15 wt% Cr sintered High Chromium Cast Iron (HCCI) with full density was successfully prepared by Super-solidus Liquid Phase Sintering (SPLS) technique, with water atomized 15 wt% Cr high chromium cast iron powder as initial materials. Its densification behavior and microstructure evolution in SPLS process and mechanical properties were investigated systematically. Additionally, the impact abrasive wear resistance under different impact energies were also analyzed and compared with another sintered HCCI with 20 wt% Cr. The results indicated that sintering temperature has a strong influence on the sintered alloy’s density, hardness, impact toughness and bending strength. The M7C3 type (M is Cr and Fe) carbides were obviously coarsened as temperature increased and their rod-shaped branches were fully developed at the same time, thereby resulting in carbide network formation in the matrix. The reasonable sintering temperature range was 1195–1205 °C, and the optimum mechanical properties had the hardness of 63.9 HRC, bending strength of 2112.65 MPa and impact toughness of 7.92 J/cm2. What is more important impact abrasive wear test results indicated 15 wt% Cr sintered HCCI’s wear resistance could be comparable to 20 wt% Cr sintered HCCI under impact energy 1~3 J/cm2, and it is more cost effective.

Because of high wear resistance and low cost, high chromium cast iron liner plate is the most commonly used liner for HZS series concrete mixing station at present. However, in normal operation, the high-chromium cast iron liner produced by conventional casting process is easy to crack at its corners. We found that the cracking reasons of this type of liner plate are mainly the lower cast impact toughness, slightly higher hardness, and there has not gotten a good matching between the hard particles and the matrix organizations. Thus we used the secondary heat treatment to slightly reduce the hardness and increase the impact toughness of cast iron liner plate, which can improve the wear resistance and impact resistance of the liner material to extend the service life of these cast iron liners.

The effects and the mechanisms of namo TiN on the high chromium cast iron are studied, the material has been prepared through infiltration casting and addition of high carbon ferrochrome powder and nano TiN powder. The alloy is formed on the surfaced of guide plate, and the wear resistance of alloy have been studied by means of SEM, XRD micro-analysis and wear-resistant performance. The grain size and the type of carbide in the organization are affected by nano TiN, and the wear resistance of carbon chromium alloy layer is affected by the type of carbide; when the addition of nano TiN is 1% (wt), the grain size is apparently refined, overeutectic primary M7C3 in the hypereutectic is precipitated uniformly in considerable amounts, therefore the wear resistance of alloy can be improved effectively.

To increase the wear resistance of components in slurry pump suffering from serious corrosive abrasion, new super high chromium cast iron (SHCCI) which contains 37wt.% chromium approximately and different carbon content were developed based on the high chromium cast iron with 26wt.% Cr (Cr26). The microstructure of SHCCI was investigated by SEM and XRD. The hardness and impact toughness of SHCCI was tested, and the corrosive wear property of SHCCI was also researched using MCF-30 type erosion abrasion tester under H3PO4 medium condition. The results show that the microstructure of SHCCI is composed of carbide of M7C3+M23C6, martensite and retained austenite. With the increase of carbon content, the hardness of SHCCI first increases and then decreases, the toughness increases, and the corrosive wear property decreases. The relative wear resistance of SHCCI is obviously superior to that of Cr26 cast iron, and the maximal relative wear resistance of SHCCI is three times higher than that of Cr26 cast iron.
