GaN nanoparticles were prepared via microwave-assisted synthesis in ionic liquids. They are well-crystallized (β-GaN) and nanosized (3–8 nm), exhibit a band gap of 3.9 eV, and show green emission with a remarkable quantum yield of 55%.
