Large area Polystyrene/WO3 opal composite monolayers were successfully fabricated via a modified “dynamic-hard-template” infiltration strategy, and then used as building block for the synthesis of 3D WO3 inverse opal films in a bottom-up approach.

Crack-free large-area single-layer SiO2 inverse opal (IO) films similar to an inverse “moth's eye” structure, are fabricated. The effects of their porous structure on transmittance in the visible region are investigated.

In this study, Tin Oxide (SnO2) inverse opal was fabricated by infiltrating SnO2 sol-gel precursor solution into Poly Styrene (PS) spheres crystal template which was generated via evaporative deposition self-assembling, then was heat treating at 500°C for two hours in controlled atmosphere box furnaces. PS spheres crystal template was characterized by Scanning electron microscope and Ultraviolet-visible-near infrared absorption spectrometer. The SnO2 inverse opal was characterized by Scanning electron microscope, Energy Diffraction Spectrum, X Ray Diffraction. The large-area, highly ordered SnO2 inverse opal was achieved in this paper.

Large-area single-crystalline vanadium dioxide nanoflakes were first fabricated via a thermal reduction method in a tube furnace. The sample was characterized by x-ray diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that VO2 nanoflakes are single-crystalline with a monoclinic structure. The VO2 nanoflakes have a width of 200–300 nm, a thickness of 50–100 nm, and a length up to 1–2 μm. It is found that single-crystalline VO2 nanoflakes show a novel and complicated 5–7-step Li-storage behavior for an insertion amount of <0.6 mol lithium per mol of VO2.

Ferroelectric inverse opals are promising candidates for tunable photonic crystals due to their electro-optical and elasto-optical properties. In this work, inverse opal photonic crystals of (Pb0.9La0.1)(Zr0.65Ti0.35)O3 (PLZT) were prepared through a self-assembled template replication procedure on a large area (typically 2cm × 1cm). The annealing process was optimized. The surface and cross-section were studied by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). X-ray Diffraction (XRD) results proved that PLZT in the ferroelectric perovskite phase was obtained. A band gap was observed in the transmission spectra and compared with the theoretical value.
