The Tersilochinae (Ichneumonidae) from New Zealand are revised in part, with three new endemic genera and seventeen new species described: Aotearoazeus gen. nov., A. bullivantus sp. nov., A. coronetus sp. nov., A. probles sp. nov., Barycnellus gen. nov., B. aucklandellus sp. nov., B. conlisus sp. nov., B. cuvierensis sp. nov., B. globosus sp. nov., B. robustus sp. nov., Diaparsis zealandica sp. nov., Gauldiana gen. nov., G. arantia sp. nov., G. aspiringa sp. nov., G. dubia sp. nov., G. kaweka sp. nov., G. minuta sp. nov., G. nigra sp. nov., G. rotoitia sp. nov., and G. triangulata sp. nov. Zealochus postfurcalis is transferred to the genus Gauldiana (comb. nov.). The genus Diaparsis is recorded from New Zealand for the first time. Keys to genera and species of Tersilochinae occurring in New Zealand are provided.

Australasian pericomoids, psychodids resembling northern hemisphere species of Pericoma Walker (tribe Pericomini), are mostly members of the tribe Maruinini, here re-defined. Amongst Maruinini, they are like several neotropical genera named by Enderlein (1937), but their actual relationship to Enderlein's genera, and hence their identity, has been a long-standing taxonomic problem. Consideration of extensive new collections and observations made in the southern hemisphere now shows that they consist of the following: Genus Notiocharis Eaton. Tribe Maruinini: genus Didicrum Enderlein, and five new genera, Eremolobulosa, Rotundopteryx, Alloeodidicrurn, Satchellomyia and Ancyroaspis. Of these, the Australian Eremolobulosa is the possible sister group of the European Lobulosa Szabo, and the New Zealand genera Satchellomyia and Ancyroaspis are possible sister groups. Of Enderlein's neotropical genera, five classified by Quate (1963) as synonyms, or in one case a subgenus, of Pericoma (Didicrum, Desmioza, Synmormia, Syntomolaba and Podolepria) are recognised as full genera. A key to Australasian pericomoid genera is provided.

Two new genera and six new species of spore-feeding Thysanoptera are described from Australia, with Australian records of two further species, one from California and one from New Zealand. In the Tribe Pygothripini, subtribe Pygothripina, Ecacleistothrips glorious gen. et sp. n. is a large and highly polymorphic rainforest thrips: the apterous male has a transverse first abdominal tergite, in contrast to the females that have a reduced pelta as is typical of most Phlaeothripidae. Also in this subtribe, Heptathrips cumberi Mound & Walker from New Zealand is recorded widely around the southern coasts of Australia. A key is provided to the six genera of Pygothripini subtribe Allothripina in which the terminal sensorium of the maxillary palps is unusually large. In this group, four wingless species are considered: Minaeithrips aliceae gen. et sp. n. and M. driesseni sp.n. in which the maxillary stylets are wide apart, Allothrips hamideae sp. n. in which the third antennal segment has a basal flange unlike any other member of this widespread genus, and Priesneriella citricauda Hood that was previously known only from California. In the Pygothripini subtribe Macrothripina, Polytrichothrips geoffri sp. n. is described from rainforest; this genus was known previously from a single species in Sarawak. A further rainforest species, Malesiathrips australis sp.n., is described in the Tribe Idolothripini, subtribe Elaphrothripina; this genus was known previously from three species in the Asian and Pacific regions.

Two species are removed from the genus Poa in Australia on the basis of morphology and DNA and placed in new genera. One is placed in Saxipoa Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs – type: S. saxicola (R.Br.) Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs; and one is placed in Sylvipoa Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs – type: S. queenslandica (C.E.Hubb.) Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs. An infrageneric classification of Poa is proposed that places all 41 indigenous Australian species in P. subg. Poa supersect. Homalopoa sect. Brizoides. Thirty-three of these species, plus six species of New Zealand Poa, are placed in a new P. subsect. Australopoa Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs. Two species are placed in P. subsect. Austrofestuca (Tzvelev) Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs, one in P. subsect. Brizoides (Pilg. ex Potztal) Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs, and one in P. subsect. Neuropoa (Clayton) Soreng, L.J.Gillespie & S.W.L.Jacobs.

Two new genera and four new species of the mite family Neopygmephoridae (Acari: Pygmephoroidea) are described from the alpine zone (1600–1900 m a.s.l.) of the Central Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand: Protobakerdania Khaustov and Minor gen. nov. with the type species Pygmephorus togatus Willmann, 1942, Neobakerdania Khaustov and Minor gen. nov. with the type species Neobakerdania pilosa Khaustov and Minor sp. nov., and the species Protobakerdania diseta Khaustov and Minor sp. nov., Troxodania minuta Khaustov and Minor sp. nov., and Bakerdania alpina Khaustov and Minor sp. nov. Eight species are moved to Protobakerdania Khaustov and Minor gen. nov. from Bakerdania Sasa, 1961: P. aperta (Rack and Kaliszewski, 1985) comb. nov., P. arvorum (Jacot, 1936) comb. nov., P. arvorum nodulosa (Mahunka, 1969b) comb. nov., P. baloghi (Mahunka, 1969b) comb. nov., P. crenata (Mahunka, 1969b) comb. nov., P. pristinus (Mahunka, 1968) comb. nov., P. randae (Sevastianov and Zahida Al Douri, 1989) comb. nov., and P. togatus (Willmann, 1942) comb. nov.
