Photocatalytic oxidative desulfurization (PODS) has received much attention due to low energy consumption and high efficiency, as well as simple and pollution-free operation. In this study, zinc oxide supported on titanium dioxide (ZnO/TiO2) catalysts were prepared via a simple electrochemical method. The presence of anatase phase TiO2 and wurtzite ZnO was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis while band gap energies were determined by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-Vis DRS). The photocatalytic activity was tested for desulfurization of 100 mg/L dibenzothiophene (DBT). The highest desulfurization rate (2.20 × 10-3 mM/min) was achieved using 1 g/L of 10 wt% ZnO/TiO2 after 2 hr under UV irradiation.

Abstract Utilizing the phase transition characteristic of vanadium dioxide, we present a metamaterial configuration to achieve both reflective and transmissive cross-polarization converters. When vanadium dioxide is metal, the design behaves as a reflective cross-polarization converter. It consists of metallic grating, topas spacer, and vanadium dioxide film. Polarization conversion ratio is more than 90% in the frequency range from 4.80 THz to 13.13 THz. When vanadium dioxide is insulator, the design behaves as a transmissive cross-polarization converter using cascaded metallic gratings with rotation angle . High-efficiency broadband cross-polarization wave conversion is achieved in the frequency band of 0.50-4.75 THz. The effects of oblique incidence on reflective and transmissive modes are studied on polarization conversion. The results tell that cross-polarization conversion is better when incident angle is in the range of -. The designed metamaterial may have a certain inspiration for the research of terahertz multifunctional polarization converter.

Sulfur oxides are air pollutants derived mainly from the combustion of gasoline. Reducing the sulfur content of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) gasoline is of key importance for the prevention and control of atmospheric pollution. We describe herein the fabrication and characterization of a porous, three-dimensional (3D) graphene oxide-supported zinc oxide (GO/ZnO) scaffold as an adsorbent for desulfurization with various model compounds and real FCC gasoline. The uniform and stable dispersion of ZnO nanoparticles on the surface of GO facilitates the specific binding of sulfides. Moreover, GO synergistically adsorbs aryl sulfides via [Formula: see text]–[Formula: see text] stacking interactions. The GO/ZnO nanosheets were further self-assembled into a 3D porous scaffold that effectively trapped sulfides and inhibited desorption. These scaffolds exhibited excellent desulfurization performance with maximum sulfur capacity up to 29.73[Formula: see text]mg S/g. This work provides a novel perspective on the fabrication of high-efficiency adsorbents for gasoline pretreatment.
