AbstractThree species belonging to the genus Macrolaimus, namely M. canadensis, M. crucis and M. ruehmi, have been obtained from areas of natural vegetation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Corsica (France), the Czech Republic and Spain. These three species are characterized by the body length of males and females, stomatal proportion of the gymnostom and cheilostom, excretory pore position, postvulval uterine sac length, male and female tail length and morphology, and the length and morphology of the spicules and gubernacula. The occurrence of M. crucis in Spain has, as a result of this study, now also been expanded to a larger area of the southern Iberian Peninsula. Morphological and morphometrical analyses showed that M. canadensis and M. ruehmi are very similar, sharing apomorphic characters. In contrast, M. crucis has plesiomorphic characters. Description, measurements and illustrations are provided for these three species.

Summary A population of Macrolaimus arboreus was collected from the rhizosphere of pine in Iran. This population of M. arboreus is characterised by the body length, 800-1010 μm in females, lip region with six seta-like papillae directed anteriad, stoma nearly as long as wide (9-11 × 7 μm), with cheilostom slightly longer than gymnostom and cheilorhabdia and gymnorhabdia well-developed, pharyngeal corpus 1.8-2.0 times the isthmus length, with slightly swollen metacorpus, excretory pore located at isthmus level, female reproductive system monodelphic-prodelphic reflexed with short post-vulval uterine sac, female tail conical (57-67 μm, c = 13.7-15.0, c′ = 3.5-3.8), ending in an acute tip which is weakly curved dorsad, and phasmids at 54-60% of tail length. Measurements and illustrations, including SEM, are provided.

Three new and one known species of the genus Aporcelaimellus with simple uterus and typical caudal region, mainly col-lected in natural areas of southeastern Iberian Peninsula, are studied, including descriptions, measurements, line illustra-tions and LM pictures. Aporcelaimellus baeticus sp. n. is characterized by a body length of 1.96–2.95 mm, lip region offset by constriction and 17–20 μm broad, odontostyle 17–22 μm long, neck 510–635 μm long, pharyngeal expansion 250–335 μm long, a dorsal cell mass at level of anterior end of intestine, uterus 60–150 μm long or 0.9–1.7 times the corresponding body diameter, vulva transverse (V = 48–54), tail convex conoid with broadly rounded terminus (30–46 μm, c = 47–80, c’ = 0.7–1.1), spicules 99–103 μm long, and 18–21 irregularly spaced ventromedian supplements which lack hiatus. Apor-celaimellus brevicaudatus sp. n. is characterized by a body length of 1.54–2.14 mm long, lip region offset by a more or less distinct constriction and 14–16 μm broad, odontostyle 13–15 μm long, neck 512 μm long, pharyngeal expansion 255 μm long, uterus 39–57 μm long or 0.9–1.0 times the corresponding body diameter, V = 50–55, tail short and rounded to hemispherical (24–27 μm, c = 66–82, c’ = 0.6–0.7) with inner core hardly reaching the middle of tail length, and male unknown. Aporcelaimellus rotundus sp. n. is characterized by its body 2.01–2.58 mm long, lip region offset by constriction and 19–20 μm broad, odontostyle 22–23 μm long, neck 455–579 μm long, pharyngeal expansion 226–316 μm long, a dis-tinct dorsal cell mass present at cardia level, uterus 28–74 μm long or 0.5–0.9 times the corresponding body diameter, V = 47–52, female tail short and conoid to rounded (27–33 μm, c = 64–90, c’ = 0.7–0.9), and males unknown. New data, including SEM pictures, sequences and taxonomic comments, are provided for A. waenga.

Aim: The evaluation of the trend in the occurrence of melanoma nodulare, melanoma superficiale, lentigo maligna and melanoma in situ in the period of 2002–2017 in East Bohemia region in the Czech Republic. We examine if the annual numbers of hours of sunshine could affect the number of patients with melanoma. Method: In the peridod of 2002–2017, altogether 2230 patients with new diagnosis of melanoma were examined. We studied 1) If there is some trend in the occurrence of lentigo maligna and melanoma in situ, melanoma superficiale, and melanoma nodulare and if there is a difference in the age of patients with this diagnosis (adjusted calculation of specific kind of melanomas and adjusted calculation of age). 2) If the annual numbers of hours of sunshine affect the trend in the occurrence of melanoma and if the annual numbers of hours of sunshine affect the body site of melanoma. Results and conclusion: Our study confirmed that the number of patients with lentigo maligna and melanoma in situ had increased in East Bohemia region in the period of 2002–2017. The number of melanomas of nodular and superficial type does not increase. The total number of melanomas in this period does not increase either. No difference of the age of patients with melanoma nodulare, superficiale, lentigo maligna and melanoma in situ was confirmed. We confirmed no relation of the annual numbers of hours of sunshine to the number of melanoma and to the body site of melanoma.

Aim: To evaluate the occurrence of melanoma in the period 1996–2017 in East Bohemia region in the Czech Republic. Method: We studied the incidence of melanoma and the age of diagnosis (adjusted calculation) and the parameters such as histology, body site of lesions, the length of the duration of lesions in 2810 patients. Results and conclusion: No change in the occurrence of melanoma and in age of melanoma during this period was found. The difference between men and women was not confirmed in histology, but the difference between men and women was confirmed in the body site of lesion and in the length of duration of lesion. No relation between the length of duration of lesions from which melanoma had originated and its histology was confirmed. The relation was confirmed between histology and body site of melanoma. The relation between the body site and the length of duration of previous lesions was confirmed also. The increasing occurrence of melanoma on the trunk according to the duration of the previous lesions was confirmed.

This collection offers a series of perspectives on the bodies of Eastern European and Russian cinema, a terrain of growing scholarly interest, but one which remains under-researched, for reasons that are both general and region-specific. Our aim is not to provide a monolithic vision of how the body has been configured across this vast geographical area; it is not possible to formulate a single argument concerning the Eastern European and Russian body. Rather, the chapters put forward a series of ‘openings on the body’, to use Shildrick and Price’s terminology, in the cinemas of the region (1999: 1). The kaleidoscopic vision that emerges from these perspectives is of the body, whether individual, collective, symbolic or specific, as a nexus of often-competing forces, affects and ideologies, and as multiple and fluid. We hope that, by making corporeality our focus, we will yield new insights into the material and screen cultures of the countries under consideration: former Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Russia and former Yugoslavia. With the possible exception of Russia, the cinematic outputs of these countries are marginalised in studies of both ‘European’ and ‘world’ cinema. As Portuges and Hames point out, this is a relatively recent development: between the 1950s and 1970s, these film industries were more widely known and studied; the subsequent decline of interest has meant that ‘a generation of critics and audiences have grown up for whom the cinemas of Eastern Europe are very much unknown territory’ (2013: 3). With our focus on this region, we thus aim to foster a more inclusive vision of material and film culture.

Abstract Sexual dimorphism of the Eurasian red squirrel on five somatic variables (head-and-body length, tail length, hind foot length, ear length and body weight) was evaluated on 55 squirrels. The overlap of values of the measured traits among sexes was high, but in all traits (with exception of the tail length) males seem to exhibit slightly higher mean values than females. However, these differences were non-significant, with the exception of a small significant difference in the tail length and tail-to-head-and-body ratio. Similarly, the results of discriminant function analysis show no differences between the sexes. Positive correlation analyses, together with PCA values, confirmed that tail length and hind foot length are traits that play a significant role in overall variability. We suggest that this relationship could explain their mutual importance in locomotion, where the feet are essential for movement in the trees. By contrast, the tail maintains balance on thin branches, or during jumps from one crown to another. Longer tails also demonstrate differential selection on males and females for a locomotor trait. Similarly, we discuss whether variations in tail length were connected to female reproductive success. Our results suggest that the non-significant results regarding SSD provide the benefit of the same size for both sexes in the protection of territory as well as inter- and intra-sexual interaction.

Bursaphelenchus singaporensis sp. n. isolated in China from packaging wood of deciduous trees, imported from Singapore is described and illustrated. This new species clearly belongs to the B. xylophilus group, having males with the typically shaped spicules with a cucullus at their distal extremity, the typical position and number of caudal papillae (three pairs and one single) and the anterior vulval lip of the females developed as a distinct flap. The new species is characterized by a body length of 792 (553–950) µm and 850 (690–961) µm of males and females, respectively, robust body (a= 34 and 31, resp.), 15–16 µm-long stylet, lateral field with four lines, long postuterine branch (averaging 102 µm) and a strongly conoid female tail (c= 20) with a finely rounded, only slightly ventrally-bent terminus, male with very strong spicules (41–48 µm long), distinct rostrum and small cucullus, and a dorso-ventral visible terminal bursa. Bursaphelenchus singaporensis sp. n. is closely related to other species of the B. xylophilus group (B. xylophilus, B. mucronatus, B. kolymensis, B. fraudulentus, B. conicaudatus, B. baujardi and B. luxuriosae) and similar to B. abruptus. The morphological differentiation is mainly based on the shape of the female tail. However, B. singaporensis sp. n. differs from all other species of the B. xylophilus group by larger spicules. The new species can be differentiated from B. abruptus, B. xylophilus, B. mucronatus, B. fraudulentus, B. conicaudatus and B. luxuriosae by means of ITS-RFLP patterns.

Aoruroides chubudaigaku n. sp. (Nematoda: Oxyuridomorpha: Thelastomatidae) is described from the wood-burrowing cockroach Panesthia angustipennis spadica (Shiraki, 1906) (Blattodea: Blaberidae: Panesthiinae) from Aichi prefecture, Japan. Females of A. chubudaigaku n. sp. are similar to A. costaricensis Carreno & Tuhela, 2011 by the position of the nerve ring at level of the first third of the isthmus, the body length and the comparative measurements of the oesophagus and tail. They differ by the position of the excretory pore and the vulva. The males of A. chubudaigaku n. sp. are characterized by the absence of ornamentations in the cervical cuticle and the nerve ring located at the posterior third of the corpus. In addition, the males of the new species can be differentiated by the length of the body and the comparative lengths of the oesophagus and the tail. The phylogeny of A. chubudaigaku n. sp. is inferred by the D2-D3 domains of the LSU rDNA and the validity of the genus Aoruroides Travassos & Kloss, 1958 is discussed on the basis of both molecular and morphological data. This constitutes the first species of the genus Aoruroides described from the Japanese archipelago.

One new and one known (but uncommon) species of the genus Ablechroiulus are described and illustrated from natural areas in the Iberian Peninsula. Ablechroiulus spelaeus sp. n. is characterized by having body length 0.81–1.48 mm in females and 0.74–1.20 mm in males, lip region nearly continuous and 9–13 μm wide, stoma 23–29 µm long or 1.8–2.7 times the lip region width, neck 166-265 μm long, metacorpus well differentiated, oviduct with a small sac, V = 55–59, female tail (51–60 µm, c = 14–25, c' = 1.9–2.7) with two marked sections, male tail (52, 58 µm, c = 14.3, 20.7, c' = 2.0) with filiform posterior part, bursa leptoderan and with nine pairs of papillae (1+2/1+2+1+2), spicules 40, 44 µm long having a terminal protuberance, and gubernaculum 20, 24 µm long. Furthermore, one female of A. dudichi Andrássy, 1970 is described from the north of the Iberian Peninsula. Descriptions, measurements and illustrations are presented for the two species, and SEM pictures are provided for A. spelaeus sp. n. The identity of Ablechroiulus is discussed, including a historical outline, its morphological characterization, and a discussion on the status of several of its species. An emended diagnosis of the genus is provided as well as a list of its species and a key to their identification.

Abstract During a survey for entomopathogenic nematodes in citrus orchards throughout South Africa, a new species of Steinernema was isolated from a citrus orchard on Rietkloof farm, near the town of Piketberg in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. The nematode was isolated from soil using the Galleria-baiting technique. Steinernema citrae n. sp. is characterised by the following morphological characters: third-stage infective juvenile with a body length of 754 (623-849) μm, distance from head to excretory pore of 56 (49-64) μm, tail length of 71 (63-81) μm, and ratio E value of 110 (85-132). The lateral pattern for the new species is 2, 7, 8, 6, 4, 2 and is not typical for the genus. Steinernema citrae n. sp. is closely related the feltiae-group. The body length of the IJ is close to that of S. texanum and S. weiseri, though it differs in body diam., the length of the pharynx and E%. The male of S. citrae n. sp. differs from S. feltiae in the length and shape of the spicule and body diam. Steinernema citrae n. sp. differs from all species in the feltiae-group in the morphology of the vulva, as it has a single flapped, low, epiptygma. It also differs from the most closely related species, S. feltiae, as there is no interbreeding between the two species. In addition, the new nematode differs from other species of the feltiae-group by characteristics of the ITS and D2D3 regions of its rDNA.
