To determine the relationship between reading achievement and the reaction time of an individual responding to auditory and visual stimuli present in his perceptual field Ss were selected at random from Grades 2, 4 and 6. S lifted his finger from a key as rapidly as possible at the onset of any one of four stimuli (red or green light, high or low tone). Shifting reaction time was not independent of reaction time in either the auditory or visual channel. Hence, the possibility that relative perceptual difficulties could exist in shifting behavior while no defect existed in either single channel was not supported. Perception defined as the reaction time of an individual responding to auditory and visual stimuli was not significantly related to reading achievement.

Questions concerning constitutional influence on perceptual style were answered in the affirmative by a comparative study of the field-dependency of identical and fraternal twins as measured by Witkin's Embedded Figures Test, Short Form. The results also contradicted previous findings that there is a significant sex difference in dependence upon the perceptual field.

The study of the first reading by the means of the national musical language and opera and theatrical tradition of China of the Oriental theme Turandot at the opera Wei Minglinu «The Chinese Princess» was conducted with the aim of outlining the specifics of the new figurative role of the heroine, its mental-psychological peculiarities; considering the metamorphosis of the Oriental tradition through the «congenital» of the exotic to the national-authentic. Scientific approaches are taken from the contextual field of comparative and imagoology, the methodology of which touches upon the field of studying the problems of mutual cultural representations of peoples, the assimilation of cultural heritage and images of a certain ethnic group in the consciousness and art of other nations, in correspondence with the actual problems of Orientalism in music. Reading the image of Turandot by a Chinese composer creates an opportunity for a new interpretative turn in the voluminous space of the existence of this text, the emergence of new measurements of the indicators of content and its characteristics. Image Turandot as an original model with the corresponding geocultural imago in the fabulous poetics of the perceptual field «East as Exotics and Danger», passing complex path of modification during the 300- year existence in the adaptation of different cultures, is embodied in means of national semantics of bright ethnographic-anthropological type. The author constructs an ethno-form from an Oriental-exotic heroine, demonstrating his national identity, revealing the typical ethnological features of the whole people. This allows us to interpret this opera as a national first reading, in which the generally accepted European model of Oriental travel fantasy semantics turns into a reasoned, realistic, based on traditional philosophical foundations, Chinese lyrical drama, in which exotic elements of European culture appear. The fact of this transcultural diffusion involves scientific research in the field of dialogue of cultures, encouraging new discoveries when meeting with the Other, re-evaluating, updating, rebuilding the position of "My" and "Other" in relation to to generally human and universal.

The article characterizes the sources of the historical dictionary of linguistic terms. The source base for the study of the evolution of Ukrainian linguistic terminology includes secondary sources, divided into such groups: 1) grammars and textbooks; 2) dictionaries and encyclopedias; 3) monographs and scientific articles on linguistic issues. The concept of “linguistic profile of the source” is used to describe the linguistic source of the historical dictionary of linguistic terms. The conceptualization process as a cognitive mechanism of the meaning formation is based on speech operations that a person uses in language usage. Determinant in the perception of information is the phenomenon of attention, which has several designations in cognitive linguistics: highlighting, perspectivization, profiling, focusing. The linguistic conceptualization of the cognitive profiling operation is based on the thesis that a person has the cognitive ability to perceive, interpret and describe the same reference situation differently, using different linguistic means. It is because a person chooses the most important and significant information for him at this moment from all other. Terms figure and background are used to describe the perceptual connection between the object of focus and the rest of the perceptual field. The links between terms figure and background at first were described by the Danish Gestalt psychologist E. Rubin. The concept of a linguistic profile of source is used to focus the researches attention on those aspects of the analyzed sources that are important for studying the evolution of the linguistic term. The following key points are I. “External” criticism of the source. 1. Time of the source creation. 2. Place of the source creation. 3. The historical and cultural and linguistic situation in the region of the source creation. 4. The author of the source, its age, education, worldview, etc. 5. Motives and circumstances of the source creation. 6. Estimation of the source in linguistic works. 7. Works that are the basis of the analyzed source. ІІ. “Internal” source criticism. 1. Complete coverage of language tiers. 2. The terms that denote the linguistic concepts, their hierarchical organization. 3. The author’s orientation on the specific Ukrainian / borrowed vocabulary to describe linguistic concepts. 4. Features of the usage of lexical units to denote the linguistic concepts in the source text, their paradigmatics and syntagmatics. This article is modelled the linguistic profile of I.H. Verkhratskyi’s works. The analysis of linguistic sources by these parameters makes it possible to present the history of a linguistic term in a linguistic text, taking into account its contextual environment and the richness of syntagmatic and paradigmatic connections. The linguistic profile of the source/works is an actual basis of dictionary articles of historical dictionaries of linguistic terms of different genres. Keywords: linguistic term, historical dictionary of linguistic terms, linguistic source studies, profiling, linguistic profile of a source, language personality.
