A 1.1-m reflectarray antenna has been designed, manufactured, and tested to fulfill the requirements of a satellite antenna in Ku-band that provides South-American coverage in Tx and Rx. The reflectarray cells consist of four dipoles for each polarization in two dielectric layers, selected because of their simplicity and high performance. The dipole dimensions are optimized in all the reflectarray cells to accomplish the prescribed radiation patterns, by iteratively calling an analysis routine based on method of moments in spectral domain and local periodicity. The measured radiation patterns of the manufactured antenna have been satisfactorily compared with simulations and with a three-layer reflectarray previously designed, manufactured, and tested for the same mission.

This paper designs a Ka-Band satellite antenna using parallel differential evolution (DE). The antenna is of wide beam-width and left hand circular polarization (LHCP). The electromagnetic numerical value is calculated by the improved software NEC2 based on the method of moments. The parallel differential evolution computing platform consists of some computers and MPI is used as the messaging protocol among computers. The single-arm Ka-Band antenna with 8-segments designed in this method has obtained very good performance including gains, axial ratios and VSWRs in a shorter period.

A design formulation of microstrip reflectarrays is presented in this paper. Previous published articles, referring to this subject, present results for reflectarrays on a uniform dielectric substrate. In this work microstrip reflectarrays with offset feed, dual polarization, and side-lobe level under control, fabricated on a uniaxial substrate were studied. The method of moments, combined with the full-wave technique, and the corresponding dyadic Green's function is used for the specification of the electromagnetic field scattered by the array. In the paper the development of a fully electronic transmit-receive phased-array antenna system in Ku-band for aircraft communications via satellite is presented. Particular emphasis has been placed in the improvement of the following key elements: a dual-polarization self-diplexing radiating element, a transmit/receive active module with full polarization agility based on a digital vector modulator and a SiGe multinode MMIC. The optimized antenna elements enable a significant improvement towards the realization of a future affordable commercial product for satellite communications.
