The review of basic methods for glass-fiber material machining is shown, characteristic features are presented also advantages and drawbacks of different processing methods are mentioned. There is shown a description of glass-fiber material edge machining. The alternative methods such as hydro-abrasive cutting and laser working are considered.

The presented study describes the investigation of the potential of ultrasound abrasive cutting of modern fiber composites. A force analysis of the abrasive cutting process of CFRP was conducted, while the process parameters were varied. In addition, the surface quality of the machined workpieces was observed.

Poly-crystalline diamond (PCD) is an extremely tough, synthetically produced cutting tool material, which offers outstanding capabilities concerning wear behavior in abrasive cutting environments. Currently, the primary application of PCD cutting tools is the machining of non-ferrous materials, as the diamond’s carbon high affinity towards iron causes diffusion effects while cutting steel with rising temperature. This effect significantly reduces tool life. To lower the occurring temperature of the cutting process, and therefore avoid the reaction of carbon and iron, a thermal functionalization of the cutting inserts has been investigated. The results give insight into making PCD cutting tools economically usable for the machining of iron-carbon materials.

Presented are results of the surface quality sandwich composites (aluminum alloy EN AW-2024 and CFRP) by using an abrasive water-jet. The experiments were conducted with different speed of cutting, pressure of the abrasive water, mass flow rates, entry side of the stream and quantity of composite layers. The analysis has been studied based on received bevel angle values.

Optimisation of technological processes is an important field of research of machining processes. Honing process, its aim and results are affected more factors. Effectiveness is expressed by the following parameters: accuracy, surface roughness, complex surface quality (integrity),material removal rate, costs and productivity of the process. Developed method helps the technology planning and with the introduced new goodness indicator, investigates and corrects it. Optimization and minimization of costs can be ensured at given technological circumstances and technological parameters. With adjustment of the pressure (p) and the cutting speed (vc) economy of the process can be increased in the factory. Developed method can be applied for machining by other abrasive cutting tools. The paper summarizes new results of this theoretical and experimental research.
