Depending on its initial texture and external strain condition differences in deformation mechanisms, kinetics of dynamic recrystallization or even superplastic behaviors may emerge in magnesium alloys leading to distinct microstructure and texture evolutions. When imposed strain condition is altered, e.g. from plane strain compression to rolling or uniaxial compression, the deformation anisotropy will decrease in different rates and basal slip and {1012} twinning will dominate deformation process. This work examines this strain sensibility by inspecting the σ-ε curves, microstructures and textures in a quasi plane-strain compressed ZK60 alloy and compares the results with those of AZ31 alloy compressed in channel die.

The hot-rolled and extruded AZ31 specimens are subjected to tensile tests at room and elevated temperatures. At room temperature, the yield stress of the hot-rolled specimen is significantly higher than that of the extruded, the reason for which is related to the different textures developed in the two type specimens, as well as the different slip systems activated. At elevated temperatures, the strain rate sensitivity and the activation energy are obtained to characterize the deformation mechanism of the alloy during the temperature range of 423~573K.

The deformation behavior of 1565ch alloy under the plane-strain conditions in the temperature range of 350–490 оС and strain rates range of 0,1–10 s-1 is studied. The expression for steady flow stress as the functions of temperature of deformation and strain rate is obtained. It is established that 1565ch alloy with zirconium addition shows higher strain resistance and less tendency to dynamic and static recrystallization than AMg6.

In this research, the effect of cold rolling, annealing time and temperature on microstructure and hardness were studied in L-605 superalloy. A cast bar of L-605 alloy was hot rolled at 1200ºC. As the following, it was solutionized at 1230 ºC for 1 hour and finally was cold rolled by different amounts (i.e. 5-35 percent thickness reduction). The cold-rolled samples were heat treated for different times (i.e. 2-120 min.) at temperature range of 1068-1230 ºC in order to study their recrystallization behavior. The results of microstructural analysis indicated that static recrystallization is responsible for microstructural refinement and coarsening, so that an increase in the amounts of cold rolling resulted in a fully recrystallized microstructure at lower temperature. This analysis also indicated that annealing temperature is more effective than annealing time in grain growth. Microstructural evaluation as well as showed that carbides such as M7C3 and M23C6 which have been reported in some literature were not observed during rolling or annealing in this research. It is perhaps due to usage of high annealing temperatures or possibly due to their very low contents which was not possible for us to evaluate their formation with conventional methods. Hardness results revealed that higher annealing temperature lead to lower hardness values as expected.
