Objective: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of nontraumatic morbidity and mortality in military personnel. Most studies of the psychosocial impact of CAD have dealt with civilian populations. The purpose of this paper is to highlight differences between military and civilian populations with CAD in 4 areas: depression and anxiety, social support, return to work, and stress. Method: A computerized literature search from 1985 to 1995 using the search terms “stress,” “cardiovascular,” “cardiac,” “depression,” “military,” “anxiety” and “psychosocial” was undertaken. Controlled and prospective studies of civilian patients were selected along with relevant studies involving military populations. Results: Unique characteristics of the military may be important factors in affecting the psychosocial outcome of military patients with CAD. These characteristics include a high level of denial of illness, strong social supports, a powerful military work ethic, and stressful situations unique to the military. Conclusions: Most studies of the psychosocial impact of CAD are based on civilian populations. A review of available studies suggests that little is known about how military patients adapt to CAD, particularly with regard to symptoms of depression and anxiety, social impairment, and rates of return to work. Studies in this area are needed regarding the psychosocial aspects of CAD in military populations.

The mental health and psychosocial implications of the 2014 Ebola outbreak are multifaceted, impacting survivors, families, healthcare providers, and the public health response. We conducted a literature review and summarized published information pertinent to mental health and psychosocial aspects of Ebola virus disease (EVD). A total of 140 documents were identified, including peer-reviewed research, newspaper articles, pamphlets, and guidelines/training manuals. One of the main obstacles in reducing the outbreak has been the widespread ignorance, and potential panic over EVD, leading to fear, isolation, and stigmatization. Using results of this review we developed stigma mitigation messages for Ebola survivors and responders.

The Pahang uprising at the end of the 19th century AD featured various military innovation that proved the greatness of the Pahang Malay community. Pahang Malay Fighters used the advantage of their knowledge of nature (the forest) in addition to modern military equipment. Hence, it is the intention of the researchers to examine and identify the military tools used during the Pahang uprising. This paper utilises the methodology of content analysis and literature review. Based on the examination, it was found that military tools such as ‘sumpit’ and tree roots were used in the Pahang uprising as well as modern weapons such as guns and explosives. All of these tools were fully utilised in the formulation of war strategy planned by the leader of the Pahang fighters in the uprising, Dato' Bahaman. This combination of war strategy and military innovation became the benchmark of the greatness of the Pahang Malay community in the late 19th century AD.
