Soluble carbohydrates, particularly oligosaccharides, can take pan in defense responses preventing and restricting fungal pathogen invasion. Morphological changes were observed and ß-glucosidase activity was studied in yellow lupin embryo-axes infected and uninfected with F.oxysporum and cultured for 24 to 96 hours under conditions of a varying carbohydrate supply. The first disease symtoms - necrotic pathological changes were observed 48 hours after the inoculation. A higher intensity of the disease changes as well as growth restriction were found in 72- and 96-h embryo axes growing under carbohydrate deficiency. The activity of â-glucosidase increased during 24 - 96 hours after inoculation. An especially high increase of the activity was noted in 72- and 96-h embryo axes cultured under carbohydrate deficiency. We suggest that sugars are involved in the mechanisms of yellow lupin embryo axis tissues resistance, since they constitute the source of precursors for the synthesis of antimicrobial factors of plant defense response.

The paper investigates technological parameters of the quality of low-alkaloid lupin of five cultivars selected and grown in the Republic of Belarus during the years from 2007 to 2017. Prospects for the use of the obtained seeds have been studied. This study reveals great influence of cultivar and climatic conditions during growth of lupin seeds on correlation of anatomic parts in seeds as well as on their physical properties. Cultivar of lupin seeds Jan is recommended for whole grain flour and graded flour production based on its anatomic composition, uniformity and physical properties. A comparative analysis of chemical composition, quality parameters and technological properties of lupin flour has been done. The chemical composition of lupin flour, of whole grain lupin flour, in particular, has been found to be relatively low in starch, high in protein, food fibers, minerals and organic acids. As a result, whole grain lupin flour has been proved to have higher food value when compared to traditional wheat flour. This paper demonstrates the difference between lupin flour characteristics and those of wheat flour in terms of color, acidity, enzymatic activity and adsorbing properties. This study reveals the possibility of use of lupin flour in bakery products by substituting traditional types of flour with lupin flour at 10-30% levels, as well as by replacing egg products with lupin flour at 25-50% levels. The work highlights the use of lupin flour at the stages of dough kneading, dough preparation, foam and emulsion production mainly by using rapid dough making methods.Practical applicationsRecommendations have been made on the usage of lupin flour in the technological process of bakery products manufacturing, macaroni and flour confectionery products production.

In vitro regeneration of pea (Pisum sativum L.), a regeneration recalcitrant legume, was optimised using thidiazuron. Buds were initiated from the meristems of the cotyledonary nodes of embryo axes, isolated from mature seeds, and subcultured on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 13.3 μM 6-benzylaminopurine, 16.1 μM α-naphthaleneacetic acid, and 0.2 μM 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid. Proliferation of buds was preceded by the formation of white nodular-like protrusions. These structures were cut transversally in fine slices and subcultured on the same medium or in presence of thidiazuron that produces a second wave of secondary budding. The best results (90–110 buds per expiant) were obtained with 10 μM thidiazuron. The capacity of regeneration was genotype independent and reproducible. Buds elongated on the initial medium, then formed roots in presence of 5.37 μM α-naphthaleneacetic acid. and developed into viable plants. Key words: Pisum sativum L., regeneration, meristems, embryo axes, thidiazuron.

Two experiments were conducted with fatteners (♀ (Landrace × Yorkshire) × ♂ duroc), 50 animals each (10 pigs per group). The fatteners from the control group (C) were administered feed mixtures with genetically modified soybean meal (SBM-GM) used as the only protein source; whereas these from experimental groups (E1–E4) received feed mixtures in which the SBM-GM was replaced with increasing amounts of raw seeds of pea (Experiment I) or blue lupin (Experiment II): E1—5.0%, E2—10.0%, E3—15.0%, and E4—17.5%. Once the fattening period was completed, production results were determined, and selected blood serum indices were assayed to establish the effect of the nutritional factor on body homeostasis and health status of the animals. Pigs from all groups revealed a similar growth rate and meatiness (p > 0.05). In Experiment I serum analyses showed lower (p < 0.001) concentrations of: cholesterol in E1, E3 and E4; creatinine in E1 and E4 and urea in E3 and E4, compared to the C. In Experiment II, lower (p < 0.001) concentrations of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine-aminotransferase, total protein, and Mg were determined in the serum of fatteners from E1–E4 compared to the C. Even though values of all analyzed blood markers differed among the groups, in most cases they fitted within reference values for the species, which indicates the maintenance of body homeostasis. Study results show that there are no contraindications to the use of pea and blue lupin seeds as alternative feed materials to SBM-GM in pig fattening.
