Use a ternary binder for production of a high performance concrete with a compressive strengths between 120 and 170 MPa is presented. The water to binder ratio of the concrete is 0.225 and the binder is composed of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), condensed silica fume (CSF), ground limestone (L), fly ash (FA) and metakaoline (MK). The dosage of (M + CSF) is kept at a constant level for a better workability of fresh concrete. Different workability, flexural and compressive strengths were obtained for concretes with a constant cement and a metakaoline dosage, and for a constant dosage (FA + L) but a different ratio FA / L. An optimum composition was found and concretes for other tests were designed using this composition.

This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity characteristics of high performance concrete. These tests were carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties of HPC for up to 7 and 28 days. Mixtures were prepared with water to binder ratio of 0.40. Two mixtures were containing fly ash at 25%, silica fume at 5% cement replacement, respectively. Another mixture was contains blast furnace slag and fly ash at 25%. Three standard 100¥a200 cylinder specimens were prepared. HPC showed improvement in the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength when ordinary Portland cement was replaced with silica fume. Compare with specimens FA25 and BS25FA25, specimen SF5 showed much more modulus of elasticity. It shows that the use of the blast furnace slag of 25% and fly ash of 25% cement replacement has caused a small increase in compressive strength and splitting tensile strength and modulus of elasticity compared to the only use of fly ash of 25% at 28days. The results indicated that the use of blast furnace slag or silica fume provided the good performance compare to fly ash when the mechanical properties of the high performance concretes were taken into account.

Introduction. This study focuses on the use of silica fume partially replacing cement with 0, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 and 30 % constant replacement of fly ash by weight of cement in concrete. Concrete is probably the most extensively used construction material in the world. But the conventional concrete is losing its uses with time and high-performance concrete (HPC) is taking that place. HPC has superior mechanical properties and durability to normal strength concrete. Because of, the microstructure of HPC is more homogeneous than that of normal concrete (NC) due to the physical and chemical contribution of the mineral admixtures as well as it is less porous due to reduced w/c ratio with the addition of a superplasticizer. The inclusion of additives helped in improving the properties of concrete mixes due to the additional reduction in porosity of cement paste and improving the particle packing in the interfacial transition zone (between cement paste and the aggregates).In this experimental investigation the behavior of HPC with silica fume and fly ash with and without quartz powder were studied. The water-binder ratio was kept 0.3 and 20 % quartz flour as partial replacement of fine aggregate for all cases. Materials and methods. Used materials in Vietnam, as follow, Sulfate-resisting Portland cement - PCSR40 (type V) of company Luks Cement (Vietnam) Limited was used in the work. Crushed granite of fraction 9.5…20 mm - as coarse aggregate, Natural sand from Huong river of 0.15…2.5 mm fraction with the fineness modulus of about 3.0 and quartz powder with an average particle size of 5…10 μm were used as fillers; Sika® Viscocrete®-151 is a superplasticizer based on a blend of 3rd generation PCE polymers was used as a plasticizing admixture. The flg ash from Pha Lai thermal power plant and Sika silica Sikacrete® PP1 (particle size < 0.1 μm) was used as a mineral active admixture. The study of strength and technological properties of high-performance concrete was performed by using standard methods. Results. Established by icate that, the workability and strength increase at a certain level and after that, they decline with further increase in the replacement level of silica fume is 12.5 %, on the basis of 30 % FA replacement, the incorporation of 10 % SF showed equivalent or higher mechanical properties and durability compared to the reference samples. Conclusions. HPC consists of mineral admixtures such as silica fume and fly ash use combine quartz powder and superplasticizer helped in improving the strength and durability of concrete mixes due to the additional reduction in porosity of cement paste and an improved interface between it and the aggregate. With 30 % fly ash is optimum dosage used to replacement of cement, incorporation 10 % SF (by weight) and combine of partial replacement of fine aggregate by 20 % quartz powder. On the other hand, a few mathematical equations can be used to derive the durability properties of concrete based on its compressive strength.

High-performance cementitious composites with self-compacting characteristics are gaining due importance in meeting the challenges of the modern world. This experimental study deals with developing high-strength self-compacting cement mortar composites containing a binary blend of silica fume and fly ash. Seven specimens series were prepared with fly ash (FA), ranging from 17.5% to 25%, and silica fume (SF), from 1.25% to 7.5% of the cement mass. The control specimen powder content consists of 80% ordinary portland cement (OPC), 20% FA, and 0% SF; in the remaining six series of specimens, OPC is kept constant, whereas FA is reduced by 1% and SF is increased by 1% subsequently. Rheological behavior, mechanical properties, and microstructural characteristics of the developed high-performance composites were evaluated. The optimum binary blend for achieving the maximum flow spread and flow rate of the cement mortar is reported as 80% FA and 20% SF. For superior mechanical characteristics, optimum powder content was found as 80% OPC, 17.5% FA, and 2.5% SF. Using the proposed binary blend for construction applications will produce high-strength composites and promote sustainable development due to the use of industrial wastes as OPC replacement.
