Aluminium metal matrix composites are pretty much important in the different demanding sectors such as in the field of medicine and engineering like automobiles, aerospace, defence, dental and consumer goods. The need arises due to its huge calibre in industrial need of good materials with lighter weight, excellent properties and economical in cost demanded the researchers or scientists research on composite materials. The AMMCs or Al-MMCs consists of an apex variety of mechanical properties which is directly proportional to the chemical composition of the Aluminium matrix. To enhance strength the reinforcement plays a key role in AMMCs could be in the form of continuous/ discontinuous fibres, whiskers & particulate as the second phase depending on their applications and property requirements. In addition to it, various strength enhancers are reinforcements such as fly ash, TiC, SiC, Al2O3, TiO2, B4C etc. This paper attempts to review the different combinations in the processing of aluminium metal matrix composites along with their properties and their applications.

Nowadays, the usage of metal matrix composites is increased in aero space, automotive, marine, electronic and manufacturing industries. Aluminum metal matrix composites have attained significant attention due to their good mechanical properties like strength, stiffness, abrasion and impact resistant, corrosion resistance. When compared to the conventional materials Aluminum Silicon Carbide (AlSiC) hybrid materials available in minimum cost. In the present study, based on the literature review, the individual Silicon Carbide with aluminum and combined influence of Silicon Carbide with graphite reinforcements Aluminium Metal Matrix Composites and Silicon Carbide with mica reinforcement Aluminum is studied. The monolithic composite materials are combined in different compositions by stir casting fabrication techniques, to produce composite materials. The literature review framework in this paper provides a clear overview of the usage of Graphite and Mica as a reinforcing agent in different composition matrices along with its distinctive performances.

It is well known that the addition of ceramic phases in an alloy e.g. aluminum, in form of fibers or particles influences its mechanical properties. This leads to a new generation of materials, which are called metal matrix composites (MMCs). They have found a lot of application during the last twenty-five years due to their low density, high strength and toughness, good fatigue and wear resistance. Aluminum matrix composites reinforced by ceramic particles are well known for their good thermophysical and mechanical properties. As a result, during the last years, there has been a considerable interest in using aluminum metal matrix composites in the automobile industry. Automobile industry use aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with SiC or Al2O3 particles for the production of pistons, brake rotors, calipers and liners. However, no reference could be cited in the international literature concerning aluminum reinforced with TiB particles and Fe and Cr, although these composites are very promising for improving the mechanical properties of this metal without significantly alter its corrosion behavior. Several processing techniques have been developed for the production of reinforced aluminum alloys. This paper is concerned with the study of TiB, Fe and Cr reinforced aluminum produced by the stir-casting method.

Utilization of agricultural by products as a reinforcement which offers a effective consequences on composite materials in the present days. Also a number of the agro waste substances as an ash are secondary filler material for Metal matrix composite materials. In this paper observe changed into achieved on characterization of agriculture waste ashes like Rice husk ash (RHA) and ASA (Areca sheath ash), burned at Controlled temperatures at 650°C in a metallurgical furnace at 3 exceptional durations of instances like 1hr, 2hr, and 3hr. Also each ashes were chemically and physically characterized, consequently decide the proportion of composition. The ensuing ashes have been analyzed the use of chemical evaluation via XRF and volumetric, gravimetric and instrumental test, SEM and EDS to determine their chemical composition which may be similarly used as reinforcement with metal matrix composites. Results acquired that impact of burning temperature and time on Chemical composition, Physical property, Loss of ignition (LOI) and Density. The ashes have been discovered to include excessive percent of silica content of 90% to 92% in Rice husk ash and 74% to 78% in Areca palm leaf sheath ash, after which accompanied through alumina content of 0.89% to 0.98% in each substances at 650oc temperatures respectively, additionally density of 0.98gm/cc for RHA and 1.12gm/cc Areca palm leaf sheath ash. Loss on ignition (LOI) of 4.5% to5.5% acquired on the equal temperature. These consequences suggests that rice husk ash and Areca sheath ash include excessive percent silica and a few alumina and may be utilized in chemical formulations requiring silica which include in metal matrix composites.
