Gelator (G1) solution reveals brilliant blue light upon mixing with Mg2+; this blue light can be erased using saliva or CO32−. Based on this characteristic, a smart erasable writable material was prepared.

Building novel functional nanomaterials with a polymer is one of the most dynamic research fields at present. Here, three amphiphilic block copolymers of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative motifs (MQ) with excellent coordination function were synthesized by Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain Transfer Polymerization (RAFT) polymerization. The coordination micelles were prepared through the self-assembly process, which the MQ motifs were dispersed in the hydrophobic polystyrene (PSt) blocks and hydrophilic Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide (PNIPAM)) blocks, respectively. The dual-emission micelles including the intrinsic red light emission of quantum dots (QDs) and the coordination green light emission of Zn2+-MQ complexes were built by introducing the CdSe/ZnS and CdTe/ZnS QDs in the core and shell precisely in the coordination micelles through the coordination-driven self-assembly process. Furthermore, based on the principle of three primary colors that produce white light emission, vinyl carbazole units (Polyvinyl Carbazole, PVK) with blue light emission were introduced into the hydrophilic PNIPAM blocks to construct the white light micelles that possess special multi-emission properties in which the intrinsic red light emission of QDs, the coordination green light of Zn2+-MQ complexes, and the blue light emission of PVK were synergized. The dual and multi-emission hybrid micelles have great application prospects in ratiometric fluorescent probes and biomarkers.

A series of side-chain functionalized polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) derivatives were synthesized via the blue-light photocatalytic thiol-ene “click” reaction. Firstly, unsaturated polytetrahydrofuran (UPTHF) as a new unsaturated polyether was synthesized via condensation polymerization of cis-2-butene-1,4-diol and trans-1,4-dibromo-2-butene using potassium hydroxide (KOH) as a catalyst. Then, double bonds in the backbone of UPTHF were modified into different pendant functionality side groups by blue-light photocatalytic thiol-ene “click” reaction using Ru(bpy)3Cl2 as a photoredox catalyst, obtaining different side-chain functionalized PTHF derivatives. The structure and the morphology of the side-chain functionalized PTHF derivatives was characterized via Fourier-transform infrared spectra (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), size exclusion chromatography/multi-angle laser light scattering (SEC/MALLS), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The results showed that the blue-light photocatalytic thiol-ene reaction exhibited high efficiency, and all the unsaturated bonds were modified. Different branch units bestowed different performance of PTHF derivatives; we systematically investigated the thermal properties, pH-triggered and temperature-triggered, self-assembly behaviors of different PTHF derivatives.

A two-stage-assembly of a supramolecular gel (B-gel) can emit brilliant blue light due to the strong AIEE effect depending on the multiple hydrogen-bonding and coordination bonds between gelator L and Cd2+.

A fluorine-containing acylhydrazone was newly designed and found to form gels in a mixed solvent of DMSO–ethylene glycol. The gelator could show brilliant blue light upon mixing with Al3+, which could be erased by F− ions and thus forming an erasable gel.
