Space cannot be separated from human life, both psychologically emotional (perception) and dimensional. Humans are moving and living, thinking, and also creating space to express the shape of their world and formed when people react to the environment in giving meaning to their environment. It can be said that environmental evaluation, furthermore, is a response to the overall influence of a detailed analysis of specific aspects, and more of a compared to the manifest function and is strongly influenced by images. This paper explains the results of the study, which intends to find out student perceptions of the meaning of space in the Architectural building of the Faculty of Engineering, University of North Sumatra. The study uses data analysis methods. The results of the study show that students' perceptions of space use are not by the allocation of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, University of North Sumatra, because it is influenced by culture, space settings, and accessibility. The benefits of this study as a reference to the Department of Architecture of the University of North Sumatra to be able to improve the quality of teaching and to learn in supporting the comfort of student learning.

This study discusses whether the reference service owned by the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Library can be used as a representation of other college libraries. This representation can be seen based on user perception in the University of Indonesia Library of the reference service and also seen from the strategy undertaken by the University of Indonesia Library in improving the quality of their reference service. This research is a qualitative research using case study method. The results of this study indicate that the reference service Library University of Indonesia can be used as a representation of the library of universities, because the University of Indonesia Library managed to make their reference services become more active and more innovative by bringing various innovations in it to get closer to the user. In addition, users also express their opinions regarding reference services in the University of Indonesia Library, this will further strengthen the purpose of this research is a reference service as a representation of the University of Indonesia Library. It is expected that with the innovation made by UI Library to its reference service will make the reference service become the representation of the library itself especially from the user side, because the representation of the reference service is very important to realize the main purpose of university in Indonesia known as Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi is education, research and community service.

This article develops the concept of ‘surveillance technicity’ – drawn out of a reading of the notion of ‘surveillance capitalism’ alongside Stiegler’s account of mediated (temporal) perception – to think about how modern software interfaces capture and circulate data to do with user activity in order to condition user perception and behaviour in commercially desirable ways. In this article, I focus on an original case study of data analytics tools in videogames. I concentrate on the case of DotaPlus, an analytics tool for the popular multiplayer game Dota 2, arguing that positive gameplay experiences – or affective states – are shaped through the capture and relay of different forms of player data, yielded through various modes of surveillance. To think through the different temporalising effects of DotaPlus, and the mediation of different kinds of affective states, this article focuses on three distinct sites of surveillance: (1) self-surveillance, (2) lateral surveillance and (3) machine surveillance.

Abstract The EBD-SIM (evidence-based design, simulation) framework is a conceptual framework developed to integrate the use of lighting simulation in the EBD process to provide a holistic performance evaluation method. A real-time case study, executed in a fully operational office building, is used to demonstrate the framework’s performance. The case study focused on visual comfort analysis. The objective is to demonstrate the applicability of the developed EBD-SIM framework using correlations between current visual comfort metrics and actual human perception as evaluation criteria. The data were collected via simulation for visual comfort analysis and via questionnaires for instantaneous and annual visual comfort perception. The study showed that for user perception, the most crucial factor for visual comfort is the amount of light on a task area, and simple metrics such as Eh-room and Eh-task had a higher correlation with perceived visual comfort than complex performance metrics such as Daylight Autonomy (DA). To improve the design process, the study suggests that, among other things, post-occupancy evaluations (POEs) should be conducted more frequently to obtain better insight into user perception of daylight and subsequently use new evidence to further improve the design of the EBD-SIM model.

This paper describes a web-based Decision Agent (DA) that provides a customer-oriented approach for selecting products in online orders. The proposed approach is focused on enhancing the front-end of company's business portal by segmenting prospective online customers and directing them to use decision modules that improve user perception in terms of effort, accuracy, and acceptance. The user's Consistency Ratio (CR) in evaluating the attributes of online products is used to categorize prospected users and to direct them to proceed with one of three decision modules, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique (SMART), and Direct Scaling Method (DSM). The proposed approach is applied to an online cellular phone selection case study. Experimental results showed the fit of assigned decision modules to customer classes where users made smart phone selections with less effort and higher reported convenience and satisfaction. The approach can be tailored for other online products and can be integrated into the websites of producers and online stores in a wide range of business applications.

This study aims to investigate the impacts of perception of infrastructure, sociodemographic characteristics, frequency of road use, and road user perception on safety, comfort, and chaos with respect to shared spaces. The case study area was the Via Maqueda, a shared street in Palermo, Italy. A face-to-face survey was conducted and the answers of 200 of the participants, who use three active travel modes, namely, walking, cycling, and micromobility, were analysed. The results obtained from the ordered logit models suggest that one-unit higher perception of infrastructure will increase safety and comfort perceptions for both walking and cycling. Females feel less safe while walking and less comfortable while cycling at shared spaces compared to males. Increasing the age group by one unit will decrease the safety and comfort perceptions for walking. The participants who use the shared spaces more frequently perceive that they feel more comfortable with cycling. Participants, particularly males, find the shared spaces less chaotic for walking when the perception of infrastructure is higher. Regarding the micromobility use at shared spaces, females feel less comfortable compared to males while using micromobility.
