AbstractUranium concentration in the ground water samples from the district of Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, was measured using an LED fluorimeter. All the samples were qualified as potable water from the radiological perspective. Though some samples showed mild chemical toxicity, they are still safe for ingestion. Different risk coefficients were calculated, and they were compared with recommended safety limits specified by various agencies. Software tools such as QGIS 15, GraphPad Prism 8 and Surfer 15 were employed for developing maps and plots.

The drinking water quality was investigated in suspected parts of Perak state, Malaysia, to ensure the continuous supply of clean and safe drinking water for the public health protection. In this regard, a detailed physical and chemical analysis of drinking water samples was carried out in different residential and commercial areas of the state. A number of parameters such as pH, turbidity, conductivity, total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), and heavy metals such as Cu, Zn, Mg, Fe, Cd, Pb, Cr, As, Hg, and Sn were analysed for each water sample collected during winter and summer periods. The obtained values of each parameter were compared with the standard values set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and local standards such as National Drinking Water Quality Standard (NDWQS). The values of each parameter were found to be within the safe limits set by the WHO and NDWQS. Overall, the water from all the locations was found to be safe as drinking water. However, it is also important to investigate other potential water contaminations such as chemicals and microbial and radiological materials for a longer period of time, including human body fluids, in order to assess the overall water quality of Perak state.

В статье анализируется состояние водного фонда в области и обеспеченность жителей региона водой. Рассматриваются основные проблемы неудовлетворительного качества воды в районах области и в г. Орле. Предлагается комплекс мероприятий с целью повышение качества водоснабжения на территории Орловской области путём строительства пяти объектов водоснабжения. The article analyzes the state of the water fund in the region and the provision of water to the residents of the region. The main problems of unsatisfactory water quality in the districts of the region and in the city of Orel are considered. A set of measures is proposed to improve the quality of water supply in the territory of the Orel region through the construction of five water supply facilities.

The article notes that in recent years, water quality has deteriorated sharply. To reduce this process, the introduction of ecosystems in economic entities is required. However, these measures must be subsidized by the state, as the costs are too high. It is necessary to adopt an environmental policy that would contributed to the organization of control over the use of water resources.

The state of Penang has been known to be offering the lowest water tariff rate for its users in Malaysia. The most recent water services reform exercise in Malaysia saw a suggestion made for the abolishment of water subsidies by the federal government and for full cost recovery (FCR) approach to be applied. This means that the operating cost will be transferred to consumers instead. This study reports a descriptive pilot study results that explored Penang user’s responses to various issues pertaining to their perception of water quality, health risk concern and willingness to pay for increased water tariff. The findings show that users were not that happy with water quality only in terms of taste, suspended solids that should not have come out from the tap but sometimes they do, and chlorine content; however, not for its odor or color. As for health risk concern, although majority believe that their tap water adhered to the drinking standard set by World Health Organization (WHO), still many perceived that their tap water is associated with health risk and unsafe for drinking, which saw many opted to buy bottled water for their drinking consumption. As for willingness to pay, majority think that the tariff should not be increased at all, particularly at the current water quality provided to users. Gender and monthly income as part of demographic factor play important roles in enhancing the study’s outcome.  The findings provide preliminary insight to how water users may act towards a possible water tariff increase in the state.
