This study aims to investigate the influence of inclination angle and concentration of nanoparticles on the improvement in heat pipe thermal efficiency. Spherical shaped, 40 nm size CuO nanoparticles are used in this study and its physical and thermal chracteristics are investigated. The results are compared with a heat pipe using DI water at horizontal position.The thermal efficiency is improved by increasing the tilt angle and mass of particles dispersed in DI water. The improvement in thermal efficiency obtained are 20.59, 35.92 and 32.57% respectively for 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 wt% of CuO nanofluids and 60° inclination angle.

A series of vertical fire suppression experiments on rigid polyurethane (RPU) and flexible polyurethane (FPU) with/without water spray were conducted in a standard chamber. A new video processing method was developed to determine the pyrolysis front position of wind-aided flame. Averaged flame height, carbon monoxide/hydrogen cyanide concentration, view factors, and extinguishing time were determined with operating pressure varying from 0.15 MPa to 0.4 MPa. The experimental study showed that water spray would suppress RPU/FPU fire mainly by fuel surface cooling. Furthermore, the perfect water spray pressure for RPU/FPU fire suppression was 0.3 MPa and the corresponding water application rate was 0.7511 mg/(cm2·s).

Peeling roller is an important working part of multi-function corn peeling machine which can stripping the skin of eaten fresh corn, forage corn and seeding corn. The main material of peeling roller was analysed in this paper, The orthogonal experiment method was used to study the effect of peeling roller’s shape, speed and tilt angle on the corn peeling machine’s performance. The results showed that the material and type of peeling roller has the most significant impact on it. The optimal combination of three factors was A2B3C1: “person shaped” roller-type, 550r/min roller’s speed and 10°peeling angle.

This paper experimentally study on CH4/ air co-flow diffusion combustion on the upper surface of porous media packed beds. The flame height and flame shape were reconstructed from the upper and the side of the combustor. The influence of the height of the packed bed on the flame height and flame shape is reported. It is shown that the flame height decreases rapidly and the circular diameter increases rapidly with increase the height of the packed beds.
