The thermal-diffusion and diffusion-thermo effects on heat and mass transfer by magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection stagnation-point flow of a power-law non-Newtonian fluid towards a stretching surface in the presence of a magnetic field, thermal radiation and homogenous chemical reaction effects have been studied. A suitable set of dimensionless variables is used and similar equations governing the problem are obtained. The resulting equations have the property that they reduce to various special cases previously considered in the literature. An adequate implicit tri-diagonal finite-difference scheme is employed for the numerical solution of the obtained equations. Various comparisons with previously published work are performed and the results are found to be in excellent agreement. Representative results for the velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles as well as the local skin-friction coefficient, the local Nusselt number and the local Sherwood number illustrating the influence of the magnetic parameter, power-law fluid index, mixed convection parameter, concentration to thermal buoyancy ratio, thermal radiation, chemical reaction, and Dufour and Soret numbers are presented and discussed.

AbstractAn analytical study is presented for the problem of unsteady hydromagnetic heat and mass transfer for a micropolar fluid bounded by semi-infinite vertical permeable plate in the presence of first-order chemical reaction, thermal radiation and heat absorption. A uniform magnetic field acts perpendicularly to the porous surface which absorbs the micropolar fluid with a time-dependent suction velocity. The basic partial differential equations are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which are solved analytically using perturbation technique. Numerical calculations for the analytical expressions are carried out and the results are shown graphically. The effects of the various dimensionless parameters related to the problem on the velocity, angular velocity, temperature and concentration fields are discussed in detail.

This paper deals with the study of  nonlinear MHD flow, with heat and mass transfer characteristics of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conducting and Boussinesq fluid on a vertical stretching surface with thermal stratification and chemical reaction by taking in to account the viscous dissipation effects. Adopting the similarity transformation, governing nonlinear partial differential equations of the problem are transformed to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The Quasi-linearization technique is used for the non-linear momentum equation and then the numerical solution of the problem is derived using implicit finite difference technique, for different values of the dimensionless parameters. The numerical values obtained for velocity profiles, temperature profiles and concentration profiles are represent graphically in figures.  The results obtained show that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the presence of viscous dissipation, thermal stratification, chemical reaction and magnetic field.DOI: 10.3329/jname.v7i1.3254
