AbstractZn-ion hybrid supercapacitors (SCs) are considered as promising energy storage owing to their high energy density compared to traditional SCs. How to realize the miniaturization, patterning, and flexibility of the Zn-ion SCs without affecting the electrochemical performances has special meanings for expanding their applications in wearable integrated electronics. Ti3C2Tx cathode with outstanding conductivity, unique lamellar structure and good mechanical flexibility has been demonstrated tremendous potential in the design of Zn-ion SCs, but achieving long cycling stability and high rate stability is still big challenges. Here, we proposed a facile laser writing approach to fabricate patterned Ti3C2Tx-based Zn-ion micro-supercapacitors (MSCs), followed by the in-situ anneal treatment of the assembled MSCs to improve the long-term stability, which exhibits 80% of the capacitance retention even after 50,000 charge/discharge cycles and superior rate stability. The influence of the cathode thickness on the electrochemical performance of the MSCs is also studied. When the thickness reaches 0.851 µm the maximum areal capacitance of 72.02 mF cm−2 at scan rate of 10 mV s−1, which is 1.77 times higher than that with a thickness of 0.329 µm (35.6 mF cm−2). Moreover, the fabricated Ti3C2Tx based Zn-ion MSCs have excellent flexibility, a digital timer can be driven by the single device even under bending state, a flexible LED displayer of “TiC” logo also can be easily lighted by the MSC arrays under twisting, crimping, and winding conditions, demonstrating the scalable fabrication and application of the fabricated MSCs in portable electronics.

AbstractWe describe the successful fabrication of device-quality a-Si:H thin-film transistors (TFTs) on stainless-steel foil substrates. These TFTs demonstrate that transistor circuits can be made on a flexible, non-breakable substrate. Such circuits could be used in reflective or emissive displays, and in other applications that require rugged macroelectronic circuits. Two inverted TFT structures have been made, using 200 gim thick stainless steel foils with polished surfaces. In the first structure we used the substrate as the gate and utilized a homemade mask set with very large feature sizes: L = 45 μm; W = 2.5 mm. The second, inverted staggered, structure used a 9500 Å a-SiNx:H passivating/insulating layer deposited on the steel to enable the use of isolated gates. For this structure we used a mask set which is composed of TFTs with much smaller feature sizes. Both TFT structures exhibit transistor action. Current-voltage characterization of the TFTs with the inverted staggered structure shows typical on/off current ratios of 107, leakage currents on the order of 10-12 A, good linear and saturation current behavior, and channel mobilities of 0.5 cm2/V·sec. These characteristics clearly identify the TFTs grown on stainless steel foil as being of device quality.

Fe3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method using triethanolamine. Effects of reaction times (2–8[Formula: see text]h) on crystallinity and electrochemical performances of Fe3O4 were investigated. Samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption, scanning electron microscope, galvanostatic charge/discharge, and cyclic voltammetry. Results showed that the crystallinity of Fe3O4 was increased with hydrothermal time, and the sample prepared at 2[Formula: see text]h displayed amorphous structure with small grain size and large surface area of 165.0[Formula: see text]m2[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text]. The sample exhibited typical pseudocapacitive behavior with capacitance of 383.2[Formula: see text]F[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] at 0.5 Ag[Formula: see text] in Na2SO3 electrolyte. After 2000 cycles, the capacitance retention of Fe3O4 at 2[Formula: see text]h was recorded as 83.6%, much higher than 26.3% for sample at 8[Formula: see text]h. It indicated that hydrothermal method was an effective approach to obtain amorphous Fe3O4, implying the potential application for preparing metal oxide electrode for supercapacitors.
