Hierarchically porous ceria was successfully synthesized via an interfacial reaction between the water-soluble Ce2(SO4)3 precursor and NaOH in ethanol. Neither additional surfactant molecules nor calcination was employed during the preparation process.

A novel Tyr-selective protein bioconjugation using the water-soluble persistent iminoxyl radical is described. The conjugation proceeded with high Tyr-selectivity and short reaction time under biocompatible conditions (room temperature in buffered media under air). The stability of the conjugates was tunable depending on the steric hindrance of iminoxyl. The presence of sodium ascorbate and/or light irradiation promoted traceless deconjugation, restoring the native Tyr structure. The method is applied to the synthesis of a protein-dye conjugate and further derivatization to azobenzene-modified peptides.

The water soluble photoinitiator (PI) 4-(trimethyl ammonium methyl) benzophenone chloride is used for the first time in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). A new green synthesis method involves using PI/UV system, carboxymethyl starch (CMS), silver nitrate, and water. A mechanism of the reduction of silver ions to AgNPs by PI/UV system as well as by the newly born aldehydic groups was proposed. The synthesis process was assessed by UV-vis spectra and TEM of AgNPs colloidal solution. The highest absorbance was obtained using CMS, PI and AgNO3concentrations of 10 g/L, 1 g/L, and 1 g/L, respectively; 40°C; 60 min; pH 7; and a material : liquor ratio 1 : 20. AgNPs so-obtained were stable in aqueous solution over a period of three weeks at room temperature (~25°C) and have round shape morphology. The sizes of synthesized AgNPs were in the range of 1–21 nm and the highest counts % of these particles were for particles of 6–10 and 1–3 nm, respectively.

Extremely small-sized superparamagnetic magnetite nanoparticles of 3Cit). The resulting Cit-coated magnetite nanoparticles exhibited long-term colloidal stability in aqueous media without any surface modification. Regarding the magnetic properties, the nanoparticles were superparamagnetic at room temperature, and might be the potential candidate for MRI contrast agents.

Cactus seed oil is gaining considerable popularity in the cosmetic industry. To estimate cactus seed oil’ industrial as well as domestic ease of use, we investigated the oxidative stability of Moroccan cactus seed oil under accelerated aging conditions. In addition, we compared cactus seed oil stability to that of argan oil, a popular and well-established cosmetic oil, under the same conditions. Cactus seed oil is much more sensitive to oxidation than argan oil. Its shelf-life can be estimated to be no longer than 6 months at room temperature. Such instability means that the preparation process for cactus oil must be carried out with great care and cactus seed oil needs to be protected once extracted.

<p>The water-soluble fullerenes [C60, C70] are prepared with fullerenes [C60, C70] and a mixture of oxidants (v/v) at the ratio of 3:1 under ultrasonic condition at room temperature. The MALDI-TOF MS confirmed that the water-soluble compounds were C60 and C70. The antioxidant effect of water-soluble fullerenes [C60, C70] in the PC 12 cells (Rat pheochromocytoma) line following exposure to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was investigated.</p>
