To incorporate solar energy efficiently into a country, it is needed to know the optimal tilt and azimuth angle of the solar collectors' location. Also, to build a solar park, it is necessary to know the most suitable and high-energy generating place inside a country, thus saving time and money. This study analyzed collector geometry for Karachi in particular and Pakistan in general. Karachi has the potential of 339.36 kW-hr/m2/annum energy at an annually optimal fixed tilt of 26°. In case collector geometry had to be changed in Karachi, a range of 40° azimuth angle and 20° tilt angle from its maximum value is available. The power produced in this case would only have a difference of 1%. Optimal yearly and monthly tilt of most of the locations of Pakistan (300+) were calculated. Through them, it was revealed that the Optimal Tilt of Pakistan follows the value of latitude closely. Generally, changing the tilt angle monthly is recommended for areas that produce more energy, while fixed annual tilt could be suitable for low energy-producing regions. Effects of temperature were also incorporated while finding the energy produced by the photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Purpose The main purpose of the present work is to study the multi response optimization of dissimilar friction stir welding (FSW) process parameters using Taguchi-based grey relational analysis and desirability function approach (DFA). Design/methodology/approach The welded sheets were fabricated as per Taguchi orthogonal array design. The effects of tool rotational speed, transverse speed and tool tilt angle process parameters on ultimate tensile strength and hardness were analyzed using grey relational analysis, and DFA and optimum parameters combination was determined. Findings The tensile strength and hardness values were evaluated from the welded joints. The optimum values of process parameters were estimated through grey relational analysis and DFA methods. Similar kind of optimum levels of process parameters were obtained through two optimization approaches as tool rotational speed of 1150 rpm, transverse speed of 24 mm/min and tool tilt angle of 2° are the best process parameters combination for maximizing both the tensile strength and hardness. Through these studies, it was confirmed that grey relational analysis and DFA methods can be used to find the multi response optimum values of FSW process parameters. Research limitations/implications In the present study, the FSW is performed with L9 orthogonal array design with three process parameters such as tool rotational speed, transverse speed and tilt angle and three levels. Practical implications Aluminium alloys are widely using in automotive and aerospace industries due to holding a high strength to weight property. Originality/value Very limited work had been carried out on multi objective optimization techniques such as grey relational analysis and DFA on friction stir welded joints made with dissimilar aluminium alloys sheets.

Posterior eccentric glenoid wear is associated with higher complication rates after shoulder arthroplasty. The recently reported association between the acromion shape and glenoid retroversion in both normal and osteoarthritic shoulders remains controversial. The three-dimensional coordinates of the angulus acromialis (AA) and acromioclavicular joint were examined in the scapular coordinate system. Four acromion angles were defined from these two acromion landmarks: the acromion posterior angle (APA), acromion tilt angle (ATA), acromion length angle (ALA), and acromion axial tilt angle (AXA). Shoulder computed tomography scans of 112 normal scapulae and 125 patients with primary glenohumeral osteoarthritis were analyzed with simple and stepwise multiple linear regressions between all morphological acromion parameters and glenoid retroversion. In normal scapulae, the glenoid retroversion angle was most strongly correlated with the posterior extension of the AA (R2 = 0.48, p < 0.0001), which can be conveniently characterized by the APA. Combining the APA with the ALA and ATA helped slightly improve the correlation (R2 = 0.55, p < 0.0001), but adding the AXA did not. In osteoarthritic scapulae, a critical APA > 15 degrees was found to best identify glenoids with a critical retroversion angle > 8 degrees. The APA is more strongly associated with the glenoid retroversion angle in normal than primary osteoarthritic scapulae.

Abstract ScAlN films are currently being investigated for their potential use in surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices for next-generation mobile networks because of their high piezoelectricity. This paper describes the numerical simulation of SAW propagation in c-axis-tilted ScAlN films on silicon substrates and a fabrication technique for preparing c-axis-tilted ScAlN films on silicon substrates. The electromechanical coupling coefficient K 2 of SAW propagating in the ScAlN film/silicon substrate increased due to the c-axis tilt angle. The maximum K 2 value is approximately 3.90%. This value is 2.6 times the maximum K 2 value of the c-axis-oriented ScAlN film/silicon substrate structure. The c-axis-tilted ScAlN films with an Sc concentration of 40% were prepared on a silicon substrate via RF magnetron sputtering based on the self-shadowing effect, and the maximum c-axis tilt angle was 57.4°. These results indicate that this device structure has potential for SAW device applications with well-established micromachining technology derived from silicon substrates.

This paper studies the application of data fusion technology in power system to solve some difficult problems in this complex energy system. A transmission tower identification and bird nest detection method based on corner, line, color and shape features is proposed. Through LSD (Line Segment Detection) and Harris corner detection method, the straight line segment and corner point in the image are extracted respectively. Combined with triangle method, the actual tilt angle of tower is measured; According to the nesting rule of birds in transmission towers, the basic unit segmentation algorithm of transmission towers is proposed, and the basic unit segmentation of transmission towers is realized by using the local maximum of the target pixel row statistical histogram. The algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively solve the problems of on-line measurement of tilt angle of transmission tower and on-line detection of bird's nest, which will lay a theoretical foundation for on-line monitoring of transmission tower status.

The focus of this research is to design a ground-mounted photovoltaic system at optimal tilt angle and interrow space to meet high demand of electrical energy. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology, GC University Faisalabad has been considered to perform the simulation test. This study is conducted using Meteonorm software for solar resource assessment. Furthermore, HelioScope software is used for modeling of a ground-mounted photovoltaic system, study of PV system’s performance in terms of annual generation, system losses and performance ratio and analysis of photovoltaic module’s performance, current-voltage and power-voltage curves for different irradiance levels. From SLD, it is seen that 11 strings are connected to each inverter and inverters output power are combined by using 20.0 A circuit interconnects. The performance of photovoltaic systems is impacted by tilt angle and interrow spacing. From simulation results of all cases, it is concluded that the PV system installed at 15° tilt angle with 4 feet interrow spacing are more efficient than the other installed PV systems, because total collector irradiance is maximum (1725.0 kWh/m2) as compared to other tilt angles. At 15° tilt angle, the annual production of photovoltaic system is 2.265 GWh and performance ratio of PV system is 82.0%. It is envisioned that this work will provide the guidance to energy system designers, planners and investors to formulate strategies for the installation of photovoltaic energy systems in Pakistan and all over the world.

An investigation of the optical characteristics of a layer of Ag nanoparticles deposited from an AgNO3 solution on the surface of single-crystal Si is presented. The measurements were carried out using spectroscopic ellipsometry and spectrophotometry at the same tilt angle and sample probe location in a wide spectral range from 200 to 1700 nm. From the obtained experimental data, the parameters of the Drude-Lorentz model and the complex dielectric function were determined, which was compared with the pseudo-dielectric function. Both dependences revealed resonances of a bulk plasmon near the energy E = 3.8 eV, while a localized plasmon was detected in the pseudo-dielectric function at E = 1.65 eV, and in the dielectric function at E = 1.84 eV.
