High manganese steel has excellent mechanical properties, which has garnered much attention. Whereas the research on the refining slag used for high Mn steel is very limited. In this study, the metallurgical characteristics of refining slag for high Mn steel were investigated based on thermodynamic calculation with FactSage 6.3 and slag-metal equilibrium reaction in MgO crucible. The calculated liquid zones of T ≤ 1873 K of CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-8%MgO-5%MnO system are located in the middle region of pseudo-ternary CaO-SiO2-Al2O3. For CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-8%MgO-MnO system, the apparent liquid zone at 1873 K enlarges with MnO content in slag increasing, and moves toward the direction of SiO2 and Al2O3 content increasing. For CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO-MnO system, the liquidus zone shrinks with the basicity increasing, and moves toward the direction of Al2O3 content increasing. The measured MnO content in top slag reacted with high Mn steel was much higher than that reacted with conventional steels. In present experiments, the MnO content was around 5% when CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO slag with basicity of 4 was in equilibrium with high Mn steel (Mn = 10, 20%) at 1873 K. The inclusions in master high Mn steel were mainly MnO type. After reaction with top slag, most inclusions transformed to MnO-SiO2 system and MnO-Al2O3-MgO system, in which the MnO content still shared the majority. Thermodynamic calculations show that SiO2 in top slag can be reduced by [Mn] in steel to supply [Si] under present experimental condition, which subsequently reacts with [O] in steel bath to form SiO2.

TWIP steels are high manganese steel (Mn: 17% - 35%) which are used for shaping car bodies. The structure of this kind of steels remains austenite even in room temperature. Due to low SFE (Stacking Fault Energy) twinning of grains is governing reformation mechanism in this kind of steels which strengthen TWIP steel. Regarding heat treatment influences on mechanical properties of TWIP steels, in this paper we discuss twinning phenomenon resulting from this kind of treatment. For this, following casting and hot rolling processes, we anneal the steel at 1100°C and different time cycles and study its microstructure using light microscope. The results showed that with decreasing grain size the number of twin annealing added And four types of annealing twin in the microstructure, in the end they all become one twin and then turn into grain.

The influence of temperature on the structural and mechanical properties of the (0.9 C - 13.95 Mn) steel was investigated in this work. The high-manganese steel has underwent aging treatments at temperatures 700, 750, 800 and 850 °C for different times. The experimental techniques used are hardness test, scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The mechanical behavior and microstructural evolution of the high-manganese steel during aging are almost the same. The aging of the high-manganese steel was characterized by a rapid hardening while the overaging by a slow softening. In aging, the dispersion of fine M7C3 carbides in the austenite led to an increase in hardness. In overaging, the softening was caused by the coarsening of the M7C3 carbides.

Performance of tool has always been a puzzle in the course of high manganese steel drilling. In this paper, improvement of drill tool is been done on drill bit structure and parameters of cutting tip by means of analyzing geometric parameter. By utilizing simulation method correctly, the influence of bit parameter on drilling force is analyzed. Meanwhile, by adopting the way of dividing into groups, comparison experiment between improved and no improved has been done. The comparison analysis of test results is carried out including tool life, wear and drilling force. The conclusion showed that the improved bit has better performance.

High manganese steel is a wear-resisting steel. With the rapidly development of industry, it is very important to improve the wear resistance of high manganese steel. We do some experiments with cold asynchronous rolling technique on austenitic high manganese steel. The results show that hardness and impact abrasion resistance are enhanced greatly with the increase of deformation, and the toughness not decrease to very low.
