In tow-nettings from Plymouth Sound, June 20th, 1935, Acartia clausi were abundant and inside these copepods, emerging from them and free in the water were very large numbers of larval trematodes, easily identified as Hemiurus communis. This is not a new record, for this parasite has already been described from the same Copepod in Plymouth waters in May and February (Lebour, 1923), but it has always been rare. In no case have more than two parasitised specimens been seen from these regions, and no seasonal appearance has been noticed. Much has been written about these trematodes which grow in the bodies of copepods until they are of such a large size that they inevitably kill the host and just before it dies emerge from between the joints, if not eaten before this with the copepod, but I think this is the first time that they have been recorded in any quantity at one time. Since my first communication Steuer (1928) has written about the geographical distribution of these hemiurids parasitising copepods and is of the opinion that all those in Northern seas belong to Hemiurus lühei and H. communis. In the Mediterranean the hemiurids known have not yet been found in copepods but usually in Sagitta, or are found living freely in the sea and these probably belong to H. rugosus which lives in the adult state in the pilchard.

The survey of Heteroptera carried out in 2016 along the nature path “Bosco dei Tigli” (Lime Trees Wood) in Piode (Piedmont, 900 m a.s.l.), highlighted 74 species, belonging to 68 genera in total. The number of species of each family well represents the Italian Heteroptera composition, with the prevalence of Miridae and Pentatomidae. The Miridae Criocoris nigripes var. apicalis (Fieber, 1861), a new record in the Alps, and Dicyphus flavoviridis (Tamanini, 1949), an Italian endemic taxon, were collected. Atractotomus parvulus (Reuter, 1878) and Orthotylus viridinervis (Kirschbaum, 1856) were recorded for the first time in Piedmont. Piode is the most Northern area, with Sondrio, where the Mediterranean Lygaeidae Oxycarenus lavaterae (Fabricius, 1784) was found.

This study deals with exploration of freshwater desmids for the first time from Ropar wetland (Ramsar site) of Punjab (India) to assess their taxonomic aspects and bio-geographical distribution. During this study, samples of planktonic, epiphytic and epilithic desmids were collected from littoral zone and were observed under light microscope for their morphometric characteristics based identification. Total 21 desmids species belonging to 4 genera of 2 families (Closteriaceae and Desmidiaceae) were identified from the collected samples. Among them, Cosmarium with 11 species (C. awadhense, C. bioculatum, C. trilobatum, C. divergens, C. granatum, C. moniliforme, C. nitidulum, C. subtumidum, C. reniforme, C. undulatum and C. obtusatum) was found to be most abundant followed by Closterium with 7 species (C. acerosum, C. dianae, C. incurvum, C. leibleinii, C. lunula, C. pritchardianum and C. aciculare), Euastrum with 2 species (E. spinulosum and E. platycerum) and Staurastrum with 1 species (S. crenulatum). The geographic distribution of identified desmid taxa in India has been also recorded. All the desmid taxa identified during this study are new record for the Punjab state of India. The results of this study provide significant baseline data for the future taxonomic and ecological studies from the similar habitats.

A survey conducted in inshore waters along the Romanian coast of the Black Sea from 1994 to 2000, yielded 24 polychaete species belonging to 10 families as follows: Polynoidae (2), Phyllodocidae (2), Syllidae (3), Nereididae (5), Spionidae (5), Capitellidae (3), Nerillidae (1), Sabellidae (1), Serpulidae (1), and Spirorbidae (1). Polydora websteri (Hartman, 1943) is a new record for the Mediterranean and Black Sea region. P. cornuta (Bose, 1802) is first recorded in the Black Sea. Additionally, two other species, namely Harmothoe imbricata (Linnaeus, 1767) and Typosyllis hyalina (Grube, 1863), are new to the Romanian fauna. The systematic position of some species is discussed. The information on geographical distribution within the Mediterranean region of species found is also provided.

Nephtyidae (Annelida; Polychaeta) from the Paraná coast (Brazil)The Nephtyidae from the Paraná coast (SE Brazil) are represented by 7 species in 3 genera, namely Nephtys acrochaeta, N. squamosa, N. fluviatilis, N. simoni, Inermonephtys palpata, Aglaophamus juvenalis and Aglaophamus uruguayi. Inermonephtys palpata, previously known from Australia, is recorded for the first time in Atlantic waters. Nephtys simoni is also a new record to the Brazilian coast. A key and descriptions, besides some comments on geographical distribution, are provided for all species examined.

Summary: Chusquea juergensii (Poaceae, Bambusoideae, Bambuseae), new record from Argentina. Chusquea juergensii is here reported for the first time for Argentina. It is described and illustrated, and a map of its geographical distribution in South America is included. In north-east Argentina Chusquea ramosissima and C. tenella are also present in sympatry with C. juergensii. A key for the identification of the three taxa that inhabit north-east Argentina is provided.Key words: Bambuseae, Chusquea, northeastern Argentina, taxonomy.Resumen: Chusquea juergensii se cita por primera vez a para la Argentina, la especie se describe e ilustra, incluyendo un mapa con su distribución geográfica en América del Sur. En el noreste de la Argentina habitan además Chusquea ramosissima y C. tenella en simpatría con C. juergensii. Se presenta una clave identificatoria de los tres taxones mencionados.Palabras claves: Bambuseae, Chusquea, noreste de la Argentina, taxonomía.

Desmoncus leptoclonos Drude is recorded for the first time for the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Based on this new record, the geographical distribution of Desmoncus Mart. for Brazil is expanded. An identification key to climbing species of Brazilian Desmoncus, a description, a map of geographic distribution, photographs, and comments concerning Desmoncus leptoclonos are provided.

The phlebotomine sand fly Pintomyia monticola (Costa Lima, 1932) is recorded for the first time in Brasília, central-west Brazil. A review of the geographical distribution of the species in South America is presented, and its distribution is extended. The potential geographical distribution of P. monticola is predicted based on ecological niche modeling. Ecological aspects of this species are discussed.

Abstract Sampling of fouling organisms carried out during January 2019 at Al-Max (west of the city of Alexandria) on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt revealed the presence of larval populations belonging to the genus Telmatogeton (Chironomidae), which is reported for the first time from the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. The larvae were found among clumps of fine filamentous green algae (Enteromorpha compressa). A description of the larva with taxonomic remarks and comments on its ecology and geographical distribution are given.

The “New Mediterranean Biodiversity Records” series includes new records of marine species found in the Mediterranean basin and/or information on the spatial distribution of already established species of particular interest. The current article presents information on 20 marine taxa classified per country according to their geographic position in the Mediterranean, from west to east. The new records per ecoregion are as follows: Algeria: the first record of the fish Etrumeus golanii is reported along the Algerian coast. Tunisia: the alien jellyfish Phyllorhiza punctata is reported for the first time in the Gulf of Gabès. Italy: the first record of Siganus rivulatus in the Strait of Sicily and a new record of Katsuwonus pelamis from the central Tyrrhenian Sea are reported. The establishment of the isopod of the genus Mesanthura in the northern Tyrrhenian with some notes on its ecology are also included. Croatia: signs of establishment of the Lessepsian Siganus luridus and the occurrence of the alien mollusc Rapana venosa are reported. Albania: the first record of the elasmobranch Alopias superciliosus and a recent sighting of the rare monk seal Monachus monachus in Albanian waters are given. Greece: signs of the establishment of the fish Parupeneus forsskali and of the ascidian Hermania momus in Hellenic Aegean waters are reported. Turkey: a new record of the fish P. forsskali and of the Acarea of the genus Acaromantis and Simognathus are given, while the first case of Remora australis in association with delphinids and the occurrence of the sea star Coscinasterias tenuispina are reported. Also, the establishment of the two alien species Isognomon legumen and Viriola sp. [cf. corrugata] are presented. Egypt: the fish Bathygobius cyclopterus is reported for the first time in Mediterranean Sea waters. Also, a new record of Pagellus bogaraveo and a first record of Seriola fasciata in Egyptian Mediterranean waters are reported. Lebanon: the first record of Dondice banyulensis is presented.

The genus Panurginus Nylander of the Asian part of Palearctic is revised for the first time. 14 species are listed for Siberia, the Far East of Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Northern China. Lectotypes for P. alticolus F. Morawitz, 1876, P. herzi F. Morawitz, 1891 and P. labiatus Eversmann, 1852 are designated. Panurginus niger Nylander, 1848, the type species of the genus, was studied for the first time after it was described. Panurginus dubius Osytchnjuk, 1995 is a junior synonym of P. niger Nylander, 1848. Panurginus alticolus, P. crawfordi Cockerell, 1914, P. herzi F. Morawitz, P. labiatus, P. romani Aurivillius, 1914, P. niger and P. nigripes F. Morawitz, 1880, are redescribed and seven new species are described: P. alpotanini, P. arsenievi, P. kozlovi, P. kropotkini, P. mikhno, P. muraviovi, P. obruchevi. In Russia, P. alticolus and P. labiatus are first recorded for Siberia; P. alticolus is a new record, and one species is newly described from Kazakhstan; P. niger and P. herzi are first recorded, and two species described from Mongolia. A key to the 14 species with 118 illustrations, and annotated list along with data on types, synonymies, general geographical distribution, the material examined and descriptions for all species is presented.
