This paper addressed the formation control problem of surface unmanned vessels with model uncertainty, parameter perturbation, and unknown environmental disturbances. A formation control method based on the control force saturation constraint and the extended state observer (ESO) was proposed. Compared with the control methods which only consider the disturbances from external environment, the method proposed in this paper took model uncertainties, parameter perturbation, and external environment disturbances as the compound disturbances, and the ESO was used to estimate and compensate for the disturbances, which improved the anti-disturbance performance of the controller. The formation controller was designed with the virtual leader strategy, and backstepping technique was designed with saturation constraint (SC) function to avoid the lack of force of the actuator. The stability of the closed-loop system was analyzed with the Lyapunov method, and it was proved that the whole system is uniformly and ultimately bounded. The tracking error can converge to arbitrarily small by choosing reasonable controller parameters. The comparison and analysis of simulation experiments showed that the controller designed in this paper had strong anti-disturbance and anti-saturation performance to the compound disturbances of vessels and can effectively complete the formation control.

This paper describes a simple method of steepest-descent optimization of a criterion functional F(α1, α2,...) depend ing on the state variables y i(t;α1,α2,...) of a dynamic system with design parameters α 1, α 2.... The system is simulated on a fast analog computer and the parameters are given mutually orthogonal sequences of binary pertur bations during successive computer runs. Simple correla tion of each parameter perturbation with the criterion functional value at the end of each computer run yields ap proximations for the gradient components ∂ F/∂α k needed for steepest-descent optimization with a minimum- of dig ital logic. As an example, two- and three-parameter model- matching problems are solved by iterative computation at 1000 iterations per second. A course term-paper for first-year graduate students

Zeros of a class of transcendental equation with small parameter [Formula: see text] are considered in this paper. There have been many works in the literature considering the distribution of zeros of the transcendental equation by choosing the delay [Formula: see text] as bifurcation parameter. Different from standard consideration, we choose [Formula: see text] as bifurcation parameter (not the delay [Formula: see text]) to discuss the distribution of zeros of such transcendental equation. After mathematical analysis, the obtained results are successfully applied to the bifurcation analysis in a biological model in the real word phenomenon. In the real world model, the effect of climate changes can be seen as the small parameter perturbation, which can induce bifurcations and instability. We present two methods to analyze the stability and bifurcations.

Abstract. The accuracy of hydrological predictions in snow-dominated regions deeply depends on the quality of the snowpack simulations, with dynamics that strongly affect the local hydrological regime, especially during the melting period. With the aim of reducing the modelling uncertainty, data assimilation techniques are increasingly being implemented for operational purposes. This study aims to investigate the performance of a multivariate sequential importance resampling – particle filter scheme, designed to jointly assimilate several ground-based snow observations. The system, which relies on a multilayer energy-balance snow model, has been tested at three Alpine sites: Col de Porte (France), Torgnon (Italy), and Weissfluhjoch (Switzerland). The implementation of a multivariate data assimilation scheme faces several challenging issues, which are here addressed and extensively discussed: (1) the effectiveness of the perturbation of the meteorological forcing data in preventing the sample impoverishment; (2) the impact of the parameter perturbation on the filter updating of the snowpack state; the system sensitivity to (3) the frequency of the assimilated observations, and (4) the ensemble size. The perturbation of the meteorological forcing data generally turns out to be insufficient for preventing the sample impoverishment of the particle sample, which is highly limited when jointly perturbating key model parameters. However, the parameter perturbation sharpens the system sensitivity to the frequency of the assimilated observations, which can be successfully relaxed by introducing indirectly estimated information on snow-mass-related variables. The ensemble size is found not to greatly impact the filter performance in this point-scale application.

To address the problem of filter parameter perturbation in nonlinear networked systems, a nonfragile quantized dissipative filter is designed by considering the coexistence of random one-step time delay, multipacket losses, and quantization error. We acquired the sufficient conditions for the existence of filter by choosing appropriate Lyapunov function as well as utilizing linear matrix inequality. Furthermore, we obtained the parameter expressions of the designed filter. The designed filter could meet the performance requirements of stability and dissipativity for the filter error system under the condition of allowed time delays, packet loss probability, and quantization density. The effectiveness of the designed filter is verified by numerical simulation.
