acts approached control values. Conclusions. The revealed effects of lead on the offspring of albino rats with a transgenerational chemical body burden require further study to understand the mechanism of the phenomenon.
