Photoactive degradation of textile malachite green (MG), methylene blue (MB) dyes has been permeated on metal oxide TiO2 nanoparticles under sunlight. Semiconductor photocatalysis is a promising method for removal of toxic chemicals from wastewater produced by industry. Due to tunable bandgap, TiO2 among various semiconductor studied mostly. Large band gap (UV active) and recombination of exciton in TiO2 less active in photo degradation. Noble metals such as gold nanoparticles deposited on TiO2 surface increased the optical activity and to shift optical response to visible region. Degradation detail has been carried out by characterisation such as XRD, UV-Vis, PL, TEM, and SEM for MG and MB textile dyes under sunlight irradiation. UV-visible absorption spectra and PL spectra shows that photo-response of as prepared sample is extended from UV to visible region. PL intensity decreases with increases in concentration of Au nanoparticles, decreases in intensity in optical spectra of Au–TiO2 composites shows that charge transfer process dominates. Au–TiO2 plays an essential role in enhancing photocatalytical activity. Decolorization optimization depends on catalyst concentration, Dye concentration, light intensity and, irradiation time.

In this paper, the structural and photochemical properties of a monolithic photochemical diode are discussed. The present structure is composed, from the top to the bottom, of a TiO2 nanowire layer, a TiO2 film, a Ti foil, and a porous layer made of Pt nanoparticles. The synthesis of the nanowires was simply carried out by Au-catalysed-assisted process; the effects of the annealing temperature and time were deeply investigated. Morphological and structural characterizations were performed by scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The analyses showed the rutile structure of the TiO2 nanowires. The photocatalytic properties were studied through the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under UV light irradiation. The nanowires induced an enhancement of the photo-degradation rate, compared to TiO2 in a bulk form, due to an increase in the surface area. Moreover, the presence of a nano-porous Pt layer deposited on the rear side of the samples provided a further increase in the MB degradation rate, related to the scavenging effect of Pt nanoparticles. The overall increment of the photo-activity, due to the nano-structuration of the TiO2 and to the presence of the Pt layer, resulted a factor 7, compared to the bulk reference. In addition, photovoltage measurements allowed to assess the effects of TiO2 nano-structuration and Pt nanoparticles on the electron accumulation.

The high energy radiation overcome the bonding of solute in a solution and H2O2 acts as an oxidizing agent and generates a free radical in the solution which results in photo-degradation by converting the solute in to simple form and resultantly, colored substance under the effect of photo-degradation becomes colorless. The photo-degradation of monoazo dye Blue 13 in an aqueous solution was investigated using a laboratory scale UV lamp in the presence of H2O2 and for maximum degradation of dye, the independent parameter UV power, UV exposure time, pH and H2O2 concentration were optimized. It was found that neither UV in the presence of H2O2 is able to degrade Blue 13 under optimum condition. The results revealed that the use of both UV and H2O2 have pronounced effect on the discoloration of dyes which could be used for management of textile effluents contain waste dyes.

Objective: ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized using wet impregnation method, and activated carbon from rice straw (RS) prepared through chemical route. Methods: The nano-composites ZnO-AC series were prepared with different ZnO:AC ratio of 10, 20, 50, and 70% to optimize the zinc oxide nanoparticles used. The obtained composites were characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, SBET, and optical techniques then used for the photo-degradation of Malachite green dye (MG) under visible light. Results: It was found that 10ZnO-AC exhibited excellent visible light photo-catalytic performance. The ·OH radicals’ formation is matching with photo-activity of the prepared composites. The photo-degradation efficiency of MG increased from 63% to 93%, when the 10ZnO-AC photocatalyst amount was increased from 0.5 to 6 g/L. Conclusion: The GC-MS technique was used to analyze the intermediates formed; up to 15 kinds of chemicals were identified as the degradation products.
