The history of the acquisition of French citizenship by Indochinese university élites remains yet to be written because few researchers have looked at the role played by sport and physical education in developing the Vietnamese élite. These young students discovered such physical activities at school and many of them claimed judicial/legal equality with the French. This article will demonstrate that sports and physical education were the key stages in a strategy for certain Indochinese students to become French citizens. At the same time, this tactic generated much tension within the Vietnamese student community between the two world wars.

Chatsworth is a township, which was consciously designed by the South African apartheid government in order to suppress its residents’ educational, social, financial, spiritual, and physical development. The primary aim of this article is to chronologically describe the history of Physical Education and extra-curricular school sport from 1960 to 2020, in the community of Chatsworth, through review of national, provincial, and local educational policies and extra-curricular school sport management structures. A narrative literature surveillance was completed using Google Scholar and Sabinet. Key search terms were “Chatsworth,” “physical education,” and “school sport.” The search identified 2050 records, of which only six were ultimately included. The records were assessed for researcher, bias employing a modified Downs and Black Appraisal scale. Due to the paucity of literature recounting the history of Chatsworth’s Physical Education and extra-curricular school sport, interviews were conducted with two proponent Chatsworth physical education teachers. The article describes the national and provincial education curriculum reforms that influenced Physical Education and extra-curricular school sport in Chatsworth.

Scholarship related to physical education and sport pedagogy is rigorous and should be central to the academic discipline of kinesiology. The goal of this article is to situate physical education and sport pedagogy as an applied field in kinesiology, grounded in the assumption that physical education, as the professional or technical application of the broader academic discipline, is of critical importance to the success of kinesiology. A brief overview of the history of research on teaching physical education is followed by an overview of the streams of research that have evolved. Major tenets of research on effective teaching and curricular reform are discussed. The status of physical education teacher education and school physical education programs is considered, and a rationale for a broader view of pedagogy that has the potential not only to promote physical education and sport pedagogy but also to enrich the academic discipline is offered.

We seek to understand the medical orientation to promote hygienic education in the João Barbalho school, a structure created to be the model of a republican school institution in Pernambuco. The period covers the creation of the Group and the process of expansion of these institutions in Pernambuco. Required documents, reports of school groups, educational legislation, and hygiene theses of the studied period were analyzed. This research is based theoretically and methodologically on the assumptions of cultural history, and studies related to the history of education in Brazil. We perceive that Pernambuco school groups were formed late compared to groups from other Brazilian states. To ensure the proper functioning guidelines, should be followed: the practice of physical education, anthropometric examinations, and intelligence tests to establish the profile of students for the constitution of homogeneous classes intellectually, physically and racially.

A partir dessa perspectiva, buscamos apontar as especificidades das práticas de professores e alunos nas aulas de Educação Física nas escolas desse município mineiro.</p><p><strong>Palavras-chave:</strong> História da Educação – História da Educação Física – Triângulo Mineiro.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Abstract: </strong>This article is concerned about the implementation of Physical Education in schools in the city Ituiutaba (<em>Triângulo Mineiro</em>) between 1934 and 1971. The adoption of physical activities in school curriculums aimed to <em>discipline</em> and <em>purify</em> the local youth and children reflected the new pedagogical ideal directed to the control of the "insubordinate instincts", seeking to regulate behaviors and contributing to the new social organization which appeared with the urban and industrial society, especially after the Second World War. Such a context brought about the need for development of a high degree of productive efficiency, where schooling would be essential to achieve such purpose, beyond the contribution to the transmission of the idea which was necessary to ensure a "pure education" in the fight against large epidemic outbreaks. From this perspective, we highlight the specific practices of teachers and students in Physical Education classes in the schools of this city.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> History of Education – History of Physical Education – Triângulo Mineiro.</p>
