The paper analyses international practices of energy saving for train traction. It describes methods that allow decrease of power consumption. Russian practices of energy consumption for train traction are reviewed, as well as methods for determining the power consumption related to condition of track layout geometry. Best practices of evaluation of impact of profile elevation unevenness to the train traction energy consumption are presented. The calculations that allow matching the data on track geometry before and after track maintenance works are performed, and the convictions concerning cost reduction for train traction energy saving are developed.

Energy consumption all over the world is constantly growing. To save energy, new technologies are being developed for the efficient use of energy resources. The goal of all new developments is to use less energy to provide the same level of energy supply for technological processes or buildings. The problem of energy saving is relevant for the ventilation system. Together with the removed air, a large amount of heat is lost, which is not advisable. In order to avoid these losses, heat recuperators began to be used, heating the cold supply air due to the warm air removed from the room. This development belongs to the field of energy saving. The goal is to increase efficiency by reheating the air after the heater with the help of a recuperator for a given temperature difference in the supply air before and after the recuperative heat exchanger. The development is a design of a ventilation unit with air removal and supply air ducts, combined into one housing with a separate, according to the “screw” principle, heat transfer wall, for use in the ventilation system in order to ensure an optimal microclimate in the room. Thus, as a result of using the presented device, the efficiency of the room ventilation unit is increased by reducing the energy consumption for heating the supply air with a heater.

The paper considers the issues of reducing the energy intensity of transportation at opencast mining enterprises, the relevance of which has now increased due to the rise in the cost of fuel and energy resources. It presents the study results concerning the cost structure of the electricity consumed by electric mine transport, which form the basis for the development of technical and operational measures to reduce the energy intensity of the transportation process. It is shown that the work to reduce the electricity consumption for mined rock transportation should be aimed at: Reduction of losses in the power circuits of the traction rolling stock due to the use of more advanced electric rolling stock and regulation of the degree of utilization of the installed traction power; Introduction of new contact materials for electrical circuits with the lowest possible resistivity, including for current collector plates; Introduction of measures to reduce energy consumption for power supply of auxiliary circuits; Development and implementation of rational train control techniques. The introduction of energy-saving measures should include the development and application of effective methods for calculating individual norms of energy consumption and incentives for energy saving of the employees involved in the organization of the transportation process.

The pharmaceutical industry building adopts the centralized air conditioning system with the characteristics of complicated structure, numerous equipments, relatively concentrated, high level of energy consumption, flexibility larger. In this paper, a clean air conditioning system of freeze-dried powder production workshop at a pharmaceutical company in northern China was been as an example. Energy consumption before and after the use of energy saving technology was been compared. The energy consumption and energy efficiency was been argument. It was a very good reference to other pharmaceutical companies.

In order to study the energy consumption feature when cornering for motorized wheels driving vehicles, the resistance force on the driving axle was analyzed. A creative method quasi-neutral steering was proposed for vehicle cornering. A motorized wheels driving vehicle model was established, and the simulation of constant speed cornering was performed when the yaw rate as the parameter to control the front-rear torque distribution and the lateral acceleration as the parameter to control the left-right torque distribution. The results indicate that no wheel slipping is happened when quasi-neutral steering. The torque on the rear outer wheel is more than other wheels, and the torque on the outer wheels is more than inner wheels. The power consumption decreases 1.15% by quasi-neutral steering.

An energy-saving design for hydraulic cylinder reciprocating seal is proposed in this paper to improve using efficiency of seal, and reduce environmental pollution and energy consumption caused by oil leakage. HOQ of QFD is utilized to translate customer requirements into technical design requirements controlled by environmental factors, and the conflicts between technical requirements are obtained. TRIZ theory is used to resolve the conflicts, and gets energy-saving design solutions. The energy consumption compare between before and after improving seal is presented to illustrate the validation of the methods.

Pulverizing system is the main energy-consumption equipment in coal-fired power plant, so it is of great significance to study energy-saving and optimization of pulverizing system. This paper first analyzes the situation and condition of pulverizing system in large-scale coal-fired power plant in China. According to analysis, coal mill and primary-air fan are the two main energy consumption facilities. Then their energy consumption characteristics, including power consumption and unit power consumption are studied. Subsequently, the energy-saving operation proposal for the pulverizing system is proposed.

Variable speed drive (VSD) is used not only for controlling the speed but also for saving the electric energyconsumption. In this research VSD is applied to 3 phase squirrel cage induction motor used for water pumping inthe industry. VSD is needed to be applied to induction motors because these motors are the largest electricconsumed. Measurement and calculation are performed in the two conditions, before and after attaching VSD inthe motor. Electric quantities are obtained by measurement in the input and in the output of VSD. While energyconsumption and consumption cost are obtained by calculation. Finally, calculation of energy saving and costsaving are perfomed by comparing those two conditions. Aplication of VSD in the induction motor has advantagesfor saving electric energy consumption dan making it last longer. The energy saving and cost saving per year result1.003.984,8 kWh and IDR 732.908.904 respectlively. The longer life is caused by reduction of energy consumption.

The report analyzes the results of the implemented measures to improve energy efficiency in Vasil Karagiozov High school of Yambol, Bulgaria. Energy savings are determined by measuring and/or calculating energy consumption with previously adopted baseline levels, implementing a measure or program to improve energy efficiency by providing normalized corrections corresponding to the impact of specific climatic conditions on energy use. A reference heating energy consumption of 38.62 kWh/m2 was determined after the renovation of the building. Comparing the reference energy costs for heating before and after the implementation of the energy saving measures show a real decrease of the energy consumption for heating by 53.44%. Compared to the reference energy consumption for heating before and after the energy saving measures show an actual reduction of energy consumption for heating by 47.86%.

While home energy prices keep rising, homeowners nowadays are searching for the right options to reduce their electricity bills. Besides, the increase in power consumption can contribute to environmental pollution. Therefore, the proper management of energy in the domestic sector is a vital element for creating a sustainable environment and cost reduction. In this study, the most domestic household appliances consumption of energy are modelled and analysed using the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) in order to permit the home energy management system (HEMS) to perform energy utilization estimation and cost analysis. These appliances are the heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), electric water heater (EWH), and lighting, respectively. The developed system can help to analyse the appliances’ energy consumption and cost sceneries during peak and off-peak hours. The modelling of a fuzzy-based domestic appliances controller for HEMS takes the peak and non-peak tariff of Malaysian grid into consideration. The simulation results demonstrate that the developed models are able to manage energy consumption and cost reduction efficiently. By using the proposed FLC, the cost of energy is reduced by 21.75 %, 30.77 %, and 41.96 % for the HVAC, EWH, and dimmable lamps, respectively. In sum, the FLC shows good performance to reduce the cost and power consumption toward efficient HEMS.
