Resistance of the Hungarian pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivar "Gre.ygo" to Tohamoviruses has been investigated. All plants of the population of Greygo proved to be resistant to tobacco mosaic and tomato mosaic viruses (TMV, ToMV), both represent the pepper pathotypes Po of Tohamoviruses. Individuals of Greygo, however, were found to be susceptible to pathotypes P12 and P123 of pepper mild mottle virus (PMMV). When inoculated with the XM isolate of dulcamara yellow fleck virus (DYFV, pathotype P1) the population of Greygo segregated in resistant and susceptible plants. These results as well as inoculations of the progenies of three TMV resistant plants clearly showed, that besides the resistance allele Li the cultivar Greygo possesses also an another allele. This allele, provisionally marked by L2g behaves like to the allele L2 characteristic to Capsicum frutescens cv. . Tabasco. Determination of the identity of the allele L2g to the allele L2 needs further genetic and pathological informations. Relations between the Tohamoviruses pathogenic to pepper and the alleles of the resistance gene L are outlined for the discussion.

The Abundance and Diversity of Thrips (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) on Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) and Cayenne (Capsicum frutescens L.) in Bogor. This research aimed to study the abundance and diversity of thrips on chili pepper and cayenne pepper plants. Observation of thrips was conducted on chili pepper and cayenne pepper in fourteen sites in four different locations in Bogor that are: Dramaga, Cibungbulang, Tenjolaya, and Cisarua. Thrips were collected from leaves and flowers from 10 plant samples that had been selected randomly. The thrips were identified and the number of thrips were calculated. The abundance of adults, nymphs, and total of thrips on the flowers of chili pepper was 0.39, 0.01, and 0.40 thrips/flower respectively. Meanwhile, the abundance of adults, nymphs, and total of thrips on the flowers of cayenne pepper was 0.36, 0.02, and 0.38 thrips/flower respectively. The abundance of adults, nymphs, and total of thrips on the leaves of chili pepper was 0.68, 0.12, and 0.81 thrips/twiq respectively. Meanwhile, the abundance of adults, nymphs, and total of thrips on the leaves of cayenne pepper was 0.47, 0.14, and 0.61 thrips/twiq respectively. Four species of thrips were found infesting flowers of chili pepper and cayenne pepper i. e. Thrips parvispinus, T. hawaiiensis, Scirtothrips dorsalis, and Haplothrips gowdeyi.  Species of T. parvispinus, T. hawaiiensis, S. dorsalis belong to suborder of Terebrantia family Thripidae, meanwhile H. gowdeyi belongs to suborder Tubulifera family Phlaeothripidae. T. parvispinus is the most dominant species found infesting flowers and leaves of the chilli pepper and cayenne pepper were 71% and 56 %.

A study on the “Phenetic analysis of Capsicum annuum L. and Capsicum frutescens L. “ has been conducted from June to August 2012. The aim of the research is to know the relationship amoung big chillis and small chillis based on morphology. The samples were taken from 5 villages in Sukamantri Sub-district, Ciamis. The method used in this research was explorative survey with purposive random sampling. The character data of big chili and small chili morphologies were analyzed descriptively to determine the relationship using UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Mean Arithmetic) methods. The result of this study showed that there were seven cultivars of big chilli, namely C. annuum „Hot Chili‟, Gada, Fantastik, Keriting TM 888, Tanjung 2, Keriting TM 999, Hot Beauty, and four cultivars of small chilli namely C. frutescens „Cakra Ungu‟, Cakra Hijau, Bendot, and Cakra Putih. The fenogram showed that there were five groups, two groups of C. annuum and three groups of C. frutescens. The first group consisted of C. annuum „Hot Chili‟, Keriting TM 888, Fantastik, and Tanjung 2. The second group consisted of C. annuum „Gada‟, Hot Beauty, and Keriting TM 999. The third group was C. frutescens „Bendot‟. The fourth group consisted of C. frutescens „Cakra Putih‟, and C. frutescens „Cakra Hijau‟. The fifth group was C. frutescens „Ungu‟. The closest relationship was between C. annuum „Keriting TM 999‟ and C. annuum „Hot Beauty‟ and the farthest relationship was between C. frutescens „Bendot‟ and C. frutescens „Ungu‟.

Androgenesis in vitro is a basic method of obtaining haploid plants and DH (doubled haploid) lines of major crops such as potato, rapeseed, tomato, pepper, wheat, maize, and barley, and also many different minor crops and species with lower agricultural impact. Diploid plants appearing among androgenic regenerants are the effect of spontaneous doubling of the chromosome number in haploid cells during an embryo’s early developmental stages and are valuable fully homozygous breeding material. The subject of the presented research is spontaneous diploidization occurring in the development of androgenic, haploid pepper regenerants. In the presented experiment, the formation of diploid seeds was observed in the progeny of an androgenic, haploid plant derived in an anther culture of a hybrid (Capsicum annuum L. ATZ × Capsicum annuum L. `Corno di toro`)F2. Agromorphological and molecular analyses concerned eight diploid plants being progeny of the anther-derived haploid regenerant. Five of the plants constituted a phenotypically balanced group with valuable agromorphological features. Their genetic homogeneity was confirmed using 10 RAPD markers and 16 ISSR markers. Based on the results, it was concluded that anther-derived haploid plants of Capsicum can be the source of diploid, apomictic seeds, and the obtained offspring may constitute genetically stable, valuable breeding material.

ABSTRACTCrop production can not be separated from the management provided, such as cultivation techniques in determining of water requirements. Water availability determines the success of crop production, either vegetative or generative because water is a basic need for plants. This study was conducted from March to June 2016 in a greenhouse of Cikabayan Experimental Station, Bogor Agricultural University. It consisted of 2 sets of experiment. The first experiment used a red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) and second experiment used a cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). Each experiment was arranged in a single factor randomized block design (RBD) with irrigation level treatment (V) consisted of 5 levels, i.e. v1 = 1 kc.Eo, v2 = 2 kc.Eo, v3 = 3 kc.Eo, v4 = 4 kc.Eo, and v5 = 5 kc.Eo. kc is a plant coefficient and Eo is pan evaporation measured every two days before irrigation. The results showed that the response of red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) and cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) on growth and production parameters were linear. The water requirement of red pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) and cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) was still higher than the highest irrigation level of treatment given in this experiment i.e. 5 kc.Eo.Keywords: evapotranspiration, irrigation, number of flowers, plant coefficient, plant heightABSTRAKKeberhasilan tanaman untuk berproduksi secara maksimal tidak terlepas dari pengelolaan yang diberikan seperti teknik budidaya dalam penetapan jumlah air yang dibutuhkan.
