AbstractThe study aimed to assess baseline stress and coping mechanisms among caregivers of children with RASopathies (i.e., cardiofaciocutaneous and Costello's syndrome) and the impact of attending biennial caregiver conferences. Caregivers completed the Perceived Stress Scale, Coping Health Inventory for Parents, and demographic surveys prior to family conferences, and 1- and 6-month postconferences. Baseline stress was increased and associated with child age, parental age, and number of conferences attended. After 1 month, caregiver stress was lowered among men and caregivers attending ≥2 support conferences.

Background: While everyone can be affected by stress, there is evidence to suggest that students might be more prone.Objective: To assess perceived stress levels and well-being among undergraduate pharmacy students’ of Ahmadu Bello University, in addition to identifying common stressors and coping mechanisms used by the students.Methods: A survey was conducted on second to fifth year undergraduate pharmacy students of the institution from August to November 2019. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data about the students’ socio-demographic characteristics, stress levels (Perceived Stress Scale-10), well-being (World Health Organization-5 well-being index), stressors and coping strategies. Student t-tests, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson’s bivariate correlation were used to compare means and correlations between variables. P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Results: Of the 350-questionnaire distributed, 328 were returned producing a 93.7% response rate. Majority of respondents were males (63.1%), and in their third year of study (29.3%). The mean PSS-10 score was 18.4 ± 4.9, and a statistically significant difference in scores were seen across gender (p= 0.001). Over half of the participants (72.8%) also scored 51% or higher on the WHO-5 index. Their most common stressors were volume of course materials 184 (56.1%) and financial constraints 158 (48.2%) respectively. More than half of respondents (64.5%) also sought for emotional support from their families to cope with stress. A statistically significant (p<0.001) negative weak correlation (-0.3) was seen when PSS-10 and WHO-5 scores were compared.Conclusion: Perceived stress levels in female undergraduate pharmacy students were higher than those in their male counterparts, and most of the students had at least good well-being.

Background: Every person experiences different forms of stress throughout their life. Therefore a student nurse is no exception as they have to adjust to an entirely new environment on joining nursing. Stress in nursing students is an area of growing concern. The stress among the students can have serious effects on their health and studies. It may affect in psychological distress, physical complains, behavior problems and poor academic performance.Objective : The main objective of this study was to assess the level of stress and coping mechanisms among nursing students.Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was done among 283 nursing students of Manmohan Memorial Institiute of Health Sciences (MMIHS), by using purposive sampling technique. The level of stress was assessed using Perceived stress scale-14 (PSS-14) and coping mechanism was assessed using Brief cope inventory. The data analysis was done using SPSS version 20.  Descriptive and inferential statistics was used and Chi-square test was applied for association.Result: The results were found that 61.5% of the respondents have moderate stress and 27.9% of the respondents have severe stress and mild stress only by 10.6%.Likewise 44.5% of the respondents were very often stressed due to test, examination and evaluations where as half of the majority of respondents were some time deal with dying or seriously ill patient.  Similarly 58.3% used Emotion-focused strategies for coping mechanism and 3.9% of the respondents used Problem-focused strategies for coping mechanism.Conclusion: Majority of the nursing students were found to have moderate stress. Perceived stress scale was found to be statistically significant with age, educational status of the respondents, education of father and mother. The aim of this study was to examine the role of attachment style, self-concept, and coping strategies, in order to explain the differences in perceived stress factors and stress symptoms, in a mediation model. Participants were 515 university students (302 female and 213 male) aged 17-28 years. The assessment instruments were: Social Comparison Scale, Ways of Coping Scale, Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-II, Brief Symptom Inventory and University Students Stress Factors Scale. The results indicated that the effect of anxious attachment on perceived stress factors and stress symptoms was partially mediated by self-concept and coping styles. Our findings revealed that the level of anxious attachment is an important factor to explain perceived stress and stress-related variables.

Objective: New coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic socioeconomically affected the world. In this study, we measured the perceived stress in response to the COVID-19 pandemic among Iranians to determine the groups at both extremes of the spectrum followed by identifying the stressors and coping mechanisms. Methods: This study was a mixed-methods study. We distributed a web-based 10-item perceived stress scale (PSS-10), to measure perceived stress score (PSS), through social networks from March 12 to 23, 2020. Then, we interviewed 42 students, 31 homemakers, 27 healthcare providers, and 21 male participants to identify the sources of stress and coping mechanisms. Results: Finally, 13,454 participants completed the questionnaires. The median and interquartile range (IQR) of the participants’ PSS was 21 (15-25). Students, homemakers, and healthcare workers (HCWs) showed a higher median (IQR) of PSS compared to other groups (23 [18 to 27], 22 [16 to 26], and 19 [14 to 24], respectively). Male participants showed a lower median (IQR) PSS (17 [12 to 23]). Content analysis of 121 participants’ answers showed that the most common stressors were school-related issues mentioned by students, family-related issues mentioned by homemakers, and COVID-19-related issues mentioned by healthcare providers. Male participants’ coping mechanisms were mostly related to the perception of their abilities to cope with the current crisis. Conclusion: Our participants clinically showed a moderate level of PSS. The main stressors among students, homemakers, and HCWs were related to their principal role in this period, and male participants’ coping mechanisms were inspired by the self-image retrieved from the social perspectives.
