The melting and crystallization behaviors of Polypropylene/Syndiotactic1,2-polybutadiene (PP/s-PB) blends and neat PP were studied by using DSC, the results showed that the presence of s-PB in PP would have a strong impact on the crystallization capacity of PP. The presence of s-PB in PP could increase the crystallization temperature(Tc) of PP, and the s-PB could obviously lower supercooling temperature(Tm-Tc) of PP, but the s-PB in PP have a Slightly influence on the melting temperature(Tm) of PP. The proposed reason for those are that the crosslinking s-PB in high temperature is a nucleator for PP’s crystallization and increases PP’s crystalline rate. However, the s-PB lowers PP’s crystallinity. At the same time, the presence of PP in blends lowers s-PB’s crystallinity, but the PP in blends have a Slightly influence on the melting temperature(Tm) and crystallization temperature(Tc) of s-PB.

Biodegradable polylactide (PLA) composites/pristine multiwalled carbon nanotubes (P-CNT) composites with three different aspect ratios (length to diameter) are prepared by coagulation method. Isothermal crystallization and morphology of neat PLA and its composites are further investigated to clarify the effects of aspect ratio of CNT on the crystallization behaviors of PLA in its composites. Results show that the different aspect ratio CNT exhibit substantially different effects on PLA crystallization. It is interesting to find that small aspect ratio CNT (CNT-S) greatly promotes nucleation rate than big aspect ratio CNT (CNT-L).

The traditional hydrothermal synthesis methods are mainly performed under batch operation, which generally takes few days to weeks to yield a zeolite with the desired properties and structure. The zeolites are the backbone of the petrochemical and wastewater industries due to their importance. The commercial methods for zeolite synthesis are expensive, laborious and energy intensive. Among waste products, incense sticks ash is a compound of aluminosilicates and could act as a potential candidate for the synthesis of zeolites for daily needs in these industries. Incense sticks ash is the byproduct of religious places and houses and is rich in Ca, Mg, Al and Si. As a result, incense sticks ash can be proven to be a potential candidate for the formation of calcium-rich zeolites. The formation of zeolites from incense sticks ash is an economical, reliable and eco-friendly method. The application of incense sticks ash for zeolite synthesis can also minimize the problem related to its disposal in the water bodies, which will also minimize the solid waste in countries where it is considered sacred and generated in tons every day.

ABSTRACTStudies on the structures and crystallization behavior of gels in TiO2, GeO2, SiO2-GeO2 and PbO-GeO2 systems are presented to analyze the differences in structures and crystallization behavior of gel-derived glasses and conventional glasses. The kinetic parameters for crystallization such as activation energies and frequency factors of gels, gel-derived glasses and conventional glasses in the GeO2-PbO system are presented to elucidate their difference in nucleation and crystallization behaviors. The influence of gel processing parameters such as pH and water concentration on the crystallization behavior of gels are discussed.

The use of Si3N4, alloys for high temperature, high stress structural applications has prompted numerous studies of the oxynitride glasses which exist as intergranular phases in their microstructures. Oxynitride glasses have been investigated recently in their bulk form in order to understand their crystallization behavior for subsequent Si3N4 applications and to investigate their worth as glass-ceramic precursors. This research investigates the crystallization sequence of a glass having a normalized composition of Y26Si30Al11 ON11 and lying in the A1N-Y2O3-SiO2 section of the Y-Si-Al-O-N system. Such glasses exist as intergranular phases in the technologically important Y2O3/Al2O3-fluxed Si3N4 alloys.
