The anaerobic selector of the A/0™ process offers many advantages over conventional activated sludge processes with respect to process performance and operational stability. This high-rate, single-sludge process has been successfully demonstrated in full-scale operations for biological phosphorus removal and total nitrogen control in addition to BOD and TSS removal. This process can be easily utilized in upgrading existing treatment plants to meet stringent discharge limitations and to provide capacity expansion. Upgrades of two full-scale installations are described and performance data from the two facilities are presented.

PANI was prepared in-house, characterized and utilized in the sorption of calcium, magnesium, iron, and copper in aqueous solution. The objective of this research was to evaluate adsorption of metals in mono and multi-metal in aqueous solutions onto PANI. Literature has it that, there is no record for competitive sorption of metals by PANI. The characterization of the prepared PANI confirmed with other literature that it was the Emeraldine PANI that was prepared. The results obtained after the multi metal adsorption experiment showed that PANI has a good performance in the removal of copper, iron, calcium, and magnesium, and can be credited to its' large surface area since it is a nanomaterial. Testing for the selectivity showed that the prepared nanoPANI adsorbed 95.2% of lead, 93.8% of copper and 75.8% of the iron in the single metal system.

The aim of the present work is to obtain iron-oxide coated porous ceramics filter (IOCPCF) via dip-coating and test its adsorption and degradation for methylene blue (MB). Porous ceramics filter (PCF) and ferric nitrate were used as substrate and modifier respectively. IOCPCF was characterized by spectrophotometer, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, specific analyzer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The effect of its structure and performance on adsorption and degradation of MB aqueous solution was investigated. The results indicated that the average pore diameter, specific surface area and porosity of IOCPCF were 11.36 nm, 4.987 m2/g and 58.63% respectively. The major crystalline phase of iron coat was α-Fe2O3 which took on porous framework. Using the prepared material, the decoloration conversion for MB aqueous solution can reach 72.06% in 300min and be increased by 21.59% compared with original PCF.

Based on polycarboxylate chemistry, polycarboxylate superplasticizers (PCs) with hydrophobic side chains were synthesized through radical copolymerization reaction. The molecular weight and polydispersity index were analyzed by gel permeation chromatograph (GPC), and the results showed the same structural information. The performances of PCs in cement paste were tested by measuring the fluidity and fluidity retention. The slump and the compressive strengths of concrete were also determined. Additionally, the foaming behavior of PCs was investigated by the foam volume, the surface tension of PCs aqueous solution,and the air content of concrete. According to the data, the hydrophobic side chains of PCs may affect the hydration reaction of cement resulting in better workability.
