On the basis of the previous work, combined with the test piles collected from Shenyang area, this paper makes a detailed study of the current standard single safety factor design pile base method to the probability limit state design pile base method. The main work is statistical analysis, calculation of reliability index, analysis of the main factors affecting the reliability index of static pressure pipe pile and the analysis of its sub-coefficient coefficients, the reliability of its carrying capacity analysis has made a useful exploration.

In order to study the pressure carrying capacity of X80 pipe with metal loss defect on the girth weld the water-pressure blasting test of the pipe with metal loss defect was analyzed by experiment and finite element simulation. Based on this, the sensitivity analysis of the factors affecting the pressure carrying of the pipeline, such as the circular size, the axial size, and the depth of the metal loss defect, was carried out. The research results show that the circular size of the metal loss defect on the girth weld had little impact to the pressure carrying capacity of the pipe while it reduced with the increasing of the axial size and the depth of the metal loss defect.

The work is focused on the reliability of corroded stiffened plates subjected to compressive uniaxial load based on the progressive collapse approach as stipulated by the Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers, employing the limit state design. Two different cases have been investigated. In the first model, the corrosion degradation led to uniform thickness loss, whereas the mechanical properties were unchanged, as given in the Rules. In the second model, the plate thickness degradation was followed by mechanical properties reduction. The uncertainties related to the mechanical properties, thicknesses, and initial imperfections of the corroded stiffened plate were taken into account. Several initial design solutions of stiffened plates, as well as different severity levels of corrosion degradation were investigated. The results show that structural reliability significantly decreases with corrosion development, especially when in addition to the initial imperfections and corrosion plate thickness reduction, corroded plate surface roughness and the changes in the mechanical properties were considered. The uncertainties, their origins and confidence levels are discussed. It was found that non-linear time-dependent corrosion degradation accounting not only for the thickness reduction due to corrosion wastage but also the subsequent decrease of mechanical properties lead to a significant reduction in the reliability index. Additionally, it was defined that the reliability estimate is very sensitive to the uncertainties related to the initial thickness and the spread of corrosion degradation as a function of the time. Incorporating the probability of corrosion detection into the original reliability model introduces additional information about the validity of structural degradation that may lead to a higher beta reliability index estimate compared to the original model.

<p>This paper proposes a general procedure for evaluating a nominal value of wind velocity for a wind load- governed limit state to secure a target reliability index during the design life of a structure. The nominal value of wind velocity, referred to as a basic wind velocity, and wind load factor should be determined so that the factored wind load effect secures a target reliability index for a wind load-governed limit state. In this study, the analytical form of the return period of the basic wind velocity is expressed as a function of the target reliability index, wind load factor, and statistical parameters of wind pressure, which are derived as linear functions of the coefficient of wind velocity. The proposed approach is applied to the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code-Cable supported Bridge, which specifies the design life of a structure as 100- and 200-year.</p>

Corrosion of reinforcement is considered as the major cause of most deteriorated concrete structures. As reinforcement corrodes, the load carrying capacity is affected and hence, the probability of failure increases. At the time of inspection of deteriorated structures, engineers are faced with the problem whether the available steel is enough to secure the safety of the structural member. This chapter addresses this problem based on reliability-based approach to evaluate the safety of the deteriorated members due to uniform corrosion under bending. A methodology is proposed to facilitate the determination of the member reliability index based on basic material properties and current loading. A step-by-step procedure is proposed based on charts developed in this study according to the Egyptian code provisions.

In order to study the pressure carrying capacity of X80 pipe with plain dents, the formation process and the hydraulic test were analyzed by finite element simulation. Based on this, the sensitivity analysis of the factors affecting the pressure carrying capacity of the pipeline, such as the internal pressure, the confinement state and the material performance, is carried out. Research results show that springback amount of the pipeline decreases due to the initial internal pressure, and constraint state has little effect on the pressure carrying capacity while increases with the increasing of the material tensile properties. When the depth of the dent is less than 6% pipe diameter or the strain of the dent is less than 6%, the dent has little impact to the pressure carrying capacity of the pipe.

This paper presents a reliability analysis of wood I-joists for both strength and serviceability limit states. Results are obtained from a finite element analysis coupled with a first-order reliability method. For the strength limit state of load-carrying capacity, multiple failure modes are considered, each involving the interaction of several random variables. Good agreement is achieved between the test results and the theoretical prediction of variability in load-carrying capacity. Finally, a procedure is given to obtain load-sharing adjustment factors applicable to repetitive member systems such as floors and flat roofs. Since the fatigue crack propagation process from initial size till final fracture is affected by lots of random factors, it is difficult to evaluate the fatigue reliability. Based on reliability theory, the first order second moment method ( JC method) is adopted to analyze and compute the fatigue reliability. To account for the uncertainties of material resistance, the parameters in the deterministic fatigue crack growth rate equation and material fracture toughness are taken as random variables with Normal distribution or Log-Normal distribution. Consequently, the limit state equation of fatigue crack growth is derived. The fatigue reliability index at any moment is calculated iteratively through JC method. As a computation example, the curve of fatigue crack growth reliability index with time is presented.

Under the concept of green development, accurately mapping ecological carrying capacity to effectively evaluate regional sustainability has already become an important issue in China. This study introduced ecological carrying capacity intensity (ECintensity) based on the revised three-dimensional ecological footprint (3DEF) model to describe the temporal–spatial patterns of three-dimensional ecological carrying capacity (EC3D) in Inner Mongolia in 2010–2016 and to explore factors affecting socioeconomic sustainable development. The results showed that ecological footprint size (EFsize) differed between cities/leagues but changed little during the study period. Ecological footprint depth (EFdepth) far exceeded the original value of 1.00. Ecological carrying capacity (EC) varied in cities/leagues, while ECintensity increased slowly with stronger potential for regional development. Three-dimensional ecological deficits (ED3D) of cities/leagues were divided into five categories: Hohhot, Hulunbuir and Banyannur were in larger ecological surplus; Hinggan was in slight surplus; Baotou, Chifeng, Tongliao, Ulanqab, Xilin Gol and Erdos were in slight deficit; Wuhai was in stronger deficit; and Alxa was in severely intense deficit. Woodland of cities/leagues was continuously in slight ecological surplus, while cropland and grassland had crucial impacts on deficit. There was a significant positive linear correlation between gross domestic product (GDP) and footprint, while a negative correlation was seen with deficit. These results would help coordinate resource utilization and industrial structure adjustment in Inner Mongolia.

Due to many uncertainties in nonprobabilistic reliability assessment of bridges, the limit state function is generally unknown. The traditional nonprobabilistic response surface method is a lengthy and oscillating iteration process and leads to difficultly solving the nonprobabilistic reliability index. This article proposes a nonprobabilistic response surface limit method based on the interval model. The intention of this method is to solve the upper and lower limits of the nonprobabilistic reliability index and to narrow the range of the nonprobabilistic reliability index. If the range of the reliability index reduces to an acceptable accuracy, the solution will be considered convergent, and the nonprobabilistic reliability index will be obtained. The case study indicates that using the proposed method can avoid oscillating iteration process, make iteration process stable and convergent, reduce iteration steps significantly, and improve computational efficiency and precision significantly compared with the traditional nonprobabilistic response surface method. Finally, the nonprobabilistic reliability evaluation process of bridge will be built through evaluating the reliability of one PC continuous rigid frame bridge with three spans using the proposed method, which appears to be more simple and reliable when lack of samples and parameters in the bridge nonprobabilistic reliability evaluation is present.
