AbstractThe use of the suffect consulship began to change with Caesar in 45b.c., after a number of decades in which no suffect consul had been elected. The office altered dramatically during the triumviral period. The triumvirs openly made use of the suffect consulship as a means of rewarding loyalty. Many of the suffect consuls, who were no longer elected by the people, but designated in advance by the triumvirs, werehomines noviwho belonged to previously unknown and insignificant Roman or Italian families. Increasing the number of consuls each year eliminatedde factothe traditional annuality of the office and reduced its authority. The implicit consequence of these actions was a gradual devaluation of the consulship. The suffect consulship was therefore a powerful tool in the hands of the triumvirs for strengthening their political position, weakening the old aristocracy and giving birth to a new elite based more firmly on personal loyalties.

A richness of tourism attractions has given Iran global importance within its border. Iran is a country with a huge cultural heritage, and is rich in historical monuments from different eras. The variety and diversity of cultural symbols allows tourists traveling in Iran to experience the cultures of other countries. The border areas of the country are therefore becoming increasingly attractive for tourism due to their distinctive social, economic and political position and the presence of many historical and natural attractions. This study analyzes border tourism in Kaleybar city using a descriptive–analytical method with a Meta-SWOT model (new strategic planning tool), with the final goal of economic development and the improvement of the welfare of the people. Through a literature review, the current and future capabilities and challenges of the county of Kaleybar as a border city are examined, and future goals and ways to achieve them have been developed using the opinions of experts and scholars via the Delphi technique. For this purpose, the Meta-SWOT model has been used. Meta-SWOT is based on resource-based theory (RBV). Data collection has been done several times using the opinions of 39 experts. After analyzing the conditions and recognizing and determining the capacities and skills of Kaleybar and its regional rivals, the results of the research show that the most important advantage of Kaleybar city concerns the existence of many attractions of a natural character. A higher strategic suitability is also ensured by the presence of parks and coastal sidewalks that attract important internal and foreign investments in this region. On the other hand, the component of political and governmental factors in attracting foreign tourists has the highest effective power, and the component of attention to integrated management in the field of tourism in the country has the highest degree of urgency.

A letter about his farewell to Flemish NationalismFor a decade Herman Vos played a prominent role in Flemish nationalism as a member of parliament for the Flemish Front party. Over the course of time his power base decreased however, because he as a free-thinker was increasingly less in step with the base of the party consisting mostly of Catholic country people. The range of ideas from the far right gained in popularity and at the end of October 1933 it became clear that the new party would adopt a programme which was closely associated with fascism. There was no room for Vos in such a party. Meanwhile the Socialist Party appealed to him.Vos had to make a decision. It appeared to be fairly certain that he not only had no political future within Flemish nationalism, but also would lose his job as a journalist. On the other hand, the socialist party made him an attractive proposal. However, Vos wanted to confer with the people who belonged to his mostly Antwerpian Group of friends and who were associated with the Socialist Party as well as Flemish nationalism. With this letter to his friend Robert Van Roosbroeck he organised a consultation about his future switch. It is likely that he hoped to switch parties not as a single person but with a larger group. That would have reinforced his political position within socialism. That plan failed however.

This paper addresses documentary landscape photographs of the industrial and post-industrial Northeast of England from 1983 to 2005. Adopting a “mobilities” approach, this paper addresses these images as revealing a process, in which the movement of things and people, on multiple scales and timeframes, continually adapts space and the subjectivities of the people inhabiting it. The representation of mobility is considered in relation to issues of time in the photograph and it proposes one approaches these images not as static representations of a singular time and place but as part of an extended “event”. This interpretation was suggested by Ariella Azoulay and the approach encompasses the historical circumstances of their making, in addition to the multiple viewing positions of their consumption. As such, these photographs suggest an ongoing relationship between power, movement and dwelling. The paper advocates for a contemplative, relational viewing position, in which viewers consider their own spatio-temporal and socio-political position in regard to those landscapes, as well as a continuum of mobilities.
