In the present study, the fatigue life and fatigue fracture characteristics of annealed 7005 aluminum alloy plates subjected to different pre-tensile deformations were investigated. The results obtained upon increasing the pre-tensile deformation of the alloy plate to 20% revealed that the second-phase particles did not show any obvious changes, and that the thickness of the thin strip grain slightly decreased. The dislocation distribution in the alloy matrix varied significantly among the grains or within each grain as the dislocation density gradually increased with increasing pre-tensile deformation. Moreover, the fatigue performance of the annealed 7005 aluminum alloy plate was significantly improved by the pre-tensile deformation, and the alloy plate subjected to 20% pre-tensile deformation exhibited an optimal fatigue life of ~1.06 × 106 cycles, which was 5.7 times and 5.3 times that of the undeformed and 3% pre-stretched alloy plates, respectively. Two fatigue life plateaus were observed in the pre-tensile deformation ranges of 3–5% and 8–12%, which corresponded to heterogeneous dislocation distribution among various grains and within each grain, respectively. Moreover, two large leaps in the plot of the fatigue-life–pre-tensile-deformation curve were observed, corresponding to the pre-tensile deformation ranges of 5–8% and 16–20%, respectively.

2024Al alloy powder as matrix material with nanocopper-modified graphene as reinforcement was studied to explore the effects of graphene on the tissue, hardness, friction performance of the composite. The Cu/Gr/2024Al composites were prepared via three-dimensional mixed powder and vacuum hot press sintering. The results found that the nanocopper-modified graphene could be uniformly distributed in the aluminum alloy matrix, and formed a good binding interface with the matrix material. When the graphene content was 0.75 wt.% and 1.0wt%, the impact yield strength and the hardness reached the maximum of 434.8 MPa and 118.4 HV5, which were 27.24% and 43.11% higher than that of 2024Al respectively. Furthermore, with the increase of nanocopper-modified graphene content, the corrosion resistance of composite materials in 3.5%Cl-concentration solution was improved.

The research work was focused on utilization of solid industrial waste. In order to investigate the properties of Fe-Cr slag particulates strengthened AA7075 composites. In this paper addition of ferrochrome slag particles as reinforcement in AA 7075 alloy processed through stir casting technique. By varying size of ferrochrome slag particles were added to evaluate the size effects in the given alloy matrix. Prepared composites were subjected to heat treatment and evaluated for microstructure analysis. The results show that there is a uniform distribution of particles in the matrix and that there is a strong bond between the matrix and the reinforcement. Grain refinement in the alloy matrix is observed by inducing slag particles. Further nanocomposites show lower grain size values.

Present studies are based on adding ferrochrome slag as reinforcement in AA 7075 alloy manufactured via the stir casting process. Two different slag particles are chosen; they are 36μm (Micro) and 68 nm (Nano). This was added to evaluate the size effects in the given alloy matrix. The composites were tested for unique microstructural properties and mechanical properties. The results Revealed uniform particle distribution within the matrix and good bonding between the matrix and the reinforcement. Better mechanical properties are obtained for both micro and nanocomposites than base alloy. This is further enhanced by ageing treatments. nanocomposites show superior mechanical properties than either alloy or micro composite. Interestingly, nanocomposite exhibits an increase in strength with good ductility; same is confirmed with fracture studies.

The low melting temperature In-48Sn alloy is a promising candidate for flexible devices. However, the joint strength of the In-48Sn alloy on the Cu substrate was low due to the rapid diffusion of Cu into the In-rich alloy. In this study, the effect of the addition of xCu (x = 2.0 and 8.0 wt.%) on wettability, interfacial reaction, and mechanical strength of the In-Sn-xCu/Cu joint is analyzed. The results demonstrate that both the In-48Sn and In-Sn-xCu alloys exhibit good wettability on the Cu substrate and that the contact angle increases with an increase in the Cu content. Furthermore, fine grains are observed in the alloy matrix of the In-Sn-xCu/Cu joint and the interfacial intermetallic compound (IMC) comprising the Cu-rich Cu6(In,Sn)5 near the Cu substrate and the Cu-deficient Cu(In,Sn)2 near the solder side. The In-Sn-2.0Cu/Cu joint with fine microstructure and a small amount of IMC in the alloy matrix shows the highest average shear strength of 16.5 MPa. Although the In-Sn-8.0Cu/Cu joint also exhibits fine grains, the presence of large number of voids and rough interfacial IMC layer causes the formation of additional stress concentration points, thereby reducing the average shear strength of the joint.

Aluminum alloys with silicon, magnesium, and copper were extensively used alloying elements in various applications because of their excellent properties. In recent decades, aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) are an advanced engineering material widely utilized in diverse engineering applications, including aircraft, automobile, marine, and shipbuilding, owing to their low density, lightweight, good stiffness, superior strength, and good tribological properties. Aluminum is abundant and its use is as vast as the ocean. It is also the most used matrix material in the composite arena. Therefore, incorporating a ceramic particle into a relatively soft aluminum matrix improves hardness, strength, stiffness, creep, fatigue, and wear properties instead of the conventional materials. This article is an assay to review and spotlight some recent works on the mechanical behaviors of aluminum-based titanium diboride reinforced metal matrix composite. This review article concentrates on the mechanical properties and the fabrication processes of Al-TiB2 composites to provide a valuable reference to nurture future research precisely.

Purpose The purpose of this is to study the effects of organic sealing on the structure and performance of the micro-arc oxidation (MAO) film of 7075 aluminum alloy. Design/methodology/approach The 7075 aluminum alloy was treated by micro-arc oxidation technology, then the MAO films were sealed by polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) solutions with different concentrations to forms a MAO/PVDF composite coating on the surface of the 7075 aluminum alloy matrix. Findings The results show that the MAO/PVDF film thickness increased to 24.8 um. When the PVDF concentration was 8 g/L, and the sealed film reached best corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Originality/value The effects of different concentrations of PVDF on microarc oxidation properties of 7075 aluminum alloy were studied.
