AbstractBackgroundPsychiatric prescribers typically assess adherence by patient or caregiver self-report. A new digital medicine (DM) technology provides objective data on adherence by using an ingestible event monitoring (IEM) sensor embedded within oral medication to track ingestion. Despite likely clinical benefit, adoption by prescribers will in part depend on attitudes toward and experience with digital health technology, learning style preference (LSP), and how the technology s utility and value are described.Objectiveis to identify attitudes, experiences, and proclivities toward DM platforms that may affect adoption of the IEM platform and provide direction on tailoring educational materials to maximize adoption. Methods A survey of prescribers treating seriously mentally ill patients was conducted to assess drivers/barriers to IEM adoption. Factor analysis was performed on 13 items representing prior experience with and attitudes toward DM. Factor scores were correlated with prescriber characteristics including attitude and experience with digital technologies, LSP, and level of focus on healthcare cost.ResultsA total of 127 prescribers (56% female, 76% physicians, mean age 48.1yrs.) completed the survey. Over 90% agreed medication adherence is important, visits allow enough time to monitor adherence (84.1%), and tailoring treatment to level of adherence would be beneficial (92.9%). The majority (65.9%) preferred relying upon outcomes data as their learning style while 15.9% preferred opinion leader recommendations and 18.3% information about how the technology would affect practice efficiency. Factor analysis revealed four dimensions: Level of comfort with EHR; Concern over current ability to monitor medication adherence; Attitudes about value of DM applications; and Benefits vs cost of DM for payers. Women scored higher on attitudes about the value of digital applications (p<0.01). Providers who perceive non-adherence as costly, and those who believe DM could benefit providers and patients scored higher on the value of DM (p<.05). Those whose LSP focuses on improving efficiency and prescribers with a higher proportion of Medicaid/ uninsured patients displayed concern about their ability to monitor adherence (p<0.05). Willingness to be a Beta Test site for DM applications was positively correlated with concern about their ability to monitor adherence and attitudes about the value of DM (p <0.01).ConclusionsPrescriber characteristics including LSP, focus on healthcare costs, and attitudes toward DM may be related to adoption of the IEM platform. Those with more Medicaid/ uninsured patients were more concerned about ability to monitor adherence while those focused-on cost and benefit to providers and patients viewed DM as part of a solution for managing outcomes and cost. Overall, LSP, patient panel size by payer type, and focus on healthcare cost containment should be considered when developing IEM provider training materials.FundingOtsuka Pharmaceutical Development & Commercialization, Inc.

Abstract Objectives Existing measures of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) symptoms are not well suited to self-report, inadequate in measurement properties, insufficiently specific, or burdensome for brief or repeated administration. We aimed to develop a patient-reported outcome measure to assess a broader range of IBD symptoms. Methods The IBD Symptoms Inventory (IBDSI) was developed by adapting symptom items from existing clinician-rated or diary-format inventories; after factor analysis, 38 items were retained on 5 subscales: bowel symptoms, abdominal discomfort, fatigue, bowel complications, and systemic complications. Participants completed the IBDSI and other self-report measures during a clinic visit. A nurse administered the Harvey Bradshaw Index (HBI) for Crohn’s disease (CD) or the Powell-Tuck Index (PTI) for ulcerative colitis (UC), and a gastroenterologist completed a global assessment of disease severity (PGA). Results The 267 participants with CD (n = 142) or UC (n = 125), ages 18 to 81 (M = 43.4, SD = 14.6) were 58.1% female, with a mean disease duration of 13.9 (SD = 10.5) years. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the 5 subscales. The total scale and subscales showed good reliability and significant correlations with self-report symptom and IBD quality of life measures, the HBI, PTI, and PGA. Conclusions The IBDSI showed strong measurement properties: a supported factor structure, very good internal consistency, convergent validity, and excellent sensitivity and specificity to clinician-rated active disease. Self-report HBI and PTI items, when extracted from this measure, produced scores comparable to clinician-administered versions. The 38-item IBDSI, or 26-item short form, can be used as a brief survey of common IBD symptoms in clinic or research settings.

The Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) and Adherence Starts with Knowledge (ASK-12) questionnaire were originally developed and validated in Western populations to assess beliefs and barriers to medication adherence. The study aim is to validate the BMQ and ASK-12 questionnaire for use in a Singapore population with early stage breast cancer. English-speaking women on adjuvant endocrine therapy ( n = 157) were recruited. The BMQ-Specific showed good internal consistency with structural validity. The internal consistency of BMQ-General and ASK-12 Behaviour scale improved with the new factor structure obtained from exploratory factor analysis. Further studies are needed to confirm these factor structures.

The present study aimed to develop an indigenous measure of learning styles for e-learners in Pakistan and to establish its psychometric properties. The objectives of the study were attained via three studies. First, the items for the development of the Learning Style Scale for e-Learners (e-LSS) were generated empirically based on a 5-point Likert-type scale. In Study I, the internal consistency and dimensionality of the measure were determined by sampling 360 e-learners aged from 20 to 40 years through a convenient sampling technique, whereas other demographic characteristics were kept in close consideration. For this purpose, exploratory factor analysis was utilized. In Study II of scale development, the factor structure that emerged in Study I was confirmed via confirmatory factor analysis using structural equation modeling. In Study III, the convergent and divergent validities of the newly constructed scale were established by correlating scores with preestablished scale scores that assess the similar construct (i.e., LSS) and with scores on the discriminant construct (i.e., Solving Problems Survey). The sample for this study consisted of 80 e-learners aged from 20 to 40 years. A total of 29 items were confirmed in the final scale with 8 distinctive factors (namely, visual, auditory, kinesthetic, global, analytical, individual, collaborative, and technological type) with sound psychometric properties. To conclude, the newly constructed scale was a significant addition to assess learning styles particularly of e-learners in the context of Pakistan.

The purpose of this work was to analyze the factor structure, estimate reliability of the Movement Imagery Questionnaire of Hall and Pongrac, and examine differences between men and women on factor scores. The results for 63 men and 47 women supported the bifactorial structure and reliability of this self-report and its adequacy in comparisons of visual and kinesthetic imagery scores.

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the preliminary development and validation of the Subjective Academic Wellbeing Measure (SAWM), which is a six-item self-report rating measure intended for use as a screening tool to assess the positive academic functioning of young people within the elementary and high school context. Exploratory factor analysis was performed with Sample 1 (N= 161), indicating that the SAWM was characterized by a unidimensional measurement model and had strong factor loadings. Results from confirmatory factor analysis, which was carried out with Sample 2 (N= 199), confirmed the measurement model by yielding good data-model fit statistics that were characterized by strong latent construct and internal reliability estimates. Further analyses showed that the scale had good convergent validity considering scores from several self-reported scales of student mental health problems and positive school functioning. Further analyses also showed that configural, metric, and scalar measurement invariance were observed across gender groups. These results provide initial evidence suggesting that the SAWM is a reliable and valid measure that can be used to assess the positive academic functioning of students within the school context. Implications are discussed, and some suggestions are provided for future research and practice
