Family nursing, based on the Calgary Family and Intervention Models, was implemented in a German oncological inpatient unit to promote effective family functioning in the context of cancer care. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of implementing family nursing care on several psychological and physical outcomes of patients and their family members. A quasi-experimental study with 214 patients with a cancer diagnosis and 122 family members was conducted. Findings indicate that the superiority of family nursing, when compared to traditional care, could not be confirmed with respect to patients’ outcomes (psychological burden, social support, satisfaction with care) and family members’ outcomes (psychological burden, physical complaints, satisfaction with care). Various factors, such as country-specific structures and challenges in implementing family nursing care on an inpatient unit, may have contributed to these findings. Further replication attempts in similar settings in other countries are needed to shed light on the factors impairing or promoting the implementation of family nursing in practice settings.

Background: United Nations (2015) projected that the numbers of older persons (60+) grow from 901 million to 1.4 billion by 2030 and reach 2.1 billion in 2050 (WHO). Help Age India reported that the elderly population will reach to 143 million by 2021. Kerala has highest percentage of elderly almost 12.6 per cent of the population (Ministry of statics, 2016). Today’s changed work-life, youngster’s attitude, family and social structures, emigration of young family members has resulted in exclusion and emotional deprivation among the elderly forced to lead a lonely life. The survey was an attempt to investigate the Expatriate Keralite Individual attitude on their post retirement time planning. Materials and methods: A quasi-experimental study was used to assess the attitudes of post retirement time plans among the 20 selected expatriate Keralite by using interview technique. Result: Only 35% of the sample feels that it is necessary to plan for our retirement period. Half of the sample works for private firms and there is no security for them once they leave their job. Even though there is a need for planning their post retirement period they have not even think about it because they perceived that their family members feel sad to hear that they are coming back because they are only the source of income for their dependents. Ninety percentage of the sample did not realized that they have completed almost half part of their life and it is time for them to think wisely to plan ahead for their time left out to live. Conclusion: Majority had not even started to think on about changes in life styles, activities and relationships. They need to be counseled to plan their time in post-retirement by time calculator and Middle age is the correct period to start planning what he or she will do in their second half of life.

Almost all the Pediatric surgeons and most of pediatric anesthetists are adheredto traditional paed’s solution against recommendations due to fear of hypoglycaemia and notbeing aware of hyponatremia. Objective: To compare the effects of balanced salt solutionwith1% dextrose and Pead’s solution on blood glucose and sodium levels in pediatric surgicalpatients intra operatively. Study Design: Interventional quasi experimental study. Setting:Department of Anesthesia, Intensive care and pain medicine in Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan (Pakistan). Period: December 2014 to February 2015. Methodology:60 patients were enrolled and divided into equal groups named after their respective iv fluidsi.e.‘Pead’s Solution’ & ‘RLD1’. Patients aged between 1 month and 08 years, without genderdiscrimination, with ASA 1,2 , fasted according to ASA guidelines undergoing elective surgicalprocedure general anesthesia were included in this study. Blood sampling for levels of serumsodium and glucose was done pre-operatively and 01 hour post-operatively. Results: Inimmediate post-operative period incidence of hyperglycemia was statistically higher in ‘Pead’sSolution’ group (93.3%;28/30) vs ‘RLD1’ group(10%;3/30) p=0.000. Relative risk was 9.3 in‘Pead’s Solution’ compared with ‘RLD1’ solution. Hyponatremia was statistically higher in‘Pead’s Solution’ group (56.6%; 17/30) than in‘RLD1’ group (16.6%;5/30) p=0.001. Relative riskwas 3.4 in ‘Pead’s Solution’ compared with ‘RLD1’ solution. Hypoglycemia and hypernatremiawere not found in any patient in either group. Conclusion: Our results reflected that ‘RLD1’isa better option than ‘Pead’s Solution’ as it is less likely to cause hyponatremia and doesnotcause hypoglycemia. However a large number of clinical trials in almost every teaching hospitalare required to convince pediatric surgeons and anesthetists to use evidence based solutions.

Background: One of the main stressors for patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) is being away from family members and severe appointment time limits. Currently, the treatment environment is made of family members and patients, and the presence of family members plays an important role in the patient’s health. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of scheduled family appointments on the agitation of ICU patients. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 70 patients admitted to the ICU of medical centers affiliated to Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 2020. The patients were selected using convenience sampling from among those who met the inclusion criteria. The selected patients were randomly assigned into two equal groups of control and intervention (n = 35 in each). The patients in the control group were visited via routine appointments. In contrast, the patients in the intervention group were visited both routinely and via scheduled appointments by a fixed member of the family for 20 minutes at 10-12 AM and 8-10 PM for three days. The data were collected using a demographic information form and Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS), which was completed by the researcher for each patient on the first day before and the third day after the intervention. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS software (version 24) with the chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, independent samples t-test, and Mann–Whitney U test. The significance level was considered less than 0.05. Results: The two groups were similar in terms of age, sex, level of consciousness, and history of hospitalization in the ICU and there was no statistically significant intergroup difference (P > 0.05). According to the results of Mann–Whitney U and chi-square tests, there was a significant difference between the groups in terms of agitation at the end of the study (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Scheduled appointments for ICU patients can reduce patients’ agitation without affecting nurses’ care activities. This accelerates the recovery process for patients. Hence, the appointment-based policy needs to be implemented in ICUs.

The aims of this study were: (1) to identify an increase in students' understanding of the value of mutual cooperation through the use of reader response rules in Indonesian Language Learning (KRPDPBI); (2) identifying the use of the reader response principle in Indonesian Language learning (KRPDPBI) there are differences between male and female students. The design of this study used a quasi-experimental study with two different methods. The results showed that (1) the achievement of the score of understanding the value of mutual cooperation for students taught by KRPDPBI was better than for students taught by regular learning according to the curriculum; (2) the achievement of the understanding of the value of male students' mutual cooperation is no better than that of female students.
