Due to the increasing temperature in water injection system, scales are sediments that are firmly attached on the metal surface in the industrial equipment. These scales, including calcium and ferric oxide precipitations, can cause heat transfer problems. A non-phosphorus water treatment agent APES/AA/AMPS was synthesized by acrylic acid (AA), ammonium allylpolyethoxy sulphate (APES) and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) with the solution of ammonium persulfate as an initiator. The properties of scale inhibition and dispersion of water treatment agent APES/AA/AMPS were studied by using the commonly used standard test methods. The results showed that APES/AA/AMPS had excellent scale inhibition and dispersion performance. The performance of APES/AA/AMPS on strontium sulfate was 93.3% at the dosage of 9 mg·L−1. When the concentration was 4 mg·L−1, the dispersion of iron oxide was optimal according to the solution transmittance of 13.7%. The morphology and crystallinity changes of strontium sulfate in scanning electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction showed that the mechanism of the inhibition on strontium sulfate is adsorption.

A new non-phosphorus composite water treatment agent m (PASP) : m (PESA) : m (HPMA) : m (BTA) = 8:12:10:5 was developed from polyaspartic acid (PASP), polyepoxysuccinic acid (PESA), hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride (HPMA) and benzotriazole (BTA). The performance of corrosion and scale inhibition were evaluated by rotary hanging-piece, electrochemical and bubble experiments. The corrosion testing piece was characterized by SEM. The results show that the new environment-friendly composite water treatment agent has good performance of corrosion and scale inhibition. Further dynamic simulated test also indicates that the water treatment agent meet the use demand of circulating cooling water.

The primary method used for boiler water treatment is the addition of chemicals to industrial boilers to prevent corrosion and scaling. The static scale inhibition method was used to evaluate the scale inhibition performance of 1-hydroxyethylidene-1, 1-diphosphonic acid (HEDP). Autoclave static experiments were used to study the corrosion inhibition properties of the main material for industrial boilers (20# carbon steel) with an HEDP additive in the industrial boiler water medium. The electrochemical behavior of HEDP on carbon steel corrosion control was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and Tafel polarization techniques. Experimental results indicate that HEDP can have a good scale inhibition effect when added at a quantity of 5 to 7 mg/L at a test temperature of not more than 100 °C. To achieve a high scale inhibition rate, the HEDP dosage must be increased when the test temperature exceeds 100 °C. Electrochemical and autoclave static experimental results suggest that HEDP has a good corrosion inhibition effect on 20# carbon steel at a concentration of 25 mg/L. HEDP is an excellent water treatment agent.

The synergistic scale inhibition effect of rare-earth permanent magnetic material and polyaspartic acid is studied. The performance of synergistic scale inhibition is studied in different magnetic field intensity, water hardness and rate of concentration. Static and dynamic scale inhibition tests show that the two water treatment ways have good synergistic scale inhibition effect. The scale inhibition performance of polyaspartic acid can be increased greatly by the magnetization of water.

Physical polarization Water Treatment (PPWT) is a new technology that takes advantage of polarization electric field polarizing water molecules to achieve the purpose of scale inhibition and dissolution as well as killing bacteria and algae. The PPWT device made by Shandong Langkun Energy Conservation & Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd and running in the biomass power plant of Shandong Kaitai Group Co. achieved the effects of scale inhibition and solution which are even more superior to the traditional method of chemical dosing. It brings annual water conservation of 147600 m3 and economic benefits of hundreds of thousands to millions for forsaking chemical dosing for a 15MW power unit. Therefore, Considerable economic and social benefits and the goals required by the state to the enterprises of energy saving, emission reduction and environmental protection are achieved.
