abstract In this paper a numerical approach to the determination of focal mechanisms based on the observation of the polarization of the S wave at N stations is presented. Least-square methods are developed for the determination of the orientation of the single and double couple sources. The methods allow a statistical evaluation of the data and of the accuracy of the solutions.

The study deals with precise determination of phase transformation temperatures of steel. A series of experimental measurements were carried out by Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Direct Thermal Analysis (TA) to obtain temperatures very close to the equilibrium temperatures. There are presented results from the high temperatures region, above 1000?C, with focus on the solidus temperatures (TS), peritectic transition (TP) and liquidus (TL) of multicomponent steels. The data obtained were verified by statistical evaluation and compared with computational thermodynamic and empirical calculations. The calculations were performed using 15 empirical equations obtained by literature research (10 for TL and 5 for TS), as well as by software InterDendritic Solidification (IDS) and Thermo-Calc (2015b, TCFE8; TC). It was verified that both thermo-analytical methods used are set correctly; the results are reproducible, comparable and close to equilibrium state.

Abstract Twenty-two collaborators participated in the study of a specific method using oxygen flask combustion followed by mercurimetric titration of the resulting iodide. With the exception of 2 collaborators, all obtained acceptable results on m-iodobenzoic acid. Statistical evaluation of the data from all collaborators gave: x̿ = 51.07%, x̿ – theory = –0.10%, s̄ = 0.28, and sm = 0.94. When the results of 2 collaborators are omitted, the corresponding values are: 51.07%, –0.10%, 0.15, and 0.19, respectively. Similar results were obtained on p-nitroiodobenzene. The results from all collaborators gave: x̿ = 50.82%, x̿ – theory = – 0.14%, s̄ = 0.19, and sm = 0.43. When the results of 3 collaborators are omitted, the values are: 50.87%, –0.09%, 0.14, and 0.23, respectively. The method has been adopted as official first action, as an alternative to the Carius method, for the determination of iodine in organic compounds.

The possibilities of using fluorescent research methods and their advantages for visualization and determination of the type of programmed cell death of human tumor cells under the action of flavonoids in experiments in vitro were investigated. The object of the study were the tumor cells of cervical cancer HeLa and A498 kidney carcinoma, the flavonoid containing extract of hedge hyssop (Gratiola officinalis L.) was used for testing in the experiments. The following fluorescent methods were used: the "living and dead" test with double staining - - iodide propidium and acridine orange, the method of double staining with annexin and iodide propidium. The confirmation of autophagy induction was performed using Muse cell analyzer with fluorescent reagents MuseAutophagy LC3-Antibody Based Kit. The application of fluorescent staining methods using double staining with acridine orange and iodide propidium in the "living and dead" test compared to phase microscopy allows to visualize the formation of apoptotic cells and autophagosomes in cells and, therefore, can serve as one of the methods of evaluation screening of the effectiveness of various chemotherapy drugs.

The goal of this paper is to give an overview of the literature of construction techniques of driving cycles. Our motivation for the overview is the future goal of constructing our own driving cycles for various types of vehicles and routes. This activity is part of a larger project focusing on determination of fuel and energy consumption by dynamic simulation of vehicles. Accordingly, the papers dealing with sample route determination, data collection and processing, driving cycle construction procedures, statistical evaluation of data are in our focus.

AbstractDue to low effectiveness or high costs of using chemical agents in the protection of common mushrooms, producers are forced to look for alternative methods of protection. One such method is the use of preparations containing beneficial microorganisms. A statistical evaluation of this mushroom protection method and determination of the number of infected fruiting bodies is presented in this paper

Abstract Twenty collaborators studied a specific method for bromine and chlorine, using oxygen flask combustion followed by mercurimetric titration. The method was previously adopted as official first action for iodine in organic compounds. Eighty-four determinations were performed on p-bromoacetanilide for which the statistical evaluation of the data gave x = 37.30%, x—theory = —0.03%, s = 0.13, and sm = 0.18. With the exception of one collaborator (x—theory = —0.55%), all obtained acceptable accuracy and precision and only his accuracy was not acceptable. Statistical evaluation of the data for 85 determinations on p-chloroacetanilide gave x = 20.86%, x—theory = −0.04%, s = 0.11, and sm = 0.11. All collaborators obtained acceptable accuracy and precision. The official first action method for iodine has been adopted as official first action for bromine and chlorine as an alternative to the Carius method.

Uncertainty, the most important characteristic of an analytical result, has been evaluated using a bottom-up approach during NAA determination of Au in copper concentrate. The sampling constant has been calculated to arrive at a representative sample size of copper concentrate.
