The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the preliminary results of a school-based oral health educational strategy adopted in public primary schools from the city of Maringa, State of Parana, Brazil. The study sample was composed by 556 children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years old, 124 schoolteachers and a group of 55 mothers. The educational approach was implemented for 18 months and consisted of reinforcements of interventions addressed to students and schoolteachers at school level and few activities targeted at the mothers, performed by means of home visits. Baseline and follow-up interviews focused on oral health care were undertaken for the entire study population. As a stimulus for the students to achieve proper oral hygiene habits, the simplified oral hygiene index was assessed at three different moments. A statistically significant improvement in their oral hygiene index (p<0.001) was recorded. The results achieved suggest an encouraging tendency towards the improvement in the levels of oral health care among the school-age youths studied. They also point out the need of intensifying the preparation of schoolteachers in oral health topics, as well the instructions to the mothers for their oral health care. Moreover, they highlight the importance of the continuous implementation of school-based programs to promote the oral health.

This study aims to determine the use of a PMRI (Realistic Mathematics Education Indonesia) on mathematics learning can enhance students' understanding of the sum of fractions in grade V SDN 28 Kota Parepare. This study uses kualitiatif approach, this type of research is action research class that is located in SDN 28 Kota Parepare. Site selection based on the consideration of researchers looked at the implementation of a realistic approach to learning mathematics in primary schools has not been applied. TOD study procedures that (1) Perrencanaan, (2) Implementation, (3) observation, (4) reflection. Data collection techniques used in this study include (1) observation, (2) documentation, (3) interviews, (4) tests. Data analysis is an effort to improve student learning outcomes with the implementation of realistic mathematics approach. The results on initial tests showed that students' ability to understand the subject matter is still lacking in that category, after learning showed a significant increase with the evaluation results on the cycle I was on a qualifying well (B), continued research on the cycle II because researchers are not satisfied with the results obtained in cycle I, the evaluation results on the second cycle showed a significant increase in the category of very good results. This shows that the application of realistic mathematics approach can improve learning outcomes of students in the SDN 28 Kota Parepare.

Numeracy is one of the essential competencies that the objectives of teaching math to primary students should be towards. However, many research findings show that the problem of “innumeracy” frequently exists at primary schools. That means children still do not feel at home in the world of numbers and operations. Therefore, the paper aims to apply the realistic mathematics education (RME) approach to tackling the problem of innumeracy, in the case of teaching the multiplication of two natural numbers to primary students. We conducted a pedagogical experiment with 46 grade 2 students who have not studied the multiplication yet. The pedagogical experiment lasted in six lessons, included seven activities and nine worksheets which are designed according to fundamental principles of RME by researchers. This is mainly a qualitative study. Based on data obtained from classroom observations and students’ response on worksheets, under the perspective of RME, the article pointed out how mathematization processes took place throughout students' activities, their attitudes towards math learning, and their learning outcomes. The study results found that students were more interested in math learning and understood the concepts of multiplication of two natural numbers.

This study aims to develop a local instruction theory (LIT) based on realistic mathematics education (RME) that is valid, practical, and effective on the topic of multiplication in grade III of elementary school. The research method used is research design type Gravemeijer & Cobb (2013). The research was conducted in three phases, namely preparing for the experiment, experimenting in the classroom, and conducting retrospective analysis. Data was collected using document analysis, observation, interviews, field notes, tests, and questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the research that has been carried out, LIT is produced which is valid, practical, and effective against students' mathematical problem solving abilities. Students can find a standard multiplication algorithm with a series of activities, namely finding the product of multiplication with repeated additions, ten multiplications, multiples of multiples of ten, and standard multiplication algorithms. Keywords: LIT, RME, multiplication

The balance between cognitive and mathematical affective abilities is very important to be mastered by students in order to face future challenges. Background of the research is based on the students’ low ability of mathematical problem solving and mathematical learning activeness. The purpose of this research is finding the relation between students’ mathematical problem-solving ability and students’ mathematical learning activeness by using Realistic Mathematics Education approach using GeoGebra. The method in this research is the experimental research in the form of pre-test-post-test Control Group Design. In addition, the population for this research is the entire Public middle schools (SMP Negeri) in West Bandung regency. From all public middle schools in West Bandung, a school named SMP Negeri 3 Batujajar is randomly selected, and two classes of the 1st-gradestudents of the school are selected as the research sampling data. The first class becomes an experimental class which gains learning using GeoGebra assisted realistic mathematics educational approach and the other class gets common learning. The result of the research shows that there is a more positive relationship between mathematical problem-solving ability and mathematical learning activeness of learning by using Realistic Mathematics Education approach with GeoGebra rather than using common learning. In addition, the approach gives positive impacts, such as more interactive learning, understanding concepts, and more meaningful learning.

Abstract Issue/Problem In Serbia, 12,8% of younger adults and 16,5% of sixteen years old adolescents have tried some of the illegal drugs. “Creative workshop with schoolchildren on prevention of drug abuse” program was developed as a part of National strategy against drug abuse, aiming to improve capacities of teachers and children in primary schools. Description of the practice Program based on educational approach “Shared learning in action” changes traditional school roles, transforming teachers into facilitators, allowing full expression of children’s ideas, thus enhancing development of their emotional intelligence. Children’s research about drugs mobilizes an extensive list of supporters in gathering relevant information: health workers, police, psychologists, teachers, parents and media. This information is then shaped into a variety of products with strong public health messages: songs, posters, comics, brochures, short plays and videos. Results Since 2010, around 450 teachers and nearly 7000 children in 115 Belgrade primary schools were included. Children’s knowledge about drugs has an upturn of over 50%, concurrently with improvement of their teamwork skills, self-confidence, research and creative potentials. Both teachers’ and children’s evaluation grades show a high level of satisfaction with the program. Lessons This program is an example of cooperation between educational and health sector, followed by a well implemented monitoring system and quality improvement. Its universal and flexible approach made it a part of official curricula in several schools. It was acknowledged as good practice by the Institute for improvement of education in 2012 and The City of Belgrade in 2018. Since 2014, the program has its Facebook page “Tvoje znanje menja sve”. Key messages High grade of children autonomy, supported by teachers and community, makes the learning process amusing and effective. Program achievements demonstrate its potential for systemic implementation to a wide range of public health topics.
