In this research, the effects of science education using mobile augmented reality (MAR) application on students’ attitudes toward science, technology, and their academic achievement were determined against two socioeconomic levels. The parallel pattern mixed method was used in the study. The research was carried out with 143 sixth-grade students from two schools with different socioeconomic levels in Turkey. The MAR application was used with the experimental groups. Quantitative data were collected through the “Science and Technology Attitude Scale” and “Systems Achievement Test.” According to the ANCOVA results, it was observed that the MAR application used in the processing of the lessons was effective in improving the academic achievement levels of the students but not in attitudes toward science and technology. Results showed that the socioeconomic situation played an active role on the academic achievement of students but did not play an effective role on science and technology attitudes. The results of this research are important in determining the differences between students at different socioeconomic levels experiencing technology-supported systems.

It should be noted that learning outcomes are not students’ only achievement; attitude is also the main output in learning. This research explores students’ attitudes toward science learning based on gender and the grade level of schools in Aceh, Indonesia. The participants are 1,023 students from the sixth grade of primary schools and the eighth grade of secondary schools. The total sample includes 16 schools spread across the province. The data have been collected using TOSRA. By using the Likert scale, this questionnaire is useful for obtaining descriptions of the students’ attitudes and assigning scores for a certain group of participants. Based on gender, the results show females reflect more positive attitudes toward science than male students do. According to the grade level of the schools, the data reflect the equality of students’ attitudes toward science between primary and secondary schools. Nevertheless, when primary school students enter secondary school, the majority of students enjoy learning science less. This fact is meaningful feedback for science teachers. This result supports the scholars seeking ways to avoid the gender gap in learning activities. Pedagogical implications are also discussed.

The aim of this study was to determine whether or not animation applications affect student achievement in science and technology course. For this purpose, effect of constructive approach supported by animations in the instruction of the unit “Living Organisms and Energy” to the 8th grade students on their academic achievement was investigated. This unit was taught to the experimental group using a constructivist approach supported by animations and to the control group using a constructivist approach without animations. For data collection, an achievement was developed and administered to experimental and control groups as pre-tests and post-tests. Collected data was analyzed using t-test and MANOVA. As a result of the research, it was revealed that supporting the constructivist approach with animations was more effective in increasing academic achievement. In the relevant literature, it is often debated whether learning programming requires high-level thinking skills, the lack of which consequently results in the failure of students in programming. The complex nature of programming and individual differences, including study approaches, thinking styles, and the focus of supervision, all have an effect on students’ achievement in programming. How students learn programming and the relationships between their study approaches and their achievement in programming have not yet been adequately illuminated. In this regard, the present study aims to investigate the effect of the study approach used on students’ attitudes toward programming and on their academic achievement within an online problem-based learning environment. In this study, a single-factor, pretest posttest single group and semiempirical method was utilized. The study was conducted on 41 students from a public university in Turkey. To implement problem-based learning activities, a teaching environment was created with the Moodle platform, allowing for group work and discussions. Seven status of the problems were prepared exclusively for the 12-week application period so that students could make suggestions about how to solve them. In the data collection phase, the Study Approach Scale, the Attitude Towards Programming Scale, and the Academic Achievement Test were employed. T-test and covariance analyses were carried out in the statistical analysis phase. According to the findings of the present study, students adopting the “deep” study approach were more successful than the students adopting a “superficial” approach. Moreover, it was determined that the problem-based learning application had a positive effect on students’ attitudes toward programming and that the study approach did not significantly affect the students’ attitude toward programming.

This study added to existing data on home school effectiveness by comparing the academic achievement of 66 home school students with 66 of their grade-level peers in traditional public schools. The two groups of students were matched on gender, race, and grade level and were administered the Woodcock-Johnson Psychoeducational Battery III. No significant difference in overall academic achievement was found between the groups. Both home school and public school students had average or above average scores in reading, math, written language, and broad knowledge (science, social studies, and humanities). The results further revealed a downward trend in math, reading and broad knowledge scores with increasing grade level. This trend suggests that home school and public school students experience a “developmental mismatch” between the changes that occur in adolescence and their school/home experiences, resulting in lower motivation, confidence, and academic performance.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to know effectiveness and effect of flash based interactive multimedia (FBIM) and 5E model toward students attitudes toward science. Experimental research desain was pretest-postest non-equivalent control group and faktorial 2 x 2. The population consist of 196 students spread in 7 classes. These classes are grade VIII in SMPN6 Mataram.
